Andy,
Actually 1 of the dates and days is correct.
Thanks, and way to pay attention bud.
I really didn't think anyone would notice.
This means a prize for you if you are at Sam Brown on those dates.
FWIW, those dates would've worked for this year.

Hey yose, what do you think about getting rid of the pro place cash and add it to the skins round for more money that way. I have talked to a lot of pros and they like the idea. What do you pro golfers think?

Brant,
For the most part, you pro fellers have been deciding amongst yourselves about the $ and how it's payed out.
So, although I'm not totally sure what you're trying to say, (maybe you left out "last" pro place cash?), it really doesn't matter to me.
Remember, if it were up to me the pro's would be payed out like the old days to at least 40%. :whistler:
We pro masters still pay out half the field.
It seems that the money is not quite as important as our love for the game and what it has to offer above and beyond the root of all evil. ;)

What i'm saying is no overall payout and use the money for big skins round. Even though you sound like a hippie:nahnah::nahnah:, you are right money is the root of all evil, it also can buy you hookers and cocaine! so it can't be all bad.:cheers::yay:

Someone plays pro in all 10 events, never wins cash and ends up DFL every gig.
Now he's qualified because he's played 5 or more gigs.
What then has he qualified for?
$1 from pro's, per gig goes to qualifiers payouts.
An average of $20-30 a gig.
I think that much could be covered in side bets.
Also, we have a bunch of fellers who play pro but could easily and often do play am or adv in other gigs. That adds up to a lot more payout per gig, that wouldn't be there if these fellers didn't step up. By rewarding them it may give a bit of incentive.
FWIW, last place qualifier payouts have started at around $10-20.
Should we stop paying out qualifiers?

I received $25 last year for being in a three way tie for first and losing in the playoff, splitting the 2nd and 3rd place cash with Shane.... I know last year everyone must have got the same exact amount, I say heck with auto qualifiers, If you want overall payout talk to Shane and I and get in our side bet for the series Champion. My vote is that money goes into skins. Every last dime of it

Scott,
Adam handled the pro payouts for the overalls and the skins last series.
I really don't think that everyone got the same amount, as Adam has handled many payouts and is a very fair person.
Also only $1 per pro went into the overall payout which makes that purse smaller, while your skins was twice as much.
If you put all the cash into skins, it's that much more the top golfers will get.
Do you care at all about the pros that step up and never cash?
It's some of these pro's money ($25 a gig goes back) that you and the other top golfers put in your pockets all winter long.
So what does qualifying mean to last place pro?
It's NOT all about the money to some of us.
Yose

I would almost rather see that $1 go to trophy or something instead of more skins money if anything. I definitely don't think padding the pockets of the top few pros is what the money should go to though. They get enough of our money throughout the year. The finals is for having a great time and getting a little somethin back for qualifying so you can buy some beer to wash away the memories of getting your ass whooped all year  When i first moved up to pro, it was the first year you guys decided to pay top third instead of half. Of course i made every event and cashed once. I took 6th or 7th place at 6 events only to be 1 spot out of the money. I cant begin to tell you how frustrating that was. I only made it to 4 events last year. I think that little bit of money that you get for last cash makes you feel like you can compete and is enough to get you to come back again and again but when its just the same 5 dudes getting everyones money every time, it makes it not feel worth it at all. Seems to me the top pros should want more "dead money" (as some greedy bastard in my group last weekend put it) to show up and donate which i think we would have alot more even if we paid 40%. Anyway i am done ranting. I will make it to as many SOWS events as i can and this year I'M taking all yer money :nahnah:

Greetings to all you SOWS Flippers and Flippettes,
This will be the 15th year of IMO... a series very worthy of attending.
We get to play on courses that can be fun, mellow, technical, challenging and some quite rugged with lots of vista views.
We have the pleasure to meet new golfers.
The fees and payouts seem to be fair.
There have been very few complaints over the years.
Plus, we get TD's and courses like Caveman Carlson and TP WEST!
So, I don't see any reason to change anything unless it will make it better for all the players, not just a few.

Rumor has it that Obama himself thinks there is too much OB and and vetoed the use of the park . Just what i heard anyway :P

Yes we do not have Pearce West tomorrow, there was a cycling event schedualed on the same day, and evedently that day never got confirmed for our event. :pullhair: so our ONLY option ot this point is regular Tom Pearce. but at least we have an course to play. Pearce West should happen when Pearce was originally sched. super dissapointed but its prolly a good thing cause the water back there was soooo high and murky it lookied like mud and you could walk across it. c u all tomorrow

Well, I feel sorry for the peeps who will miss the Millsite gig.
I understand why and perhaps next year the scheduler may have to see when the Civil War is being played before finalizing the schedule.
Those of you attending will get to play 4 brand new holes on the "Beauty" side of the course.
Unfortunately this means there are 4 less holes in the "Beast".
This course can be "BirdieVille", as long as you stay out of the OB.
Personally.... I've never really cared to watch BLOWOUTS. Go Ducks!

