Here is a general idea of the dates we are looking at. These are off-set by the Southern Oregon Winter Series to allow a full schedule.:trophy: We are going to have some inevitable conflicts with other winter series in the state. It seems there simply aren't enough weekends in the year for all the Disc Golf we want to play in Oregon.......:jumpspin:

ALL OF THESE DATES ARE SET. LOCATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS WE GATHER ALL THE PERMITS:

Nov 13th ……….@ Alton Baker Park

Nov 27th……….@ Richardson County Park

Dec 11th………..@Baker Bay County Park

Jan 1st………….@ Orchard Point County Park

Jan 15th………. @ Cottage Grove DGC

Feb 5th ……….@ Perkins Peninsula County Park

Feb 19th ………@ Westmoreland 18 Hole Course (Ice Bowl Food Drive?)

Mar 5th……….@ Dexter State Park DGC

Mar 19th.........@ Mystery Location

Please get in touch with me if you would like to volunteer with the series. We always need baskets and help with course prep.

The intention of this series is to support the Eugene Disc Golf Club and our efforts of turning the 2011 Eugene Celebration into the NW's next premier A-Tier.

Sponsorship packages are available for the ENTIRE SERIES!!!:chug::bowing:

$50 Cash or $100/Merchandise will get you a permanent tee sign for all 9 events. Please contact me for more information. Cheers,

Hello everyone,
I'm just going over logistics for the Series and would love some input from you all. My new focus is the entry fees as they relate to permit fees etc for these events....

We have discussed all the permits and other fees associated with the Series and agree that $3 per player should cover everything. In time we may build a surplus fund for expenses and other costs. Any cash that is left over in this fund will be rolled over for a Series payout.... Along with any sponsorships gathered (hint hint ;))

$2 Ace-pot ($1 per round) along with the $3 Series fee will bring the total deduction from each entry fee to $5 total.

With this in mind we were thinking the entry fees should be:

-$30 Open Pro
-$25 Advanced and AM

I am also going to be offering a $5 optional Player's Pack of a "Water-Shed Utility Pouch" to keep your essentials dry. The Player's Pack along with the $5 Ace-pot/Fee would bring it to $10 total from the entry fee. Pros would then in essence be playing for $20 each and the AMS $15.

Does that make sense to everyone? I thought I would make the Player's Packs an option to avoid confusion over cash flow etc. If you don't want it, then opt out. It's that simple :)

Do these entry fees seem to high? Low? Thoughts on the Player's Packs? Please give us some input on how you would like to spend your Disc Golf allowance :) Cheers,

SOWS entry fees are 30 dollars normally with only a 1/3 payout. Play good get rewarded.

Idk about players packs, is your idea to charge everyone 30 reguardless and if they want a players pack only 20 of their payout goes into the prize pool and if they dont 25 bucks goes in, that doesnt seem right, maybe i misunderstood. Or would they just be charged 25 instead of 30 if they dont want one, and 20 dollars out of everyone entry goes into payout?

purediscgolf

That was my first impression too. I just thought I would get your opinions. It would seem that the players who don't get a player's pack and thus pay $25 and not $20 are getting "ripped off" somehow huh.....

We could offer the Player's Packs as an additional cost to the entry fees. These Utility Pouches are very handy as scorecard pouches in the rain......That was my first idea, how to keep the scorecards dry......Also, they are usually $10 retail and I am offering them at a special rate of $5. Each bag takes me about 20-30 minutes to put together and a cost of about $2 in materials.

This is a relatively new endeavor of mine on the sewing machine. I thought it would make sense to hand-make items that help player's on the course...... I was tired of digging through my bag for my wallet, phone and keys etc. So, I started making these pouches to keep my important belongings secure, dry, and accessible. I think everyone could use one of these pouches to organize our chaotic bags.

I think ace pots should be optional and most people probably wouldn't get a players pack. $30 is a considerable raise in entry fee from the $20 of OLE and Ninkasi series in the past, but given the turnouts for the Ninkasi series last year it seems like a fee hike is do-able. It's nice to have the bigger payout $, but it's also nice to play a lower cost, more casual winter one-day tournament.

That being said, I personally would still play at $30, and I always buy into the ace pot. And I would definitely buy a Series logo disc or shirt or both, if available but I would not go for the players pack.

purediscgolf
October 19th, 2010, 02:35 PM
We could go back a little bit and make the entry fees $25 Pro and $20 AM. It all depends on how much people want in the payout. I personally don't maind paying $30 to play a Pro event. Granted I may not play too many as I will be filming and producing a DVD from the Series....

