I haven't had his chili. His shrimp on the barbie, however.... that I have had. If his chili is anywhere close to this shrimp, we might as well just call it a chili cook out because no one will top that hypothetical yummy goodness!

Having played at Rocklin, CA's Ice Bowl twice, I have seen what it takes to place in the top 2 in the nation two years running... want some help to get in the top 5? I was planning on hosting an Ice Bowl if no one did it... but this looks good, lets team up and kick some records down... or at least just have fun

I just have to ask, why Lunchtime?

because lunchtime is the best course in the world!!! Hello???

no not really... but it is our home course.
its in the same neighborhood as our charity and the local businesses who support them. and us. "multnomah village".
its also a central location close to almost everyone.
it's private property!...beer and what not.
AND the church is loosely affiliated with our charity "Neighborhood House".

so, i invison like a whole neighborhood event involving local businesses, the church, the course, the sponsors, neighborhood house, and us... the discgolfers!

maybe even a Chanel 8 news crew or something.

whata ya think j-man

are there exactly 70 players playing?
with 18 holes, 4 on each hole, you can have 72 people.

Im hoping to get 2 other members of the University of Oregon Disc Golf Team to play in this tournament because we are using scores from this event to determine our team for a upcoming collegiate event.

or maybe they can start the wait list?

Thanks,
Logan

Yes... we can push this to 90 players if we add 6 holes (as has been done in previous Ice Bowls). Baskets can be found pretty easily in the area.

I have a map though the man to talk to about all of this would be Treelove, of course.

at this point it's not the holes, its the player packs. i suppose we could offer a $10 option with no player pack, and add holes, lengthen round times, shorten lunch, and start earlier... but:puke:

Thanks but I just talked to them and now they are unsure about playing so I don't want to sign them up and have them not show.
The UO club is playing at pier park on Sunday the 23rd and I think a few members were planning on coming up for the whole weekend and playing the ice bowl. So it would be a good idea to do that $10 idea with no player pack. I have access to 9 discatcher pro baskets, but limited space of bringing them up. I could probaly bring 3 or 4 of them up if needed, but I also know that there are many people in portland who would bring a full metal one.

Just some ideas...I know you guys have had this all planned out for awhile now and I don't want to mess with any plans, but let me know if you need any baskets or anything

I think that it is very cool that some of our local pros want to support the local charity so much that they would choose to play in an Am-only tournament.

Shane "the chain" Johnson is a pro player who cashed at a B tier PDGA event this past year - second place to only Big Mike if I remember correctly. Gwillim has played pro for years and - to my knowledge - hasn't played at the Am level event in a long time. Dude throws farther than most pros... and he just stands there.

How about I loan them my car and they can drive up to Trojan and play in an event that includes Pro players? Unless... they're afraid of playing against their peers... :whistler: Or maybe I'll go play the OLE and practice for next week's Team Disc Golf.

I don't do it much, but this one interested me so I searched for some facts about these fellers PDGA records and, it said their ratings were both 951 and both had won about a buck ninety.
I could be wrong but it seems their rating would allow them to play advanced.
Now I didn't check your stats but are you not close to nine fitty yourself?
The way you've been playing it looks like a good match-up to me.
Remember too that all IBer's who play and/or give to IB's are winners in the end.

Huh... I always thought that once you took cash you were considered a pro and couldn't (or in cases of small, local non-sanctioned tournaments, shouldn't) play Am.

Don't get me wrong... I like both of these gentlemen just fine and enjoy playing with them when I get the opportunity. I understand the desire to play in the closest tournament to town that day, even.

Seriously... sandbagging only perpetuates more sandbagging. At least I moved "up" a division from Adv. Masters to Advanced. I am now reconsidering why I should have done that.

Wow. I can't even believe you brought this up Sam. How many tourneys do we have to look back at where you would have cashed in Pro Masters if you had stepped up? I know it is more than one. You continue to finish at or near the front of the pack in every MM1 event you play in, and you have the gall to bitch about someone else is sandbagging? Yeah... this qualifies as a new low. Hell, this is so bad I have to wonder if your just trying to troll everyone.

