Air aced hole # 1 at SeaTac Disc Golf Course in SeaTac, WA, yesterday, with a Champion Wraith. It has been a year (2009 Pretzelbowl) since I got a hole-in-one.

Felt good.

Not really an ace, but it feels every bit as good if not better. Got the big par 5 at McIver again today, in the short placement in 3. A roller off the pad to get me 40 feet past the 'octopus' tree. Then a big air shot that I thought was going to drill chains for the duece, but alas I was 10 feet past the basket when I got up there. It did hyzer in between the two guardian trees on the right side. Paced the 2nd shot since it was a straight line more or less and came out to 173 paces. It made my day!

Got an ace at the Wash Slosh today RHBH with a Roc on a little dinker shot that faded to the right. The funny thing was the hole before was an island shot that I took a 4p on, then got an ace and took another 4p on the following hole. So I went 4-1-4 for three straight holes. I just looked at it as three pars with the ace money coming my way.

Im usually good for an ace once every two years........dont really try for them they just happen by accident. Going on 16 years i had 8 aces..........all at fort steilacoom except my last one at white river three weeks earlier (short tee hole #12).

Feb. 14th at yauger park i was playing wa team disc golf and i got an ace in between rounds practicing a short made-up hole that replaced some of the holes they took out due to flooding. 173 pro line (champion) monster skip off the asphalt guessing 200'.

Started second round at hole #13......raining.....carry umbrella.....losing by five. Dropped off umbrella at pavilion around hole #16..........grabbed a few birdies....opponent grabbed a bogey........down by three. Got another ace on hole #1 with a 169 black omega super soft......very sweet right turn hit all chains. Grabbed another birdie on hole #2...........ended up on hole #5 (which i think is normally short #6) losing by one stroke. Got my third ace of the day with a 180 pinkish-red 2006 throwback ce roc in the air.

I guess i dont need to ace for another 6 years since i took care of that in one day. Sweet!

didn't even know that basket ever moved out of it's left position? or speaking of 11 in normal 27 layout?

Bruce
February 21st, 2010, 11:33 PM
It won't be in the left position for quite sometime. We cleared out a ton of blackberry bushes behind the basket and in doing so it opened up that entire backside. So there is a bit of danger involved know from hole 24 (in the 27 layout) with drives being able to get through the green, coming from both sides. We are going to either try and let the Oregon grape that is there grow in, or find some sort of shrub to plant to fill in the void.

Got an ace Sunday while practicing for the Ice Bowl @ Corbin. 5th ace.

Hole 5.
Right Position
S.S. Avenger
Right Hand Backhand

Sweet turnover that hit the hill behind the basket and somehow when we got up there was in the basket. Didn't hear it hit anything so I'm guessing it hit the hill and bounced some alien way into the basket without chains. Probably the dirtiest looking ace but who cares, ace is ace.

not an ace, but cool short story... rocklin course, hole 4, about 220 hyzer route, stalker hits the basket couple inches low with guys on hole 5 looking on, saying omg omg.. then hole 5 260ish sidearm short about 3-4 feet with the same guys on hole 6 tee looking on... then they tell me play through on hole 6, they are half way up the fairway and i let go of a sidearm and it looks beautiful and is fading just perfect for an ace run and justtttt misses chains on the backside, missed it by less than a foot past... 3 consecutive ace runs, that is nuts... they are telling eachother they have never seen anything like that in 3 straight holes heh... fun stuff.. makes you love disc golf even more..

I dont know if Danny Wortz gets on here, so I will post his Ace for him. He hit hole 18 at Trojan yesterday. A perfect forehand shot into the cage. I had to step up next after it. I threw a T Rex in a straight line towards the basket. It skipped up and slightly left. If it skipped straight it was definitely gonna go in too.

