Is this tourney usually pretty full? Also, is this just going to be a tourney with a lot of drinking and smoking? Just trying to gauge whether or not I want to spend the money and drive out there

Yes it has filled the last few years. The Pro side is already full, or so Buckley told me yesterday. I saw 70 or 80 spots left on the NA website, but I don't know how accurate that really is. The Hab Rec is a great tourney and while there is some smoking and drinking that goes on, it is by far my favorite tournament of the year.

There are 42 non-pro spots still available out of 152 total. Tourney will most likely fill. Pro wait list is only at 5 players so far, so check out www.nextadventure.net for registration options.

Drinking is allowed at McIver and Hab/Rec is non-pdga-sanctioned, so some people do drink during rounds, but most players are there to play tournament golf. The amount of smoking and partying seems to be on par with other tourneys. The tournament director will be sober and lucid!

We've enjoyed nice weather at the Hab/Rec for 5 out of the 8 years it has taken place. Only 1 of the 3 rainy years brought rain during both rounds. The other 2 rainy years included 1 non-rainy round.

We'll never forget Hurricane Milo from a couple years ago, but that was just 1 round out of 16 total. That afternoon round actually cleared up. Some people are forgetting all of the other rounds with really nice weather! Odds are in our favor!

I'm heading down to Next Adventure this afternoon to drop off some CFR plastic for the Hab/Rec. CFR Champion Katana @ $25, Champion Leopard @ $20, and Champion Boss @ $20. They all have the 2010 Hab/Rec logo on them, of course. They are sweet! 100% of the proceeds go toward Hab/Rec. Next Adventure does not keep any of the proceeds!

There are still some non-pro spots available, but it's almost full. The website at www.nextadventure.net has been updated (or will be shortly) to reflect the accurate availability, which as of right now is 19. That breaks down to 7 spots remaining for the Advanced Men division, and 12 spots remaining for all other non-pro divisions combined (Rec, Am, Am Women, Adv Women, Adv Master). Sign up now!

Player reg list coming soon.

Pro divisions are full. 3 spots left for Advanced Men. 10 spots left for all other divisions combined.

27 baskets in until 9/23. Baskets pulled for Civil War from 9/23 to 9/27.
36 baskets in starting 9/28

-----

I'm compelled to clarify something. When you say "BSF course" just remember that it has been the Hab/Rec tournament course since 2003 while BSF was still at Dabney. After 36 holes became available for tournaments at McIver, the BSF moved from Dabney to McIver in 2004.

This probably came across the wrong way on the forum, but I'm a stickler for accuracy when it comes to that stuff. There's no competition or rivalry between BSF and H/R, we're all friends!

Hyzer Sosa,

No disrespect taken. I just can't stop myself when people call it the bsf course. I have to "correct" them. Although I know it's easy to call it the bsf course because The Beaver State is an amazing tournament and more well-known; and it's bigger and more bad ass as an overall tournament. And the course is the course. Now you know a little bit of the history.

thanks for the flowers, I do appreciate it!

Day use fee is not included in the entry fee. It's $5 for the day, but if you go to McIver or any state park a lot, it's worth getting an annual pass which pays for itself quickly.

Lunch is free, if that helps!

It is bagger madness -:rockon:

I have noticed something about this so called "Bagging" lately.
I think we have to be careful about pressuring people to jump divisions just because they are often in the top 4 of their current division.
It seems like there is this group of people at the top of each of the am divisions that are good enough to be in the top 4 of the division consistantly but are not really there yet to jump up to the next division. I don't think we can call that bagging.
My division is an example of that. We have 4 or 5 guys that are so close to being ready to move to a more competitive division, but they are not consistant enough to or that eager to make the change. I don't see anything wrong with that. If they leave the division it just weakens two divisions. It makes the Masters division weaker by introducing players who don't really want to be there yet and are going to be several strokes behind the field in each event. I do believe that they will benefit by playing with the higher level players, but at what cost?
It seems to me that each division (other than those with 4 or 5 regular players) has 3 tiers- The group that is poised to go up a division, those that fit perfectly in the division and those that are just moving up into the division. Isn't that what you want?
The difficult one is what do you do with the ultra small divisions? If a person consistantly wins or places in one of those divisions but is not ready to compete at higher level, what do they do? Do you fold a bunch of small divisions into one? That doesn't seem like a great idea. I am not sure what you do here. It is a head scratcher.
So, I say let's put this bagging thing to rest once and for all. Except whenever you get the opportuity to raz someone about it in good fun. Let's keep doing that.

