What: PDGA C-Tier "Charity Endowment" for the Chainbangerz club

Date: November 6th, Saturday

Where: Silver Lake DGC course in Everett.
When: Check in by 9:00am, then starting by 9:30am

Cost: $5 American!!!

Who: Event is restricted to 36 players maximum, that's four players per hole. Registration for Chainbangers Club Members starts TODAY!!!! Registration for everyone else starts Friday, the 1st of October.

To sign up: Just email (sillybizz@yahoo.com) or PM me your Chainbangerz number at any time.

As with many of our recent events, this is a day to have fun playing golf without breaking the bank, get a rating, help out the course/club at the same time, and "represent all that is good and fun about disc golf to the best of our abilities"!

This is my first PDGA tournament as a TD and official and I would like to thank Andrew Rivers for all of the inspiration and information provided to be able to do this and if you have played in one of his events before then you know the scoop. This will also be the first PDGA tournament at Blyth Park so come on out and set the course record!!!

FAQ:

1. Will I win vast quantities of green paper or new frisbees for winning this event?

No, in fact winning this event will only earn you the respect and admiration of your peers, nothing more. I'm sure the Chainbangerz crew will offer up some CTP prizes and such though.

2. Since we aren't playing for the big bucks, can I (take mulligans/step past my mini/kick my bag in uncontrolled rage)?

PDGA rules my friend, you do the crime, you do the time.

3. How do I pay?

Show up the day of and give me $5.

Nicknames are chosen by me. :)

Just a reminder that this event is filling fast and registration for non Chainbangers Club members doesn't even start for another week and a half! A maximum of 36 players will be able to play this super cheap and super fun PDGA RATED round that will be full of fun and CTPs without any drama. Kelly will also be running an optional ace pot that if doesn't get hit will be a throw off CTP at the end of the event. In the meantime I suggest you play DNF doubles at Silver Lake with Jub for the practice! hehe :)

Have you cleared this with both parks departments?

It's funny you should bring that up. Silver Lake is a go, Blyth is still up in the air. I'm waiting to hear back from Adam (Fletch on this site) as to Blyth. I wanted to wait to see what Adam was going to say when he gets back to me before I announce anything at this point. If we can't use Blyth then I have a couple of alternatives I'm thinking of. If Blyth is not a go then I suppose anyone who is on the registration list can back out without any worries as only one person has pre paid and it is only $5 to play which is where Blyth might get tricky... I'm already paying (out of my own pocket) for the fee that Everett is charging to play at Silver Lake and if Blyth comes in with a large use fee (if we are allowed to use the park) then that may be too much for me. I apologize to everyone as this is my fault, I got ahead of myself but I guess this is the follies of a rookie Tournament Director, it's not a mistake I intend to make again. I assure you that this tournament will happen on the scheduled date with or without Blyth Park. Anyone who wants on or off the list can still message me.

Its far enough out that if you needed to bump up the entry fee a little bit, I doubt it'd be much of a problem.

That is an option as well though I worry about charging $7-$10 for a no payout tournament.

Alright, a little announcement is due. First off, the city of Bothell has decided not to let us use Blyth Park for this event. So I've decided to play 36 holes at Silver Lake instead, I apologize to anyone who is bummed by this as I am but we move on. The second round at Silver Lake will have different (harder and/or longer) tee pads than the normal ones. Regular rules apply, cement will not be out of bounds but going long on hole nine across the cement path will be out of bounds. Same time, just remember to show up at Silver Lake, hehe. Running out of spots, better get in quick! Any questions, comments, concerns or any other reason you need to get a hold of me please send me an email: sillybizz@yahoo.com

Alright so I went out today and figured out the alternative tee pads for this event for the afternoon round, I even measured them and the original pads and uploaded those to DGCR. As for the alt tee pads, they are slightly different with some being longer and some being technical. Total of 2,516 feet for nine holes or 280 feet per hole, average. I tried to make several different routes to the basket that were fair and did very well; all of the holes have paths for RHBH/LHFH and LHBH/RHFH people.

Alt Hole 1: 471 feet. It's behind the regular pad exactly 200 feet. Regular Pad: 271 feet.

Alt Hole 2: 191 feet. It's closer and to the left near the two trees next to the water. Regular Pad: 276 feet.

Alt Hole 3: 253 feet. It's behind the regular pad on the trail close to the fence, three fence posts in. Regular Pad: 223 feet.

Alt Hole 4: 217 feet. It's in line with the regular pad up the hill on the pavement next to the fence. Regular Pad: 212 feet.

Alt Hole 5: 284 feet. It's behind the regular pad where the moss grows and where the fences meet. Regular Pad: 242 feet.

Alt Hole 6: 239 feet. It's to the side of the regular pad on the pavement. Regular Pad: 215 feet.

Alt Hole 7: 303 feet. It's behind the regular pad on the pavement. Regular Pad: 263 feet.

Alt Hole 8: 360 feet. It's behind the regular pad with the canopy in play, Regular Pad: 324 feet.

Alt Hole 9: 198 feet. It's to the side of the path towards hole seven. Regular Pad: 202 feet.