welll.... i guess i was getting ready for an ace when i got those ace runs a few days ago at rocklin... I'm playing Napa - skyline park, blind... gosh this park is thumberville.. anyways, I'm having a rocky time playing blind, overshooting holes and all of those blind mistakes... my round is falling apart but I tell myself, it ain't over till it's over... step up to hole 10, sloping fairway and a tough straight shot over the elevated sloping fairway, 180 feet straight with tree overhand blocking any hyzer route... I take out my 10x kc pro eagle and my IL'09 abrahobama esp buzzz, decide i'm gonna try to flat line the buzzz and hope i dont hit the fairway or go too far right and hit the trees... and I just unhurled a nice solid throw and before it was half way there, guy in my group is running out from the bench area 20 feet away and jumping up and screaming "it's going in, it's going in", the others on the card are watching the whole thing just saying whoaaaaaaa... straight beeline, nothing left, nothing right, dead center bam! My first tournament ace, so sweet, this is the stuff that makes playing tournaments worth it... got about $40-$50 ace money from random players. Got to buy the old tee sign from the club.. gonna hang on my wall, perfect beautiful tournament ace!
Only bad thing about the whole thing is I'm torn between hanging it or throwing it some more... I did buy another esp buzzz if I decided to Hang it up.. advice?
Even one of the players on my card's girlfriend witnessed it, hope she will support her man by watching him more often and see more cool shots...

Right now, there is no set layout for the course, but I play the same 9 holes every time.

And yes, I will be fixing the course once the new dorms are done this summer. One of my goals for the club is to buy new baskets for the course, because some (well most) of ours are... not very good.

I vaguely remember the discussion about your nice chips, and we'll go ahead and count those... but I am of the mind that no object, tone pole, or tree aces count toward a player's 'ace total'. Do you count it as an ace when you slide up against the pole:chinscratch: or rim out? Don't answer that.

That's a good point. I've had plenty of nice shots hit the basket, sometimes hard (had one nice tomahawk fall straight down on the middle and bounce off), and on a tone pole course those would be "aces." But I sure don't count them.

Ace:

8.Golf.
a.Also called hole in one. a shot in which the ball is driven from the tee into the hole in one stroke: He hit a 225-yard ace on the first hole.
b.a score of one stroke made on such a shot: to card an ace.

So in disc golf, if it's your first throw, and you can put it on your scorecard as a 1 (even if you're not keeping score), it's an ace.

Sorry I didn't clarify which of your aces I was referring to. How's your comprehension? Point was that if you want to brag on the internet about 80 foot aces or other hits some people don't consider aces you can expect a little guff, and you don't have to be a drama queen and call it "hate". You're getting razzed, not being hated.

You've got a point there Chris, just not a good one... I guess it's all about perspective... I'd venture to guess that 8-9/10 disc golfers that I know would say it doesn't count as a 'career hole-in-one' if it's not on a basket. I've played Urban and Woodland Park quite a bit, and nobody that ever got a 1:wink2: at either of those courses counted them as aces in their running total. I've had an ace or two at each, and some questionable ones at both courses... but they don't count anyway, in my book... it's just not the same, or as difficult... maybe there should be a distinction between 'aces' and 'holes-in-one'... and I like the sound of hole-in-ones better, but I think it's actually holes-in-one..:chinscratch:
Sticking in a basket is much more difficult than deflecting off of something... object courses often have many dinky holes that are super easy to reach... object aces are often controversial, or too difficult to confirm... and lastly, :slapface:umm... lost my train of thought, oh yeah, they just aren't as cool as a "REAL ACE":nono:.

Tom, you know I'm just dragging this out to get your goat... no bringing your gun to the course tomorrow ok?:shooting::shooting: OK, OK, whatever you say...it's an ace... it's an ace!!

Hit witnessed ace #2 @ Corbin Park yesterday playing Jungle golf.

Back of the sand volleyball court to 15. 173 gram Z Glo Stalker signed by Dave Feldberg. Distance measured with a range finder 340 feet.

Ironic that Dave signed my Discraft disc and I hit an ace with it the second time I ever throw it. Almost aced with my first throw on hole 4. That thing is money.

Well I did and he did. And yes he should be penalized for being such a badass. And the best part is he even told me that I'd probably get an ace with it. Jokingly of course because he was saying that because he had touched the disc. Low and behold, it happened.

As for signing Innova discs, I did buy a 1 of 15 Eco Pro Wood Aviar with the Team Champion Star hot stamp with his name on it. Got him to sign it. It now sits on the wall. May sell it or trade it though. I can't justify having a disc that I won't throw.

