Seattle SuperClassic - PDGA C tier - Saturday, October 2

2 round of 18 holes at Lakewood to try out superclass :trophy:
__________________________________________________ _____________

Meet at the lower parking lot at Lakewood by hole 14
Check in: 9-9:30am (first come first choice on the discs!)
Player's SuperMeeting: 9:45am
SuperStart: 10:00am

REGISTRATION IS OPEN: I'm going to be restricting the player limit to 40 players maximum (although I doubt we reach that).

The first 20 registered and paid players and ALL of those who register BEFORE September 20th will receive a custom stamped Superclass disc for the tourney. If you register after September 20th, I can't guarantee a disc.

Cost: $14 if you would like to get a custom stamped superclass disc (Hero 235) OR $10 if you would like to play with your own discs (no player's pack). Chainbangerz club members can take $1 off either entry fee option.

Paypal (cefire@sbcglobal.net), check (3411 12th Avenue W, Seattle 98119), or cash in person all work for me. If you are sending a check be sure to send me an email so I know you are IN!

Payout: Most of the entry goes to buying discs and to PDGA so, as usual I'll just have a few things to give away (and probably the Chainbangerz shop will too!), but this will mostly be a chance to try out superclass for a day.

Seattle SuperClassic FAQ:

Will this affect my PDGA rating?
No, PDGA will calculate a SEPARATE rating for superclass, this will have no effect on your "regular disc" rating.

Do I have to pay the $10 PDGA fee if I'm not a member?
Nope, PDGA superclass events have an exemption from the non-member SuperFee.

What discs are legal for SuperClass?
The most common are the Zephyr, Hero 235, Te Moko, SuperStar, and almost all large diameter lids like ultimate discs.

What discs are NOT legal for SuperClass?
Sonics, Condors, Polecats, and regular putters like Aviars, Wizards, and Magics are all NOT SuperLegal for play.

What is the SuperLayout? (This is if all goes as planned, so may change!)
Pins: 1-short left, 2-deep left, 3-long, 5-see below, 9-short, 10-long, Geezer-long, 12-long, 15-short, 16-long, 17-long, 18-long
I've tried to create holes which will be either challenging 2's or that will be challenging 3's (par 4's with SuperClass discs)

Hole 5: For the first round, we are going to play to the long pin on 5 and then play the SuperShort tee to basket 6. For the afternoon, this will reverse and we will play 5 to the short pin and then regular 6.

What is SuperPar?
Holes 2, 5/6, 8, 10, 13, 14, 16, 17, & 18 will be par 4 holes and Geezer long will be a par 5 hole. Total par will be 65.

Will I have SuperFun without my Boss/Nuke/Katana?
Yup, these things are fun to watch SuperFly and great for developing wrist control and SuperLong range putter/midrange accuracy.

Pinknal's wildest dreams have come true - Superclass is coming to Seattle :trophy:

Mark your calendars for Sunday October 3rd for an awesome day throwing graceful straight lines at Lakewood.

I don't have a ton of details, but as usual the tourney will be ultralow cost and everyone will get a superclass disc in their player's pack and a special surprise too!

I won't ruin the surprise Andrew, I promise! :)

Done. I keep my Hero 235 in the bag all the time now, and I keep finding more and more excuses for throwing it. Now I have a good one!

What's so hard to understand about that? Perfectly reasonable.

Sooo, a little change to the previous plans, we're going to have to move this to Saturday because the first Sunday in October date is traditionally the Seattle Disc Golf Club Championships. I spoke with Lowell and the SDGCC will be happening on that date (an early heads up :))

As an added benefit, Brian's marriage will now last until the first year his anniversary conflicts with an event :)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2nd is the new date for the Seattle SuperClassic!

Schweet, lookin forward to this. After seeing Toby's inquiries in the other thread, do you know what kind of discs you're getting, Andrew?

August 17th, 2010, 07:24 PM
I just placed a personal order for:

Hero 235's (Star and Dx)
Zephyr's (Dx)
Te Moko

I'm strongly leaning towards the Hero 235's because after using both the Zephyr and 235 at Lakewood on Sunday, I could throw the 235 further and more accurately. However, the Zephyr has more resistance to turn in general so it makes a good "hyzer" disc for those trick shots. I'm not sure about the Te Moko's because I think the worldwide supply on those things is pretty limited, trying to find 20 or so in a decent weight would probably be pretty difficult.

Yes, but you might find the J-Star (Junior Ultimate disc also made by Discraft) with a diameter like the Zephyr works a little better, especially for putting.

YES!! Chainbangerz now has Zephyrs and some other random Superclass discs. I can tell you that these were just stocked today and I have already sold one! They might be going quick. No Hero 235 discs in though....yet.

Slim to none most likely, it seems as if they are hard to find but I'll poke Keith about it when he gets back from vacation. I'm interested in those myself!

I have a Temoko, a Zephyr, and a Hero 235 and my limited experience (10 casual rounds) has been that they are all quite a bit similar. These are all discs that don't fly as far as your normal everyday putter (Wiz, Aviar, Magnet, or whatever). My theory is that since they don't fly that far disc flight characteristics don't make as much of a difference. My fav is the Zephyr. Temoko is a bit more overstable and Hero is a bit more understable. "Feel" is important in putting and it seems like the Hero feels the most like a normal DG disc.

Haha, I actually had a dream last night that while shopping at Trader Joe's, I found a stack of Te Mokos for sale. So yes, I would very much like to borrow one, and my id agrees!

(They were also selling some rubbery disc that melted in your hand when you picked it up--I'm not so interested in those.)

Andrew gave me a Te Moko out at Lakewood yesterday and this is the disc for SC. The grip feels much better like it doesn't have such a deep rim like the Zephyr and you can throw the heck out of it because it's more stable than the Zephyr which is like the Firebird of SP apparently. It's going to be a blast. Have fun out there. :)

cefire
August 23rd, 2010, 05:54 PM
Yup, I tried out the Te Moko yesterday as well and thought it was definitely the most stable of the three types of discs. However, I still prefer the 235 for now because I have far more control and can throw it the farthest of the three.

BUT, I plan to keep a Te Moko in my "bag" for the tourney for those "big" hyzer shots :) and potentially a roller or two if I can figure that out.

I'm still planning on getting 235's for the event though because they are the only discs I can get for cheap - I'm trying to keep this as close to $10 as possible so you may want to stock up on a Zephyr or TM if you think you'll want some extra stability.

Tom are you bashing the baskets at LS again :nono:
I was waiting for someone on the thread about the stolen baskets at Riverside to say "Why couldn't it have been Stevens?" A real move of Gorilla Art would have been to steal, um...er..., I mean replace about 6 baskets at Stevens with real, um...er..., I mean the other baskets and scatter the LS baskets amongst a few other course. That would have been a great DG prank. If anyone wants to try it I say go for it.

The Superclass tourney looks so tempting. I'd love to go out and try and whip up the course throwing forehands with an Ultimate disc but alas I must save my kitchen pass for Fillen Ze Disc the following weekend. Good luck to all.

Perfect day out there, thanks everyone for coming out and playing - I know I had SuperFun. Saw a lot of great shots (and a couple of wagon wheels as well!). Micki 2'd hole 18, Aaron banged a 70 or so footer on hole 1, and I almost had my first SuperAce just hitting the lollipop on #1. Wayne won the SuperPutt contest and Brandon outdrove us all on the SuperLong drive contest with a huge Zephyr bomb.
