ok so Mazza and I were getting some practice for the WRO this weekend and got a driver stuck in a tree.. Hey it happens!! Anyway as we were trying to dislodge the disc from its tree by throwing rocks(badly too) some other golfer came by and without saying ANYTHING up the tree he went. This guy went up the tree and got the disc for Mazza and when he came back down we offered a couple of dollars for his help. The guy said " nah I'm good bro " and off he went!! We gave the guy mad props for his effort and wished him many a good karma for his help.
Now thats gota be the coolest thing I've seen at White River!!

I've actually seen this happen a few times and done it numerous times myself. Adam's right, climbing trees is fun. It also makes sense that if the tree is climbable, and there aren't any long sticks around, just scurry on up there right away without throwing a single rock. Climbing a tree takes a certain amount of energy, but throwing rocks up in a tree ruins your throwing arm, and there's no telling how many throws you might need.
It also is kinda nice to perform micro-scale heroic acts every now and then, hoping that the recipients pass it on.

i am and was on topic. i was just adding to the details of the story. but the point of my statement was and is that the guy went up the tree for MY disc. then wanted nothing in return:rockon:
but if i was not or did not stay on topic. then my bad:slapface:

So from this thread we can deduce that two out of three disc golfers are lazy? Two disc golfers will stand around while the third does all the work? I feel like i'm missing the point, or am I, or are you? Or... maybe this thread has no point...

Sounds more like a City work crew.
What's yellow and sleeps 8?
City Light truck!
Farmer watches DOT truck, stop.
Guy gets out grabs shovel and digs a hole, puts shovel back
Different guy grabs different shovel and fill hole in.
Gets back in truck drives 50ft and stops process starts again.
After the third time farmer asks
"What are you guys doing?"
Response "We are planting trees today and one of our guys called in sick"

Climbing a tree takes a certain amount of energy, but throwing rocks up in a tree ruins your throwing arm, and there's no telling how many throws you might need.
A couple of years ago, I got a Sidewinder stuck good in a pine about 25' up while teeing off on #16 at Highbridge. I was out playing a morning round with three friends and we all threw rocks and sticks at it for about 15 minutes and were about ready to give it up when a dude from a group of six that we let play through walks up and pulls a wrist-rocket out of his bag and says, 'Here.' Took about 4 tries and I nailed it. Ever since then, I carry one in my bag. They're insanely cheap ($4 at the local sporting goods store--6 if you want a really nice one, but I got the one that folds up flat.), best money I've ever spent. I've shot down at least 10 discs since then and a couple of times it was someone else's that was about to kill their shoulder trying to throw rocks. Do yourself a favor, pick one up.

Yup, the good old wrist rocket is the way to go, especially for those high-up ones. I don't keep mine in my bag, but if the 18 foot pole is too short (built from two diameters of plastic pipe and ending with an old fiberglass CB whip antenna with a wire hook on the end), I've got the wrist rocket in the cabin. Zippyboy carries a Ski Ball in his bag. It makes a great low altitude cannonball.

You would think after so many years of play I'd be caryin a sling shot. I must have forgot...
