I am excited for the 2011 Ice Bowl season coming up but man, I hate that Ice Bowl logo. Just looks rediculous. It's too non-disc golf specific. just my 2 cents.

This is not the disc art!

That's good to know. Did they include the disc art in the mass e-mail the Ice Bowl peeps sent out recently? If they did I must have missed it and will look again. Thanks Bob.

How much is it to sponser a hole?

Hole sponsorship is available for $25 cash (more if you want to donate more) or $100 in schwag or gift certificate.

I'm working on a sponsor form and will be done soon.

That's what I was refering to above. I knew that what you posted was just a portion of the entire pic. I hate the design, I just think the Disc Golf World people could have done a better job of focusing more on disc golf and less on girls. Perhaps they are trying to target more women players, not sure, but I think they did a poor job. I know you didn't come up with the design Bob so please don't take offense. This design makes me question whether or not I want to run an "Ice Bowl" this year or run a charity event without that name and come up with a different design. I'll see what my options are. Again, just my 2 cents.

Fair enough. I just meant toward dg in general, not just this RPG girl on this disc. Looks like someone from a scifi movie. Funny comment btw.

Scott, you are totally within your rights to not run an Ice Bowl this year if you don't like the artwork.

The Ice Bowl is an event designed to help our local communities. Maybe someone else in your area will run the tournament. :trophy:

I've got some cheese to go with that whine. :biggrin2:

Sounds to me like Scott is willing and has ran charity events before and is planning on running yet another one. In this case he may not call it an"ICE" bowl but it will do the same thing. I give him props for doing so especially if it makes his event more desirable to go to and hence makes more money for charity which is really what its all about, not wine and cheese or wimps or whiners.

My theory on what went down, regarding the artwork.

Disc Golf World: Hey, you're a pretty good artist, right? Wanna do some artwork for our upcoming tournament?

Artist: Sure, why not!

DGW: It's called "The Ice Bowl," and it's a wintertime tournament.

A: Cool, I've got some ideas....

--time passes--

A: Here you go!

DGW: Ummm, it's an ice queen and an polar bear? With armor?

A: It's a panserbjorne. You know, from "The Golden Compass."

DGW: Ah.

A: You don't like it?

DGW: Well, it doesn't have very much to do with disc golf....

A: Oh. Well, I can add a basket in the background. You could always photoshop a disc in the foreground if you want.

DGW: Whatever. We've got to get this artwork out....

:D

In any case, nobody says that you have to do an Ice Bowl through DGW. Any charity tournament in the wintertime qualifies as an "Ice Bowl" in my opinion.

Indeed, the logo is just a logo - no one has to use it or buy discs. Ice Bowl HQ does some really cool stuff to make these charity events happen - the artwork over the years is just one of thier strong points :) I think it has been the same artist for a while no?

I've always just gone with ordering custom stamps from Innova or Discraft for Ice Bowl events and have still partnered with IBHQ to help the cause.

No matter what the custom stamp is, I'm sure the Highbridge Ice Bowl will be a blast and if it raises $$$ for charity, you really can't get much better than that!

Could be...in the few Ice Bowls I've been part of, I haven't gotten one of the "official" discs.

I'm a little loopy after a crazy week at work, with a flaky overtime crust and was just having fun with the discussion at hand. No slight intended to the Ice Bowl, the artist, or the Spokane crew.

So I was sitting with my friend Oliver S, when he read this post out loud It brought a tear to my old near sighted eyes. yada! yada! yada! Then, with almost Glenn Beck like pride I realized that my legacy is complete and all the rest is just gravy covering up a pile of ...

The only TWO Ice Bowl requirements are:
It has to fall between the middle of Jan to the end of Feb
It has to benefit a local charity throught either food or cash donations

Again, seconded. We play to support the charaties and the local clubs. I appreciate anyone who runs one.

As we get closer to the Ice Bowl date I'd like to see if there are any golfers out there that would help snow blow the course at Highbridge. I have an old Sears two stage blower but would like to get at least two more to help.

I would like to get set up for snow blowing on Feb. 3 & 4, 2011.

So if you have a snow blower and would like to help clear the course, post so on this thread or send me a PM or call me at 991-1807.

Thanks, Bob :seeya:

Due to the crazy weather we are having we may not need snow blowers for clearing the course for Ice Bowl. Let's just keep them on stand-by for now.

Bob,

Thank you so much for all your hard work to make this event happen. I know you were taking some grief about the delayed start time and the amount of time people waited to tee off.

If I know one thing about you it's that you take every one of these tournaments as a learning experience and you improve your process each time.

Your contribution the the club and to the disc golf community is invaluable.

I really appreciate everything you do and congratulate you and those who helped on a fine event.

Sorry I couldn't stick around for the post competition festivities.

Les