No not the same hole. But yes with both hands. I Have way too many right handed aces to ever remember. I've had multiple ace rounds. Many multiple ace days. But never a left handed ace on a real hole playing to a basket. I've made some good left handed object aces but never a basket.

... that's nonsense... if you ace it you ace it regardless of witnesses (i however, also think this disc signing business is a little bit silly)... and shame upon the people who so lack integrity that they would cause a person to feel that way... oh, right... nevermind me... my only aces have been on tone poles and all y'all basket snobs don't count those either... ;)... seems to me as some folk be forgetting their roots and where this game came from... okay, sorry 'bout that, rant over...

Thank you all for your kudos, I will never forget the ovation I got at central upon arriving to turn in my round 1 card, the one with the "1" on hole 14!

The feeling is indescribable, but you know the second it happens that you have hit the one in a million shot.

It was the 3rd hole of play, Great Northwest Open 2010, Whistler's Bend. (There had already been an eruption of cheering from the start of the course, and we later learned that hole 1 had been aced on the first throw of the tourney!)

I snapped the green 173-gram Discraft ESP Surge on a low line, with a lot of hyzer, straight at the basket. It flipped up to flat, and locked in. It sailed on a laser line, frozen rope straight to the basket. As usual on top of the world, it was hard to judge the distance. It continued on its rail straight course, getting smaller and smaller from our point of view. Then, it stopped with extreme abruptness, perfectly framed by the basket. After I wondered for a second if it was in, or straight behind it, the "ching" sound arrived, and I lost it. I fell to the ground, and then began to join the screaming fanaticism in my group. I got up and it was and it was high tens all around. As I again became aware again of my surroundings, I could hear everyone freaking all over the course. The spotters were losing it.

People started coming out of the woodwork, up from the campground, to see if all the yelling could really be the unimaginable: ace from top of the world! My group jokingly asked me to clear my disc, but I declined, and once I got to the green, Jeremiah Jones showed up with his camera, Terry Surratt rode up on his bike, people were coming from everywhere, cheering and congratulating me. It felt amazing knowing it was real, as I pulled my disc out of the basket.

I untangled the chains, unwrapping them from where they had been smashed up around the hangers, and let the rings drop to where they should be. What had sounded faint from 725 (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2002&mode=uhi)feet away, had really been a violent collision of plastic and metal. However, the sturdy ESP Surge was not damaged at all, and shows no signs of the improbable impact.

Arriving on the next tee, more people signed my disc, and I was congratulated by none other than Lane Mason himself, perhaps the only other player to have aced that hole from that pad, and we shared stories, as he described his witnessed, non-sanctioned, dusk time ace of #14 with a DX Glow Roc.

Even though there ended up being six aces that weekend, splitting my portion to $46, the shot itself will mean more to me than money for the rest of my life. Jesse Siebel even came up to me and gave me a ten-spot, claiming that the shot deserved much more than the ace pot portion, and of course I accepted and thanked him.

Of course, I will continue to seek out the aces, the wins, and the moments, but that is one I am fairly sure I won't be able to easily repeat in this lifetime. I was happy to have held it together that round, that next tee shot on 15 was a tough one to focus on! I shot a PB round, but did not recover from the lunch celebration, and did not finish well in the tourney. I must admit it has been tougher to concentrate on tricky drives and hard putts lately!

I don't know what more to say, except you should have been there, and good luck trying to match it! That, and I'll take any ESP Surges you have lying around...

Which one is #11? There have been several aces on #18 at Terrace which would have to be contenders for longest ace in WA--Gibson Holub with a Roc and Evan Troka with a Max are 2 that I know of.

Yeah, Dion hit the Steli hole with a Force. I think it's the one he calls '465'.

As for the Bend shot, all I have to say is HOLY SHHHHH....

Congrats again.

I think the worlds longest ace was hit in Montana @ Diamond X Ranch. Like 815 or something like that. With a Valk.