Ace-Pot and a Series Fee will come out of the entries no matter what. A Series Fee is the only feasible way of making this a reality. As far as the Ace-pot goes my plan is to cap it at $100 and make any surplus gained from there a Eugene Celebration 2011 sponsorship. When the Ace is hit for $100 the Ace-Pot will go back to $0 and we start all over.....Make sense?

Turning the Celebration into a premier regional event is one of my main goals for this Series. It's unfortunate that we can't get the major sponsors that are needed to run large scale events. We have to rely on each-other to make our dreams a reality.......

Just my 0.02 cents worth but I think $25/$ is more reasonably and may encourage more players to test the waters in stronger divisions.

Hayduke
October 19th, 2010, 08:27 PM
I agree with Jester. 20 ams, 25 pro seems more reasonable. The whole idea of winter series to me is to get out and play in a tournament setting, not so much about how much you win. I also think the lower you make the fees the more people will turn up at these things which, in my opinion, is more to the point.
I like the idea of player's packs made optional. After all, how many of those dri-bags would you want?
Thanks Andrew for putting this on, can't wait.

$30 sounds good to me. I'm excited to play Alton Baker again. As for fees, you got to pay for permits and other things some how. I think a lot of golfers don't realize what it takes to run a event. Someone has to do a lot of work so we can show up and play.

I like the idea of higher entry fees and smaller numbers. I’m not a big fan of overcrowded tournaments. Whatever you decide to do with fees and such just be up front and people will decide for themselves.

Instead of players packs maybe you can have the bags for sale for $5 to participants.

Andrew,
Yes, $30 for pro.
We take $1 from all divisions for the operating fund.
We averaged around 90 per gig, and it was more than enough to pay for the 09/10 SOWS fees/permits.
At the end of SOWS XIV we rolled close to $500 of Operating fund $ back into the final payouts after we paid bills and gave some donations.
We also charge less for Pro Master than Pro, as we have for over 10 years now.
My personal opinion of your am fee is that it is too much.
Also, we never charge an Amateur and an Advanced player the same fee.

And, for JUB JUB... the Am's will not be playing for cash. :biggrin2:

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all your input on the Series. I am excited to be putting together some very fun and challenging courses for you this winter.:shooting:

Tyler Christensen and I went out and played a round at Alton Baker with a portable basket on Friday. It felt great to be out there and get some rips in. The course could definitely use some sprucing up so please stay tuned for information on a work party. :bricks:

The Entry Fees are going to be $25 Pro and $20 AM/ADV. Out of which we will be taking $5 ($3 Series Fees and $2 Ace-Pot). Series Fees will go to cover all operating costs associated with the Series. Any remaining funds will roll over for the Series Finals payout.:yay:

The Ace-Pot is going to be $1 per round with SEPARATE payouts on a round to round basis....This means that if we have 50 people at an event there will be $50 per round in the Ace-Pot. Ace-Pots not hit in the morning will roll over into the afternoon.....make sense? :chinscratch: (see scenario below)

We are going to be capping the Ace-Pot that may build up at $100. Each round is separate until it's completed and then rolled over to the next until it reaches $100..Ace-Pots gathered until the $100 Ace is hit will be put into the 2011 Eugene Celebration Sponsorship. Please let me know if that confuses anyone....I figure $100 is still an awesome winter ace to take home while supporting Oregon's longest running PDGA event.

Players packs for the Willamette Valley Winter Series will be an option for players at the wholesale cost of $5. I'm committed to putting $1 from each Players Pack sold back into the 2011 Eugene Celebration. You can pick from a Water-Resistant Utility Pouch or a Rasta-FAR-Dry Bag, sticker and a mini.:biggrin2:

Put it on your calendar......Eugene Celebration, Sept 2011, PDGA A-Tier...... It's going to be huge!!!

ps. Here is an Ace-Pot "$100 Capping" scenario for you........We have 60 players show up at Alton Baker.....$60 per round in the Ace-Pot.........No Aces in the morning........$60 rolls over into the $60 waiting for the afternoon rounds' Ace-Pot........Ace-Pot is then Capped at $100 and the remaining $20 is rolled into the Eugene Celebration Sponsorship.....:trophy:

Ok everybody ---- tomorrow is the first day of the Williamette Valley Winter Series at Alton Baker Park in Eugene.