Copy that, I love the back side myself and will miss em, but, a lot more dger's would be missing plastic if we played the whole "cottonwood bowl" area.
The beast grew some hair this summer and didn't bother to comb or trim it. Josh went out and cut a few whiskers but it's looking pretty gnarly.
The new ones can all be birdied, and then again they could get some 3, 4 and 5 P's also, as they all flirt with OB, which is the beauty of it.
Oh yeah, hole 18 is underwater so bring some waders or hippy boots. :biggrin2:

This course is the 2nd oldest permanent 18 hole disc golf course in the state!
It was designed when Cobras, Spitfires and Eclipses were the big driver discs.
So, it started relatively short, but has been tweaked over the years and plays a bit tougher.
Also, one of the "Trips" had an idea.
Have a separate ctp for all divisions, with the winner getting a paid entry at the next gig, and the rest paid out the day of in their respective divisions.
Example would be:
20 pros pay $5 = $100
$100 - $30 = $70 extra paid day of.

I think/hope there will be 72.
4 on a tee with no waiting at all.
Yeh right! I must be dreaming eh?
How about 85 dger's with that left-handed-righty Gatorman being the only one with 2 double digit rounds to finish at a bogey free -21.
Or a -23 if he goes for a 35 foot birdie on #17, instead of laying up and rolling away for a four which would ruin his bogey free round at the same time.
Josh will make a run for the:trophy: for the 1st round, but then he'll be making a run for the bushes for the 2nd round. :chug: :nahnah:
Both DC's should be in the hunt.

Hello Oregon golfers, My name is Jason, and I am new here. I was wondering if anyone has played golf with some of the Medford golfers....Like Jesse Benbow, Porter, Boydster, Mark McMillen, Greg Tchedder. I has a friend that lived in Medford in 2002-2005, we played some tournaments up there, I really Liked the bring your own double that Jesse Benbow held at Whistlers Bend.
I am looking forward to Playing at Selma in March, take care all.

We don't see Jesse much since his 2 kids.
Porter and the Boydster still play quite a bit. Big Rick McMullen and Cheddar show up now and then.
The doubles gig has turned into a very popular event and we have had quite a few Par Infinity golfers attend over the years. :wink2:
So, is the new course where the old course was/is?
Is tee #2 gone?

The course at the Redwood curtain is still there, still the same, some slight pin changes, but overall the same. That course is at Humboldt State University. Tee 2 is still there, it needs some new wood chips inside now and then, but still there.
The junior college, College of the Redwoods, now has a course. Real easy to get to if your ever driving down through Humboldt. It is just south of Eureka, about 1/2 to 1 mile of off the 101.
Some of our long time Par Infinity members are busy with new families and busy doing other things, but we still see them. Mike Belchik got married in the last couple years, others have moved, but still show up for tournaments.
I remember meeting you about 6-7 yrs ago at Whistlers and other tournaments up there, I was just a young chunderhoad, so I doubt you remember me. My friend Howie lived in Medford, so I got to camp with those guys at tourneys up there.
Take care Yose

Yes Howie Is no a physical therapist here in Eureka. He is the head of his department! We both now have kids, so it is hard to get out of town. I believe the dbls shootout is the weekend of his daughters birthday.
His family bought a 26 acre parcel in the redwoods above HSU about one mile. We developed a 18 hole course with baskets, some cement tees....but his parents are going to retire there...so it isn't a "open to the public/free for all course". We often talk about having a camp-out tourney there, and you guys will get a heads up. Thinking one round at Redwood curtain and one round at the home stead. We call it Iydlebear..it is on Iydlebear road.

Of the 20+ courses I've designed, this one just crawled up in the top 5.
Most of the course is the same as last year. Most of it. :biggrin2:
The changes/additions will make it play a few strokes tougher.
Hole # 11, the long flat hole next to the Rogue is close to 600 feet.
All the leaves are gone, (Mama Cass) and the park is looking shaweeet.
I dragged a bunch of limbs out of the fairways, but my bestess friend kept dragging them back.
I think she heard me say, "Dougie will prolly roll the shit out of this course" and was thinking she was helping me out. :rolleyes2:
Hole #6, the one after the Myrtle Grove, will play on a mini mountain.
The county has temporarily placed about 50 yards of sand/dirt in front of last years setting.
So the basket will sit at the top of this mini mountain.
The new hole 13 will be a double mando island shot with a real sandy beach.
Adam and I have a goal of, NOT playing any of the "wheel" baskets.
Please call Mr. Joshua, Caveman Carlson, or Yose if you plan on bringing any chains.