I think this conversation will always exist in the Advanced division unless the PDGA puts in a ratings cap for this division. What you see traditionally is that the top 4 placers in the Advanced division would place middle pack in the Open division. And let's face it, the top 10 of the Advanced field are, for the most part, the same guys. Most get better by playing with better players, and if this rings true then players who make the move and place in the middle of Open initially would get better and eventually work their way to higher and higher placings. So, there are people who could benefit from a move to Open but would rather not take the lumps and those who will make the move, take the lumps and end up playing better in the long run. But, again, until the PDGA caps Advanced this discussion will always exist.

Hippy007
:cool2:

Now that we have concrete tees for all 36 holes, we will all throw from them! So yes, there will be more holes this year for which everyone throws from the same concrete tee. This is the case if there is only one concrete tee on the hole, with the following exceptions:

7W red tee will remain on the asphalt at the end of the parking lot island for D area (Rilea's Island)

10E (genius hole) red tee will remain next to the first tree down on the fairway on the grass. It's the only natural tee for this year.

12E red tee will be a new location from the first parking space next to the curb along the left side of the fairway = 495ft, par 4 for red flight. The distance is about the same, but the location is much further left and it's better than having a natural tee from the grass.

All blue tees are concrete.

The changes for this year will result in the west course being about 2 strokes more difficult for red flight. The east course for red flight will score about the same as before. The west course for blue flight might be about half a stroke more difficult. The east course for blue flight is about 1 stroke more difficult than last year.

(Note: New long tee for red flight on 9E adds half a stroke, but that washes with new short tee for red flight on 11E being half a stroke easier)

Sam

We played the concrete tees when there was no tee shorter to shoot from. That's 9 holes misplayed from harder positions. Of course... 18 penalty strokes, too...

54 on the east. 59 on the west.

I repeat:

Red Flight plays all front concrete with the exception of 3 holes as already discussed.

Blue Flight plays all back concrete.

This means that on the holes with only one concrete tee, everyone plays from the same tee, with the exception of those 3 red tees as noted above.

As always, each group gets a map, and the tee signs are visible and easy to follow with the marker flags for walk-outs.

Thanks for the offer, Gawain, but there's no need.

I'm still sore, too, Ken. Have sat on my sore ass and watched football all day. Haven't watched a full day of football in a long, long time.

Advanced Men
1. Eddie Florance -5
2. Tim Helgeson -5
3. Dan Carpenter and Jason Back tie at -3

Eddie beat Tim on the second hole of a playoff after Tim birdied the last hole of the final round by parking, with a bomb drive, Hole 11E (hole 10E BSF) to force the playoff.

The final round was a lot of fun with the lead swapping back and forth at least three times. Eddie and I were tied with two holes left, Tim one storke, and Jason two strokes back heading to the genius hole. I took a 5 after hitting one of the first trees off the tee , everyone else took a 3. Tim birdied the next hole to force a tie. Everyone played solid golf and pushed each other. Each of us only had one or two bad holes, mine just waited till the end. :bricks:

Great tournament, thank you to everyone that helped, especially Buckley it was fun getting to throw the first round with you!!!

So cool that you guys paid out all the rec/am players. I really appreciate these kind of more casual tournaments. Giving all players an awesome time, but throwing in something extra for the newer players.

Your local numbers geek (that would be me ;)) calculated the round ratings for the HabRec. They are attached as two separate PDF files, one each for the blue and red flights. Let me know if I made any mistakes. Thanks and enjoy!