Andrew has worked really hard to make the Alton Baker course fantastic and you definitely don't want to miss it. You would also be showing the city of Eugene that we need to make Alton Baker a permanent fixture.

Check in is at 8:00 AM and the player's meeting is at 9:00 AM. If you have a basket, please bring it at 7:30 so we can make sure we have plenty to set up.

We have a great schedule lined up using some Lane County parks we haven't used for a long time. These are courses that a lot of you have never played. It would be well worth the drive. :)

Please come and support the Series, attend enough to be in the running for Series champ, and also help us show the City and the County that we need permanent courses.

Any questions?

Thanks and I hope to see you there!!!!!

I thought about that for Orchard Point and opted to make it on New Years Day. It was something I wanted to do for Historic purposes. For those of you who haven't been playing so long we had something called the "Hangover Toss" at Timber Park every year on New Year's Day. Time to bring some of those traditions to the Willamette Valley.

Thanks for all the support this week at the Player's Cup. See you all at Richardson this Saturday!!

Players will need to make 5 out of the 9 events to qualify for the Series Payout. During each event we are gathering a $3 Series Fee to cover all the costs associated with the Series. We use this balance for Maps, Copies, Scorecards, Permits, and other costs. Currently there is $164 remaining in the fund. The balance remaining in this account at the end of the Series will be used for a 40% payout from the Series Points. Also, any surplus sponsorships that are acquired throughout the Series will be used for a Finals Payout.

The Top 5 point totals will be used to crown a Series Champion. Player's receive 100 points for a win, 99 for second, 98 for third and so on. Using this simple points systems allows for equal weight of events with varying turnouts.

I am working on the Richardson results right now and they will be posted on this forum, as well as the Eugene Disc Golf Club Facebook Page, very soon. Please let me know if you would like the results posted in any other forums or websites. Thanks.

For three years we all wanted to get back into the Lane Co. Parks for some good old one-day winter golf tournaments. So a bunch of people did a bunch of work to make that happen.

So where is everybody? A little rain and everybody stays home? EDGC members -you still golfing? I never thought we'd get back into Baker Bay and have about 25 people show up. You missed out peeps! :shooting:

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for coming out to Baker Bay and making for an awesome tournament. It was by far the smoothest event I've ever been a part of. Thanks to Brad McDougall and Dan Rodriguez for helping with the course layout, Gene Fackler for helping out in every which way, everyone who brought and carried out baskets, and of course my girlfriend Nely for being super organized at tournament central. (Have you ever heard of a TD being asked to 'please go warmup' because everything was done nearly an hour ahead of Tee-Off? I'm usually lucky to get a few drives in and some putts before the 2 min warning) :dancing:

Baker Bay is an awesome park and I feel has real potential as a seasonal Disc Golf Course. We have been talking about it for a long time.... What if the Disc Golf community adopted some local parks and campgrounds during their off-season? Keeping the gates open and parking fees rolling in during the winter months.... People may listen to any proposal for possible revenue creating sources during this recession. I for one would have no issue with buying $3 parking passes or a Seasonal Pass to play.:yay:

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and make sure to keep an eye out for the Orchard Point work party. We're going to head out shortly after Christmas and get the layout set for the New Year's Toss. :biggrin2:

Ninkasi should be on board by then so be sure to bring those baskets. Baskets=Beer:wink2::cheers::chug:

Yeah really fun tricky course in sunny weather. I had my best improvement from round to round ever. Second round lots of obs lead a twelve over... Next round 8 under was an improvement of 20 strokes!

I moved a bunch of baskets at CG last weekend... If you want me to change anything for the tourny just let me know. My only request is that we play the triple mando hole, I'll bring a rope... PS I have a really good idea for a temp basket location for hole number 8 but it would slow play down a little bit. What if we put a basket across the stream and played it as a huge anny shot... I'll bring my discatcher if you decide you wanna try it.

January 13th, 2011, 06:28 PM
I was thinking about Hole 8 specifically because of the back-up we had during the Celebration. I was planning on playing it in the original placement down the center. Not the longer pin or the left pin. I would like most of the pins in the original placements with Hole 12 in the short and Hole 13 in the Right.

With very little prep work needing to be done on a permanent course I will have time to move baskets on Saturday morning if need be. Thanks for the heads up. See you on Saturday!

Here are the updated Willamette Valley Winter Series Points Standings. They are current through Orchard Point. We have 5 events left in the series so you still have many opportunities to come play.

