I have an idea for a great course in the Forest Grove area for a nice new course. I remember this picnic, day use area I used to go to outside of FG, in Gales Creek. The area would be great for a disc course. Personally I would love to just have the Hagg Crew make this another of our courses, but we have no funding. honestly I dont want Stumptown any part of Hagg. I like the idea of keeping it "ours". But, with Hornings being top notch, and Stub Stewart going in, I think this would add to the west Wa county disc golf scene. So, whoever you have on Stumptown who is the course development guys, please have them contact me. I would love this to be another Hagg crew thing, but I am gonna leave it up to Stumptown cause I think it will be a hard sell.

Troy, try not to shut out Stumptown man. Hagg could be great if it had the help and resources needed to get it there. Look at Milo for example. Stumptown has helped a TON, and yet its still the "Portland Roc's" baby.

Not hatin on Stumptown. The club does many great things. But, at this point we dont want it involved with Hagg. Maybe someday we will look at that option.

Could you elaborate? I don't see what the problem is with bringing in a large club that has money and resources to make your course better.

Troy, don't expect Stumptown to get a hold of YOU. The right thing to do is get a hold of Stumptown. Present them with where/who/what/why, give them as much information as you can. That will help make things a lot easier. If I waited for Stumptown or any club to get a hold of me when I see a piece of land that I think would make a good DG course nothing would ever happen.
I learned this the hard way! I had a great idea for how to save our economy and waited for Washington to contact me. Now look where we are at!:wink2:

Good thinking. Keep Hagg in the same crappy condition it's been for the last few years. You definitely won't have to concern yourself with other people wanting to play there.

This is exactly why I dont want Stumptown involved with Hagg for now. I give them an idea for a future course and I get people wanting us to give control over Hagg to stumptown while we work on the other course, and assholes like Sam saying after Hagg, Stumptown can come in and fix what we mess up. No matter what any of you think, I dont hate Stumptown at all. I do appreciate all that the club is doing for the NW area. Dont hate on the Hagg crew. most of what I post is my own opinion. We as a group do take pride in Hagg and all that goes on there. We know it could use lots of work and money to make it the top notch course that it could be.
I could go on and on, but so many of you hate me already, Im sure I am gonna hear enough shit about this post, so go ahead, lay it on me.

... if you're referring to the rippling waters area right there outside of forest grove and before gales creek, i'm not sure that a disc golf course would be the best fit for that particular habitat/environment... it's a beautiful little area, for sure, but where would people park? and the creek bed/bank is protected habitat... which is pretty much all that area is... i would love another golf course out here in my neck of the woods, but rippling waters probably could not sustain that kind of use...
good luck, tho... altho i think you're making a mistake copping such an attitude towards stumptown... use your resources, dude, and you'll get a lot more accomplished... instead of acting like a xenophobe and alienating your best opportunity for help getting a course done quickly... oh, right, and irritating and turning off other folk who otherwise might be willing to help, too (yes, i'm talking about myself... i don't like your tone, sir!)

I am talking about what was at least once known as Balm Grove picnic area. could make for a nice long 9 hole course.
Like I have said a couple times already. I dont hate Stumptown at all. There are just those certain members who speak out more than they should have and ruin the image of the club for me. Makes me want no involvement with the club at all. you can blame those people for my thoughts on the club.

Troy,
I am glad you feel that Hagg is yours but for a reality check it is the counties to do with as they see fit. They could tomorrow rip out the course and designate the area a wildlife refuge. It will save you a lot of agaony to not stake claims on things that you do not own. I know Jim has an ankling to see Hagg become a better course with facilities and increased playability and flow. We have talked before many times and even at a Stumptown work party at Stub Stewart. That is why if anyone from Stumptown was to work on improving Hagg it would be with the assistance and support of Jim and Washington County.
Now the only question you have to ask yourself is what do you want from Hagg and are you willing to support it even if you do not get what you want?

Balm Grove is a freaking sweet idea!!!
however... it is now a private residence... but i wonder what they're doing with the property???
... but here's a problem for me troy, stumptown really are the folks to help get a new course in the ground and make the connections and all that... in this world we certainly do not all have to be friends, but we should be able to treat everyone with respect (even if you feel you are not getting it in return, you are only in charge of your own actions and they should be good and kind and productive and worthwhile) ... i'm sure that i don't get along with everybody in stumptown either, but i'm still going to be a member of the club and a part of what they do... and one of the things that they do really well is get us new golf courses... don't bite yourself in the ass on this one dude, you have a really good idea and simply for my sake, i'd hate to see a grudge keep it from happening to it's full potential... i spent so much of my childhood just less than a mile up the creek from balm grove it would be really groovy to see a course put in there...
... let's see what we can do to make this happen...

...i went on a little reconnasaince mission on my way home from work last night thru gales crick to check out the ol' balm grove area...
... the old park area is definitely not being used and seems like it could make a very pretty little 9 hole golf course, bit on the narrow side, but some very cool trees and quite a bit of property right on the banks of a beautiful section of gales creek...
... but... it's not only a private residence, it's a sketchy lookin' private residence... not sure what the next step would be here... i certainly ain't knockin' on that door to ask if they'd be interested in having a golf course installed... i did have the idea about stopping in at the gales creek tavern for a beer and to ask the locals what they knew about the place... but... frankly, gales creek tavern is sketchy, too... ideas?

Hears won four ewe Em, :biggrin2:
Have a Stumptown meeting at the tavern.
Set up the tables in a circle (knight's of the round table), drink good ale and promote disc golf together.
Invite the property owners, Troy and the Hagg crew.
If I were you I'd ask Sam to invite the property peeps, as he's pretty good at knocking on sketchy doors.
That's if he can walk after slipping and falling at the OLE gigs.

Yes, I obviously said before I am not a big fan of Stumptown, but am always willing to help out if I can. Don't know where you went to school Bruce, but my sentence was not poor use of the English language. The use of the commas and the word "and" and the word "but" where they were used in the sentence made perfect sense if you know how to read.
Sam
October 28th, 2010, 08:01 PM
Troy... FFS. At the very least, it was a run-on sentence. Bruce knows how to read and was not the only person who had an issue with that one sentence.
That said... I wish I had someone who would remind me when I need it so I will go out on a limb and give you such a courtesy (I think):
You got to know when to hold 'em - when to fold 'em.
And yes... that's some Kenny Mothertrucking Rogers right there. TIFWIW.

it may have been a bit of a run on sentence, but clearly understandable if read correctly, using the commas as a pause, like it supposed to be used.

Aw c'mon Scott, at least at admit it was ambiguous:
"I did attend a workparty at Stub Stewart, and i believe it was a Depot thing, but I did attend 2 work parties at Trojan when it went in"
For clarity's sake, the first comma should be a semi-colon or a dot-dot-dot -- but it was an honest mistake.
