That's funny...I didn't receive a magazine. I did receive my renewal "packet". Does anybody know if only new members receive PDGA publications? Copy of the rules? Competition Manual? Don't get me wrong, I love my 2009 renewal bag tag. Just wondering how to go about obtaining some literature.

ANY issues with Memberships can be addressed by Addie at office@pdga.com

For 2009 the PDGA is bringing taking over the publication that PDGA members will recieve.
The "Flying Disc" magazine that members received during '08 will be only avail by subscription (if at all).

I am not sure when the 1st issue of the '09 PDGA publication is due.

I signed up for my new membership a couple of weeks ago, maybe the 18th or so. I got my new member packet last friday. The magazine was not an additional option when I joined up, although I do remember seeing it when I was contemplating a membership in '08. I recieved: 1 PDGA stamped disc; a mini with member number; a PDGA sticker; member card; rule book; and a ballot. I didn't really read the letter too closely when it came to see if there was any mention about a magazine.

Wow it really makes me want to sign up. Sounds like it is poorly run. And what do you really get for your money? And you have to pay extra for the Magzine? sounds like a good deal.

:puke:
NO you do not have to pay extra for the Magazine.
IF you want to recieve the Mag that we were getting this year...THEN you have to pay for it, since the PDGA will be taking over with its OWN publication that ALL members will recieve with membership.

NEW meberships are usually processed quickly, BUT there are alot of factors.
If you sign up at an event, then nothing happens until that TD submits your stuff. If they dont do it in a timly manner then you have delay.

Membership processed at the end of the year also take some time seeing how EVERYONE else is renewing as well.

The only thing "poorly run" here is your attitude.........:shooting:

I signed up for the PDGA this morning. I thought the $50.00 was a little steep to join, but I think it is real important to support the sport and support PDGA. I just hope the people are friendly towards a Newbie to the sport. Happy Flying :biggrin2:

I renewed last night and they sent me an e-mail today saying my packet had been shipped. I waited a long time for my first one in '06, and like almost THREE MONTHS for my first Revo bag before that. Don't get too frustrated, it's worth the wait (especially if you get TWO) :D. Also remember they're still the sports only governing body so this stuff will happen. :(

I finally received an email from the "membership" staff who advised me that there is no membership staff or department...thus the reason for the delay in getting any of my stuff to me for the past year. She did say that they were going to forward me all of the publications that I never received last year. I must say that it was nice to get some sort of response in the end.

every time I call PDGA headquarters, they answer the phone fast, and reply to all my questions and concerns immediately over the phone, anddd I'm doing it through relay. Imagine how much faster it is for you guys since no relay. Email is good, but PDGA headquarters is much better with answering the phone and helping you out. I waited about 2 months for my first ever PDGA new member package and its pretty nice to have.
As far as fees goes, I think it's pretty cheap considering there's a full active staff helping run the PDGA on so llittle membership. Last time I looked there were only 4 thousand active members. For the PDGA to be more efficient and for the sport to grow mainstream recogniztion, cheapaxes need to start joining up and paying the fees etc. Disc Golf may be the fastest growing sport in the world but until we all start contributing to PDGA and to the courses finacially, we will be stuck in the mud trying to get the mainstream attention that we all so desire.
Just as a note; DDGA has an executive board running the website everyday and is the governing body for Deaf tournaments and all the extra stuff etc. Membership fees are $20 for new, $10 for renew and all the work done for DDGA is volunteer. Sadly a big factor in the inability to grow more is the fact that a majority of Disc Golfers in the general population want to have the sport as cheap as possible.

I got my renewal packet yesterday, really surprised the hell out of me, I gotta say. I renewed a couple weeks ago, and got the email saying I'd get it in 1-3 weeks or whatever. I was expecting more like 2-3 months (that's what they've been in the past), but I was pleasantly surprised this time around. I know that before it was some external mailing service that was taking so long, so the PDGA wasn't to blame directly, but still, it really shouldn't take that long to put something in the mail. In a day and age when most stuff you order gets shipped in the same day, even a 2 week delay is still kind of a long time. I'm glad to see that they're improving on some counts...still got some work to do though.

I don't mind gives me more ammo when I email them, which I just got through doing for again for about the 10th time:headbang: It was not a nice little note either.:shooting: I mean really how hard can it be to drop my new member packet in the mail. I mean were coming up on three months now.

Don't get me wrong I have loved all the PDGA events I have taken part in. I also love the idea of being able to track my progress, and getting my first rating was way cool. However this whole hassle with the new member packet is taking away from all the good stuff.

Well there is always next week, or next month, or at this rate next year.

I got my packet acouple of days ago and in it was a Stratus. I thought cool I will try it out at the course. My first throw went long and into the brush.
It was really hard to find because it is black. I will never buy a black or a green disc because they are so hard to find. It can be laying right in front on me and I will not see it.

Rather than get sucked into more Jubish, why don't ALL current PDGA members reading this forum send the PDGA a note that we are disappointed in their treatment of our PNW DG sister.

We KNOW this is an isolated incident, but it still sucks.

Rather than read through all the posts here, I'll ask- have you called Karolyn Garlick in the front office? ANYTIME I've needed help from the PDGA, she has made it happen ASAP.... when sometimes others haven't been so fast to respond.

I have been talking to people to find out about the PDGA. I have really not heard any good things.
I found out the Magazine that I have not got yet is not Flying Disc Mag. The one I will get someday is about the pro's. I have heard the there is 80% rec players and 20% pro players.
The PDGA caters to the pro's and the magzine is gear to the pro's and about the pro's.
With Disc Golf growing at a rapid rate this will have to change. Disc golf Magazine is still alive
and getting more popular. I am sad that is not the magazine I am suppose to get. Maybe someday they will look at how other sports got so popular by pro's promoting the sport from the bottom up.

I did finally get my packet earlier this month. The problem with mine was that the first packet was lost. The mini with my PDGA number was the hold-up on resending because they had to re-make another one with my number, and they only run them a few times a year. I had to wait for the next run to be made. I did get that explaination right off the bat, so that's why I was getting pissed at them because they kept telling me basically it was in the mail. Had I understood the process beter from the beginning I would have been fine with it. Lack of communication was the main issue I had with the whole process.