So my question is why did we need really ned to redesign the entire course? The next thing you'll want to do is make the pavement ob. I guess from now on any event at Silver Lake must use existing course. In fact I am going to push that idea NOW.

gosh jub, it really sounds like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed! you are the one that is usually making up courses at weird secret locations and stuff.

it sounds like silly is still using the course, but coming up with alternate tee pads for a second round, whats wrong with that???! ALOT of courses do this very same thing for tournaments. and what is wrong with pavement being OB? this is also a VERY common practice for tournaments.

JUb go back to sleep and wake up on the right side of the bed PLEASE!!

A. there is a lot of pavement (hence the handicapped accessible holes)
B. the city has spent time and money designing and installing the holes
C instead of adding 20 ft here and dropping 15 ft there. Why not play the planned 6 500 ft safari holes. *

Thomas,
I like this idea. I would much rather mix up the 2nd 9 hole rounds than play 4 rounds of the same layout.

Jub,
There is nothing wrong with the existing layout. When you TD an event here, that gives you the right to say what layout will be played. Be glad I am not involved because I would be pushing for all pavement to be OB.

Peace!

DMajor
October 22nd, 2010, 09:40 AM
I would definitely make all pavement ob and across the pavement on some holes. There is nothing like seeing your almost perfect birdie putt spit out and roll thirty feet down the hill across the pavement and then loop back around to the pavement to give you a nice 4p try that you miss because your pissed you got a bad roll out. You can then spend the rest of the day beating yourself up over getting a 5 at silver lake. Sado masicism is what golf is all about. Seriously though if it were me I would make the pavement OB but I understand why people like to keep an easy course easy.

Jub, I'm not trying to say you didn't do a good job with the original layout, because I love the layout but I thought it would be fun for everyone to throw something a little different for the second round, even a great course could get boring playing it four times in a row. I'm not sure if you're upset because I changed the layout or because of my layout changes, maybe you wanted a say? I have put my own time and money (currently over $100) into this tournament that I may or may not get back and if I want to add extra tee pads for the second round then I'm going to do so, in fact I think it's my duty to the players that show up to shake things up and make it fun for them. I wasn't planning on making concrete OB knowing how you feel about it because I respect that but honestly I feel that's a fun way to play it. This tournament has only a couple of purposes; Raise money for CDGC, create a camaraderie amongst players and have fun and that is my sole intention for this tournament and if you can't let go and look past your own petty bullshit and see the bigger picture, well I'm not going to feel sorry for you. Sorry to be so harsh but I feel that I have done nothing but try and do positive things with my first PDGA tournament as a director and it seems as if people are only trying to make things hard for me. It's frustrating. Maybe you could have called me or sent me an email/PM when I announced extra tee pads a week ago instead of lambasting me on the forum. I would of never done that to you.

You know when I first started Excaliber(not my first choice) I asked If anyone wanted to walk the land beforehand. It seems to me that if Tom had been involved with those and subsequent visits his ideas might have been considered. Just like BA's, Don, Captain's, Jim O, Jim A, Erik Illg and Yes, yours (Andrew) were.

Most of Tom's suggestions were considered at the time but failed to pass at least one of the tests Most notably the P/R final walk through.

I never though Silver Lake should be a Full field (all divisions) tournament venue in the first place. It will be a great place for Jr's though!

This constant shutting down of anyone who is trying to do something positive is getting old, really old

You now Andrew When I first started here I was known as "jubby come lately" just like you. But I have stuck with it, paid dearly for it and hoped to save the new crop of supporters (notice how I did not say players) some of the aggravation.

Before I started
Financial Transparency was non existent,
Flyer disclosure improved after I started writing my copy
I was the only one to TRY a Pro II event in the NW, Split weekend to boot Sat Am, Sun Open
Am Trophy only Player Packs,
Real Trophies not some half assed photo shop effort.
Proposed/executed The Survey with no prior experience or knowledge of the process
Proposed the Evaluation of events (still pitching it cause I believe we really need it)
Instant Win Basket Toss was an idea Jim O and I thought of

I have spoken to several people (again, you Andrew) about developing a possible "outside the box" revenue stream for all clubs

Some really good ideas (No! they are not all mine) are trying to once again make there way throught the 2011 WSS group. So we will see.

If you ask me, There are two kinds of people
People who say they will help and don't (blowhards)
and people who say they will help and actually DO HELP!

Now, I know both you and Tom are actually helping, I am just hoping you can learn from the choices and/or mistakes I've made because in the end are'nt we all just trying to make it just a little better

Big thanks to Andrew, Sheila and Kelly for all the help.

Aaron Seeley drained the ace pot worth $43!!! Hole 4 gets hit a lot it seems. Way to go Aaron!!!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. If you liked this event then you will LOVE Andrew's Pretzelbowl.

By the way Wayne set the new course record for Silver Lake with a -13 for 18 holes or two times around nine. Way to go on the victory as well.

I also wanted to say to the people who were bummed about not being able to play Blyth that I am not giving up on tournaments there. Sometime in the future I would like to run something there.

Cheap one day pdga tourneys are really easy and fun to play in. If you didn't go you missed out on a good time. I got to play with disc fetishist spider dan and local legend bruce wayne whitney for the first time. My putts were a little too rusty to keep up, but definitely a nice easy course to get me back into the swing of tournament golf. The alt tees were a good change of pace from the original. Thanks for putting it together SillyB.

Hey dan
forget about those putts.........its was great playing with you. I always learn from the people i play with and it was no different this time and no it was not one of those "what not to do" lessons either. Hope to do it again sometime soon.