We will calculate your top 5 points totals in the series to crown Divisional Champions. The top 1/3 in each division (who have made 5 or more events) will qualify for the Series Points payout.

Word on the street is that next week's series event is going to be on a new layout at Alton Baker... Confirmation Andrew?

Word on the street is that next week's series event is going to be on a new layout at Alton Baker... Confirmation Andrew?

My street sources confirm this. The idea is to have a layout that is close to some of the designs that came out of the city's course design workshop. These designs were generally 'worst case' scenarios where all the holes avoided any of the Cuthbert overflow parking areas (essentially the large fields). So it would be a smaller, more technical course.

But since there won't be any Cuthbert parking issues I'm guessing that if it's at AB, there'll be some use of those open areas.

I think it's also supposed to be a food drive tourney, but in the absence of information; speculation.

purediscgolf
February 14th, 2011, 03:54 PM
Yes, we are moving to Alton Baker Park. Westmoreland was simply to muddy to get a permit for the event. The layout we will be playing at Alton Baker is something that could potentially be a permanent course. As Jim said, it is going to be a bit shorter and more technical. About 9 of the holes we have played before. We've also incorporated a Par 4 into the mix ;). All the large fields are being avoided to show the City and Cuthbert folks how it could potentially work permanently.

The Ice Bowls are Charity Events. All players will be required to bring in a donation of 2 cans of food or $5 cash. Food Donations will go to benefit Food for Lane County. Cash Donations will benefit The Arc of Lane County. Thanks in advance for your support of the community!

Thanks again Andrew,
I thought that the new layout at Alton Baker was really fun. Pretty short, but lots of variety of shot making.

Question: Overalls are your best five places right?

purediscgolf
February 20th, 2011, 08:53 AM
Yes, the points are in a grand total right now. So if you have a total over 500 points then look back on your events and add up your best 5 to get your current standings. We realize there needs to be a feature that automatically sets up the top 5 events. At this point we are keeping it in a Grand Total format. There will also be a Grand Total Points Champion after the whole thing is said and done. This champion will be crowned from ANY division. Cheers,

Hello everyone,
We are holding the finale at Perkins Peninsula County Park on Fern Ridge Reservoir. This park was the logical choice after Richardson was unavailable due to mud. I am going out tomorrow afternoon to make some twists and turns on the old course.:shooting: This is sure to be the most grueling layout in the Series. :bricks: Please let me know if you'd like more information. :chinscratch:There are definitely many factors that weighed into our choice of this park. We could potentially have a seasonal course here during the winter months they are closed.

Yah, I love Perkins Peninsula. I was 14 years old when I won my first Pro event ever at an OLE there. We have an outside chance of getting a seasonal layout there next fall. They are closed from Oct 1st through May 1st which would give us 7 solid months :)

BTW Bryan,
You and Ben Chilton are in quite the battle for Advanced. If you can pull out a win at Perkins this weekend it will put you into a sudden death playoff for the entire Series. Check out the Top 5 events points standings I posted earlier. You could replace your 98 with a 100 and gain the 2 points you need to catch him ;)

Thanks everyone, it's been an awesome year so far. I definitely learned a lot about what it takes to run smooth events. There are simple things you can do to prepare yourself for "crunch time".:pullhair: Those few minutes can be brutal when people are waiting to get their payout and all the scores are still being tallied. It's just about relaxing, being prepared, and not feeling rushed. :dancing:

Thanks for all your support and help this year. Stay tuned for more Pure Disc Golf .Com events in the near future. Our next tournament is planned for the first weekend in May at Alton Baker Park. The Emerald Valley Open will be a great opportunity to show the other park users how Disc Golf could incorporate into Alton Baker.

Also, I had a great discussion with Cliff the Park Host from Perkins Peninsula County Park after the Series Finale. He expressed his regret for the park not looking as clean as it could because his back has been hurt. I quickly offered up the help of the Disc Golf Community.:biggrin2: Cliff could be a great ally for us and with enough help we could make quick work out there. Please keep an eye out for information on upcoming work parties at Perkins Peninsula. I'd like to show our support and keep the ball rolling on a permanent course there soon. We also may put together the first event in the Willamette Valley Spring Series soon (April?) to keep Disc Golf fresh on their minds.:yay:

Thanks again for everyone's support this Winter. It's been refreshing to see the new competitors in each division. I hope these events have boosted our confidence going into the larger events this summer. Cheers,
