Staying in medford tonight heading up I-5 into washington tomorrow I will be stopping at one course off of I-5. Where do I have to stop?

Whistler's if you are willing to take the 20-25 minute detour off of I-5.

Pier is a good stop, but probably 15-20 off route. Lunchtime is like 5 minutes off I-5. Leverich in Vancouver is 2 minutes off I-5.

Whistler's Bend if you've never been there. No question about it.

Now that that is settled, who wants to show me and my father in law around the bend?

Lunchtime and Leverich don't belong in this conversation.

Does Cottage Grove? That's right next to the freeway.

Cottage Grove is great. But it's still Whistler's.
I suppose if it's between having time for 18 at Cottage Grove or only 9 at Whistler's...
I'd still say Whistler's and then just be late for whatever it is you're headed to, and play the full 18.
Heh.

what time are you coming through? I could possibly take some time out of my day to show you around the bend.

Yeah, Cottage Grove is not bad. Those other two are close enough off the freeway but they are about the last courses in the Portland area I would send anyone from out of town to play. Then you have Whistlers, which is worth going out of the way for even at the cost of scuttling any prior plans.

Yes, play now, ask for forgiveness later. It'll be worth it.

Well I know they aren't big, tough courses, but they are RIGHT off the 5. If you wanted ones that take you least off your route, they would be in there.

If you haven't already committed to WB, Bryant Park in Albany is definitely worthy, and its only a few miles off I-5. Par 58.

So glad you loved Whistler's!

Bryant -- agree. It's a fun course! And a little closer to I5 than Whistler's. I'm thinking 25 min for W, but still 15 for Bryant. I don't know why it takes me fifteen -- on the map, it's so close! But I manage to get myself lost, which is kinda fun... every time, I do a different variety of confused. So, what, is it really more like 10?

Hard to believe Dexter is not getting any love at about 15 minutes east of I-5. It's still my favorite Oregon course!

Yeah, it can be a bit tricky. If you can find your way to SW 3rd Ave, you're golden. ~8-10 minutes from I-5.

It was a pleasure to be your host at Whistlers yesterday! I had a blast, hope you can make it to some tournaments here. If you are ever passing through again make sure to give us a ring and we will do it again!

Is it easy to navigate Whistlers and Dexter if you are playing them for the first time?

I haven't played Dexter, but WB is pretty easy. The only trouble is that on most of the back 9 at Whistler's, you can't see the basket from the tee, or even from anywhere NEAR the tee.

Yes, if you have a map. Neither course has much in the way of Next Tee signs, that I recall.

It's not that hard, John. After hole one is hole two and after two is hole three and so on like that. Don't worry you'll get it! :nahnah:

Heck, Trojan is less than a mile from I-5, it just takes a few miles to get there, due to the Columbia River! There is a bridge in Longview, it's maybe 10 to 15 minutes from I-5 to the course. It's no Whistler's Bend, but it's a very good course.

It's a bit over a mile as the crow flies from I-5. If all you can jump is a mile, don't try it. I think it's about 12 miles to drive, overall. When you pull off at the first Kelso ramp (going north), there are a couple miles of a freeway that dump you out going the right direction on Tennant Way. Then there's a left turn onto Oregon Way for a mile or so to the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Then you have that slow speed limit through the town of Rainier, the 50 MPH speed trap outside Rainier, and then you're nearly there. Sorry there, Speed Racer, 10 to 15 minutes ain't gonna happen in your Scion.:biggrin2:

Nope. I played Pier and Milo 3 weeks ago and Willamette several times over the years. I try to forget about Kalamath Falls. I hope y'all know how good you have it down there, especially along I-5.

Whistlers is easy to navigate on the front twelve holes. Thirteen occasionally throws people for a loop, often getting skipped because you walk by 15's teepad on the way to thirteen. I would disagree that most of the back 9 can't be seen from or near the pad. Eleven and fifteen are probably the most difficult to find but they are easily seen by walking no more than a hundred feet at most. This will all change soon because we are in the progress of putting teesigns that show distances, pin positions, and distances to easily seen natural markers on the course.

It wasn't all a breeze finding my way through first time courses for me on Tuesday. I played 5 courses, starting with Keizer Rapids, Woodmansee, Timber Linn, Waterloo, and then Dexter.
I had the first 3 courses to myself, so no help there.

A local shot with me for half the way through the Waterloo course, so that made finding my way through that course a lot easier.
Then Dexter was easy, compared to finding my way through the other 4.
Yesterday, I played Hyzer Pines in Sisters, also for the first time.
Found my way through there alright, but shot 3 times at the wrong basket.
Good times.

Team Deaucebag is open to anyone who happens to get me at doubles or 4-way events. Gotta make a shirt some day. Just found out I may be in the Portland area again in a few weeks. I want another crack at Pier and try out Dabney for the first time! :jumpspin:
