Hello friends!
It's time to start thinking about the Hope Open again!
It will be Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Willamette Park.
This is year two for this event, some things will be the same:
-Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society
- "Women-Friendly" Event (half of the spots will be reserved for women until 10/16)
- One day, PDGA CEP event (no non-PDGA member fees)
- Free Bag Tags in the players pack that you can put who you want to play in honor of.
- "Honor Signs" $25 Tee Signs dedicated for those in our lives who have been touched by cancer. 100% of these proceeds are donated to ACS.
Some new things:
- Free Survivor shirts for those playing in the tournament who have survived cancer.
- Halloween Doubles on Sunday
~ Just for fun doubles, not a fundraiser for ACS
~ Wear Costumes! Costume contest!
I look forward to having another great event! See you there!

I've been looking forward to this event all year. I've got to wait a couple of weeks however before I know if I will be able to play. Even if I don't play you count on a tee sign from me.

Hey guys I won the Disc Catcher Pro basket in the raffle yesterday at the Eugene Celebration, and promptly donated to Shavonne for the Hope Open. Felt awesome to do this since my husband & sister are cancer surviors. If you want a chance at winning this awesome basket then I suggest you sign up for the Hope Open, and support a great cause while playing in a super fun tournament. Who can say that they have not been touched by this disease be it family, friend, or personally.

Wow! I get online to go and brag about Cindy's generous donation of a METAL BASKET to the Hope Open raffle, and there's already people posting stuff on here about it!
Thank you guys!
As of right now, I have two people officially signed up for the Hope Open, with a lot of people planning on signing up! Let's fill the event and raise some money for the American Cancer Society!!
(By the way, the two that have signed up are men, so there are only 38 more spots for you guys until that 2 week mark! And ladies, don't take your time either!!)

If you aren't signed up YET, I'd get right on it. This is starting to gain momentum. Not only is this a sanctioned, fun tournament, it is to raise money for the American Cancer Society. If cancer has not touched your life in any way yet, it will! If not you, a friend, a family member, somebody you know and love will be affected by this disease. We as a community (a disc golf community) have an opportunity to do our part and help the ACS. Don't make this about a win/a trophy/great payout..........don't make it about you or me........make this about supporting the American Cancer Society.

Sorry about this. Northwest Sign-Ups is in the process of a major upgrade. It was only supposed to take about seven hours but my web host messed it up. Right now I am trying to figure out how bad they messed up so I can give you a time the site will be back up and running.
I will post again later today with an update.

Hello Friends!
Mike is still working hard on correcting the website mis-hap, but I have updated the list with the people he has got the information from, as well as some recent mail-in entries.
I hope you are all getting very excited because I am!! There are some great things being donated to the Raffle from local Corvallis businesses, it's going to be a great event!
Also be thinking about the doubles event, so far I know of 2 teams for sure that I have heard from... I'll start posting information on that when I get it :)
Thanks!

Sorry everyone, it's been a busy week.
Mike has informed me that he is still waiting on one last part for the online sign ups to actually work. In the meantime I am checking with PDGA to see how fast they can get something up for me. Mike has posted the registration form on the website, so you can still go that route.
The lowest price is $25 for Rec, with the rest being the processing fee.
I hope that answers all of your questions. Thank you for your patience, and hopefully we'll get something working soon!
Thanks!

Shavonne, I can’t begin to explain how much I have appreciated your patience. I had a very difficult time figuring out a few of the problems I was encountering, but Northwest Sign-Ups is back on track and ready to provide you with excellent customer service in the future.
At an event up north (Howliewood) and through a few people I know that have been fighting the cancer fight, I will be attempting to raise an additional $200 - $400 for the American Cancer Society. It will be a serious effort, but it is a goal not a guarantee. The money raised will be delivered to Shavonne in order to be added to the overall ACS donation in the name of the Hope Open.
Online registration for the Halloween Dubs is up and running. The site functions well; the cosmetics still need a little work. All the old links on this forum thread are to the Hope Open’s original purchase page, so if you use one of those it won’t look like things are up. Just go to the home page or use this new link. I have also added a link on Northwest Sign-Ups to the PDGA registration page in order to reduce as much confusion as possible.

I am so sorry about all this and once again, THANK YOU, for your patience and not lynching me.

My son in-law lost his mother today from cancer! :( My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. We HAVE to fight this disease and right now the best thing we can do is help to find money to aid in the research. Let's make things as difficult as we can on Shavonne and over fill this event. If you can't play buy a tee sign, donate $5 or $10. Lets make a difference!

Scott has graciously given me permission to set out a donation jar for the American Cancer Society during Howliewood. Friends of ours in Oregon are throwing a charity event, The Hope Open, on the same weekend and all donations made into this jar will be added into the Hope Open’s overall donation to the ACS.
This is not only a wonderful charity in which to give a couple dollars, but at the same time this is a chance to really help disc golf’s image within our surrounding communities. The money that goes to the ACS through the Hope Open does not financially help the sport of disc golf grow, but it does help open the eyes of our neighbors to the generous hearts and minds that make up the world of disc golf.
I will also being accepting checks made out to “The American Cancer Society”. All checks, along with the donation jar, will be sent to the Hope Open on Monday, November 1st.

Definitely still some spots left in the tournament, just get a hold of me so I can get your name down! Send me a PM on here or email me at: shavonne.schu@gmail.com
And if you don't have the money to come down and play, you might still have money to participate in the raffle, which is really awesome this year as Bob mentioned. Might have to reconsider being a caddy Chris ;)

Exhausted. Got home, felt good about my rounds, feel even better that my 1st round is unofficially 1001 rated, my first ever 1000 rating with so many flirts all year long. Dion was insane in the 2nd round, going into this perfect flow birding 11 of the first 13 holes and all I could do was watch the show. The raffle was overwhelming, great stuff. Had to decline my first ever pro cash wheee... props to the people who put this great event on...

Meh... I threw some shots. I don't know about exhausted. I believe Milo is happening tomorrow. :)
What an amazing time.
Shavonne... the gods could only have conspired to give us one as beautiful and noble as you as any single god would certainly fall short of the target...
What we did to deserve you, I can only hope to live up to some day. :bowing:

Ollis aces #9. He also cashes. Then he goes to Shavonne and gives both to the Hope Open Charity! Damn! You are the man! Thanks for your unselfishness.
Others gave up their cash today for the cause as well. I gotta say, well done.

What a great and wonderful weekend in Corvallis. Hope Open Saturday and Halloween Dubs today.
There is no way that I can adequately express my feelings for the hard work that Shavonne puts into this event in a selfless act of kindness. For such a young lady to be so giving is just amazing. All I can say is "THANK YOU" kiddo and please know that you are a special person indeed.
To all of the others that helped, donated, and played, please know that your efforts are appreciated.
Dion, thanks for such a fun day today and the work you put into making the doubles event what is was. HOW EVER...................all putts inside the circle have to be made with your off hand? :shocked:REALLY? I can't putt with my "on" hand let alone my off hand:waaah:, with a messed up rotator cuff especially.:bricks: Really though the various "special rules" made the morning round one of my favorites ever.
Now..............when are sign ups for Hope Open 2011?

Whew! What a weekend!
I want to thank everyone who made it to the event, there was a total of 65 players this year, about the same number as last year! We had less women than last year, but it was still a great turn out! Thank you!
I would also like to thank everyone who helped me run this event. The Willamette Disc Golf Club is amazing, they are very supportive of this event with money and with people! Thank you!
Thank you David Pittman for helping me with the financial stuff and with all the pre-printing of scorecards and leaderboards! Thank you Cindy McMahan for helping round up sponsors and just being awesome doing whatever you can! Thank you Dion Arlyn for answering all of my tournament questions before the event! Thank you Rebecca Duffy and Jeremy & Trudy Fields for volunteering their time for the day!! You all made my life so much easier!
I would also like to mention that running this event is a very special thing, because as the TD I get to witness some amazing things out of people! I love how people contribute to this event in ways you would have never thought! Thank all of you!!
And lastly, the unoffical number of money raised for ACS is $2,150!!
Great work!

That is awesome Shavonne you did a great job, and sounds like the donation this year is bigger than last year. Being both the wife of a cancer survivor, and the sister of the cancer survivor I really appreciate all the support. :kissflowers:

Just imagine if we had Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant.... oh man...
Sam
November 18th, 2010, 05:57 PM
Yeah, Snap... that is how it SHOULD have happened. The franchise in Portland is broken and they have been broken for a long, long time... and it doesn't seem to be getting better. Who knew that a mere drafting of a man could turn "pristine" knees into joints with the strength of string cheese?
But wait.... there's more! The news will only get worse, I am afraid. Losing Oden is bad... but it will not be viewed as such a bad thing when it is revealed that Brandon Roy has no cartilage in his knees. That will be a franchise-crippling revelation, I am afraid...
But there is a solution for Blazers' fans. There's a certain team that plays a little south of here. You might have heard of them? They were the purple and the gold and they win championships like it is going out of fashion. Damn, I am glad to be a life-long Lakers' fan. :D

The Blazers just need to stop drafting anyone over 6'10" and draft anyone that has had a clean injury past... wonder if Clyde the Glide is available still? or Terry Porter?
Sam
November 18th, 2010, 08:03 PM
Prior to his draft, Greg Oden had MRIs done on both knees. Examining doctors called the results "pristine". How it came to this in 3.5 short years is astounding...
You've seen this, I imagine?
