View Full Version : OR Team DG: 2010-11 TDG Initial Rosters & Ratings
Jeff Hemmerling
October 20th, 2010, 05:38 PM
Here are the rosters and starting ratings that Jordan and I
used to determine team rankings. Please post here if there
are any errors, including ratings and the spelling of names.
Thanks!
The R.I.P. Trozzle team is cobbled together with players
looking for a team. We chose Josh Dearing as the captain
since he's the only player Jordan has contact info for.
The "Initial Rating" entries are color coded:
black - Current PDGA rating
green - TDG 09/10 final rating
"NA" - Prelims rounds used
pink - No PDGA, no TDG 09/10, no prelim round. Estimated
rating, which we purposefully inflated since there was
no history for this player. This rating will be used
for handicapping the first match but will not count
towards their overall season rating.
The ratings in the "Week 1" column are the starting ratings
that will be used this weekend. This is an average of the
initial rating and all prelim rounds.

Actually his PDGA rating was determined solely from 3 rounds at the Bad Monkey Open. He tore that shit up and started with an amazing first rating...

Assuming they averaged the PDGA rating and the Prelim rating, one could assume:
If Stephen Sines played only one Prelim round:
991-935=56
56x2=112
991-112=879
So he shot an 879 rated round at Prelims. What's up with that (*cough* bagging)?
Gawain must have shot:
931-913=18
18x2=36
931+36=967
A 967 rated round (a 57).
So Sines really shot 112 points worse than his own PDGA rating? 88 points worse than Gawain?
I thought that if Prelim ratings were lower than PDGA ratings, that the prelim ratings would be tossed out. At the least, there could be some type of cutoff. Even if we said a round outside the range of 90 to 110% of PDGA rating will not count, that would make Stephen's range: 892 to 1090, which would have caused his 879 to be tossed out.
For example. most handicap leagues have a formula which tosses scores out of the handicap calculation if they are inordinately high for that player's skill level.

Sounds like somebody is butt hurt. Oh well. use my name without asking me first. no biggie to me. I hope everyone has fun with TDG this year. I will be back next year.

That's funny, because I couldn't find a PDGA rating for you. Is your name spelled wrong? What is your PDGA number? If I knew any of that information then I would have averaged your round rating with your PDGA rating...:whistler:
Of course, the PDGA website went down about 3 times over the course of the night while we were working on the ratings, so maybe that was the problem...:chinscratch:

Hey Jeff,
You have someone named Darren McCoy listed on the trozzle team, and there is no one with that name playing TDG this season. There IS however a Darin McCoy that WAS going to be on my team(grip lok) until he found out that he had to have surgery. I replaced him BEFORE the season started with Chad Carter on his request, but he IS and always WILL be a member of team Grip Lok. He came out and threw a round at the pre-lims, and we may bring him in late this season as an alternet. Please remove the similar name you have listed from the trozzle roster.

Hell, I PLAYED a round with Darin and STILL got the story wrong! I thought that he had already HAD surgery and hadn't played dg in 6 months, and then he came out and played solid dg and was interested in playing OTDG this year, but you had already replaced him on your roster. I still think that we have all 7 players for the R.I.P. Trozzle team.

There were many Quaffers consumed that Saturday, and I think no one but Darin knows when he will be able to play TDG. He did already have his surgery, but that is unimportant compared to the fact that he continues to kick my ass. No matter the reason, he decided to start this season as our alternate.
I just assumed it was Hemmerling's fault, because this is his thread, and you spelled Darin's name correctly in your thread for the preliminaries at Pier. I am very sorry if I have troubled you sir, next round of quaffers is on me.

that we need to know before we play Sorosis is what is the SSA of the course. Lots of people don't understand how I come up with this for each park that we play. For most courses we use the SSA generated by the rounds that we shot in the past. So for Sorosis in 07-8 it was 49.38, in 08-9 it played 48.5 the first round and 50.19 the last round, 09-10 it played 50.46 & 50.44 Saturday and 49.28 & 49.73 on Sunday. Put them all in the big number blender and we get an SSA for Sorosis of 49.71.
When you check that against the SSA chart it comes out as 11 rating points per stroke for the handicap this weekend!