I've run a ton of non sanctioned gigs.
The rules we play by parallel the PDGA rules for the most part.
Are you saying because it's not sanctioned you should set aside your morals and integrity and play where you want?
As a 22 year Ice Bowl TD, it seems to me that some of you are missing the point that Rick Rothstein has tried to instill upon IB gigs. Since 1997, the majority of IB gigs have put the emphasis on FUN and raising cash and food for the needy.
Here's one we want to try.
Blindfold Doubles
Also, in regards to Sam's post, I resisted saying this earlier because I was trying to be nice. :rolleyes2:
After reading Jeff's post I figured that I would go ahead and say it......
Sam, it's a good thing you have all that sand as it will help soak up all those tears.
One more thing, for now, the official IB slogan is 'No Wimps, No Whiners'.
We make sure that all participants at our gigs know who the biggest whiners are.

Sam,

You are spinning the truth... Fox News style. Sandbagging is not meaningless, you've just failed to point out any blatant sandbaggers other than yourself. Honestly, you obviously have the right to play wherever you want. The only problem I had with the whole issue was you calling someone else out for something you're guilty of.

Here are some interesting stats to peruse:

Sam Gibson:
# of MM1 Events: 13
5 - 1st place
0 - 2nd place
3 - 3rd place
2 - 4th place

Ryan Gwillim
# of MPO Events: 13
0 - 1st place
0 - 2nd place
0 - 3rd place
1 - 4th place

Shane Johnson
# of MPO Events: 9
0 - 1st place
0 - 2nd place
1 - 3rd place
0 - 4th place

Based solely on ratings, either of these guys could have remained in MA1. The difference is these guys stepped up to face a more difficult challenge, whereas you chose not to.

Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I have played with both Gwillim and Shane and know that they are both pro players - as they know since that is where they sign up for PDGA tournaments. As I said, this started out as a joke as I still think I will take both down (or Shane, anyway)... but the response to me doing what has been "done" to me for so long was too rich to not comment on.

How many years did you play advanced again, Sean? 6? 7?

However, I did play pro without accepting cash for another year after that. Which I don't consider sandbagging. When I went to AM worlds and didn't win, that was an attempt to sandbag.

You're ready for open masters. If you want to maintain AM status, take scrip.

Actually, I think Sam should have stayed advanced instead of moving DOWN into advanced masters. IMO a player should play advanced until you're ready for pro and then move UP regardless of your age.
I think Sam is insulting his own skill level whenever he plays in the crusty division.
That was by no means a crusty slam!
Hows that new one go?
Oh yeah........ I'm just sayin'

we do... we are having fun with this, no one is getting their feelings hurt for real... unless sam is crying behind his screen over there? ;) We bag Sam because he bags other people and we know he played advanced before moving over to adv masters when we predicted him moving to open masters and watched unholy dominations that the world has never seen before in the past year in adv masters by Sam onto the rest of the adv masters field... :puke: it's all fun talk so no one's getting hurt, cept for those who have been unholy dominated by sam... :bricks:

And BTW... The mere posting of "who.fucking.cares" actually shows a level of annoyance that seems to indicate you DO care. :)

Hell of an event out there today!!! Thanks for all your time and effort Dan. It was great to see the youth division. Hopefully that is a trend that will continue. After all the youths are the future of our sport.

Thanks again!

David

Woke up at 6AM with the "hugest" bomb tickin to go off that I've had in a while, which means someone's chili was up to par, however, I sampled 3 different ones so can't say which one it was heh... Zayne had fun, he's beggin me to go play more today right now with the player pack disc and the disc he won in the ring of fire. Will put up a short video of the tournament within a week...

My first round was awesome and if it wouldn't have been for me throwing a 7 on hole one at lunchtime in round 2 I woulda been fighting for 1st!

Chilli was good. I coulda won. The one that did win though wasn't my favorite.

The beer was FANTASTIC! Well done. Go Ice Bowl Pale Ale!