Good news!
Windy Creek is looking as good as it ever has!
Between the snow, heavy rains and elk herds most of the disc losing vegetation is gone.
I've been designing course's there since the mid 90's and it's never been so playable.
With that being said, the first four holes are brand new with the first 3 out in the open.
The creek is running pretty good, so the water holes will be tweaked a bit.
The infamous "Salamander Hell Hole" otherwise known as the pond or hole 16 is looking tasty. I cleared most of the willow suckers so we'll have a clear shot over, through, or in the pond.
The holes on the mountain will be the same as last year except we'll go back to the long downhill with the skinny fairway.
Sad news! Old hole 4 (Stumpy) didn't survive the snow and has collapsed.
We'll use the same fairway but the pin will be to the left.
SCOTTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you please set your baskets on the holes by the arched fir tree (same area you got your tree ace) and the one before it? Those are the toughest ones to set up. They are holes 8 and 9 this year. Thanks!
Also, I use to say it at the gig meetings, but then you all started doing it without a mention.
So here's a friendly reminder. :cop:
After you have played your final hole PLEASE pack the basket and the tee markers to a spot where they can be picked up. Thanks!
Who thinks that they will take JB down this year?
He defeated some very big names last year. :wink2:
We can only hope this course didn't scare away some of those fellers north of Eugene.:whistler:
The weather so far will be the best we've ever had for this gig.

It was designed to lay up at the entrance and then up to the green.
I didn't want that one to be a birdie hole.

That was fun and brutal at the same time. I was 9 over on hole #6 1st round 6 double p and 2nd I carded a 9 triple p. Dang 140ft hole. Then i saw a players like ShaneO take a 9 on the hole #6. Scotty card a painful 10pppp on hole #7 and later on in the same round on hole # 13 card a 9ppp. I Think Gabe found every piece of O.B. in the 1st round. I would like to know who took the most penalty strokes? It was a fun set up thanks Adam.

Jesse,
It's funny you mention this now, as I have just about come to a decision as to how I am going to handle scrip in the very near future.
Here's my kitchen sink draft:
Any scrip that is not from the current SOWS will be worth 25% - 50%.
I received scrip last Saturday from the 2009 Whistlers dubs. :headbang:
Scrip from current SOWS will be honored at 100% until the first gig of the next SOWS and then will be reduced to half off. (you may want to offer 50%)
I was also contemplating the idea of using scrip for entry fees at a reduced value.
Also, I may NOT continue to offer merchandise that I don't normally carry in my store.
Thanks for bringing this up.

Hey Jesse,
The biggest difference between old and new scrip is in keeping the books.
FYI, there is still over $150 in scrip out there from last years SOWS and another $100 from dubs gigs.
I have had, and will always have, enough stock on hand to honor ALL the scrip I've handed out.
My accountant has advised me for years to stop being so nice and try the "use it or lose it" mindset.
I haven't made any decisions yet because I want to be fair.
I asked in another thread how folks feel about "ancient scrip" and got some different opinions of how to deal with it.
So, I'm not quite sure yet how this will work out.
Thanks for your input.

The back at Selma was set to the B's yesterday. Also there is some minor but significant flooding on some of the lower holes on the back. Of course much of the field and the area near 5's pad are under water too.

Congrats to Robert from Humboldt CO in advanced. I got to learn a lot watching him shoot a real fine second round, in some horrifying conditions, and take every shot clean and smooth as if the conditions were perfect. I told myself a par in the afternoon would win for me and I woulda been right had it not been for Robert. Nice playing by Ian too. He played great for 27 holes and was impressive all day. Thanks for the work in the cold Jen Mac!

What a great event!
The weather gave us a small dose of practically everything she could muster, some real nice, and some...not so much. It was strange to see a guy with no shirt on, in the Hail....Hail to ya dude!
Thanks Yose, and everyone else for doing all the hard work!!! 3> !!
BTW, It's cool to brag about getting a birdie on the "Top of the World" hole without mentioning it was set-up short that round right? :nahnah:
Anyway, Thanks again Y'all. :bowing:

I agree, Thank you to Yose, Josh, Adam, Jen and everyone else who made this series great again this year. I am proud and honored to win my first SOWS series and be lucky enough to get to 5 wins for the series. SOWS gives pro's a great winter series to prepare for all our Summer travels and hopefully has prepared a few of us to place well in some National Tour events as well as Worlds this year. If we can survive Southern Oregon weather in the winter and still love the game, then nothing can break us!

So I had to work during the awards and feel like the series never came to any completion.
Anyone got anything? Will there be a sixteenth winter series? If a disc falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound? Again; who even won pro? I'm pretty sure it was Scotty but I've kinda learned in life things don't really exist in a certain way until they are in writing. Thanx!