Okay, so I edited this to add the right information. It was hole 18 @ Diamond X. 726 feet. With a Polaris LS. Although the vertical drop there is 183. So in hindsight, I'd believe that the Top of The World ace @ Bend is the furthest due to less elevation drop.

Dabney Doubles - 5/06/10
Hole 8 (right position) length maybe 250-260

Crist Garcia - took home a cool $277.00

I was about 5-10 seconds from seeing it go in...we were walking down 7 and heard the Bam of the chains and then heard Crist yell and then watched him run as fast as possible down the fairway to celebrate with his disc in the basket.

I had a really anti-climactic ace yesterday. While playing a solo round at Lakewood I was teeing off on hole 8 (Boognish Alley), the tunnel shot on the far side of the park, and some guys were crossing behind me on their way to Geezer. I sent my Z Glide skimming the hill all the way down the tunnel, the disc giving weeds high-fives all the way, and it settled into the basket like a gentle putt with almost no sound. I looked back at the guys, who then became nervous at the strange look I must have had on my face, and said "I think I just aced that". They were unimpressed and left, but as it turns out some guy from Maine, lost and wandering around on hole 9, was there to see it go in.

I should have had him sign the disc, but after we joined up I let him play with it the rest of the round instead. He was a noob with a new champ Starfire, and was in desperate need for a disc like the Glide.

Thank goodness he didn't lose it, that disc now has two aces on it (Terrace hole 3). I've always wanted a multi-ace disc!

Nice work ChUcK- If you're going to try and name a hole (which I'm totally down with) then you might as well ace it.

Well well well... moving back to Oregon is looking good so far. Tonight, made a last minute decision to go to Salem's Cascade Gateway league. Got there just in time. Was quite windy, up to 20-30 mph gusts throughout the round. The wind was affecting everything up to short putts which caused my putter to hit the band on holes 18 and 1. Stepped up to hole 2, glo stalker in hand from dion arlyn, threw the hyzer route which is the only route on that hole and bam stuck in the side of the cage! Ran as hard as I could to grab it before risking it falling out... Must have played that course 100 times and I was starting to think I was never going to ace at my home course. And it was good for the $100 ace pot too! First league ace and first home course ace. Not sure how good the round was compared to the other scores turned in but it was a good round, -7 in the wind... Fun stuff, that's what Disc Golf is all about.. good night all...

EvanCongratulations! That hole is memorable to me because it was my first ace as well. I originally hit it with a DX Gazelle. That's when I knew I should throw a shorter disc, cause if it didn't go in it would have been all the way back in the blackberries. So about a year later I got it again with a DX Roc. :D

Way off topic but it made me laugh. I was watching the little couple, I think thats the name of the show. one of the shows with little people. dude was golfing and someone asked him his handicap and he replied "dwarfism". Now everytime a golf handicap is brought up I think of that reply. It was pretty funny because the guy asking the question was blind sided by his answer. anyway...

Come lunchy league I will wait for the acepot to fill up for a couple weeks then I'm gunning for 7 again.

I don't think that prospect went into the epicness of this ace.

Its the same basket that he aced in the same tournament last year and it was pretty long at 350 feet, sure. But it was also on the last hole of the last round, moving him from a tie for second into a tie for first. Then he turned it into a win in the playoff. Fifty is a nice round figure Chris. Work on that. :shooting:

Would have loved to have seen the lunchtime hole 5 ace instead of just your description of it later that day. :bowing:

I threw a star ROC(san marino?) into #5 last night at Corbin park. I thought it was a bit deep and called for it to"get down". Oh it got down , floated smoothly into middle chains, and dropped softly into the basket
:bowing:.My 3rd ace this year:yay:

Hit my 17th Ace last night. Last throw of tuesday twos for the season and I hit hole 1 again with my green spider. 6th on the disc. 3 of them are on that hole. What a way to finish the season.

That was an awesome way to end your season. The ace was needed to finish -17 and win by one stroke.

To add to the excitement, Albert Ricker stepped up right after Will and hit the basket! Unfortunately, the disc rolled about 50' away after hitting the basket. Albert and Sean had to settle for par. Had Albert aced, they would have tied Will and Luis with -17.

And all of this happened on their last hole of the night.
