It's been a couple of weeks but I finally got a chance to talk to the Rangers at Champoeg about extra baskets, pads, weekly matches etc. I actually got a lot of positive feedback from the Rangers. 3 holes can be added but the only condition is that I need to stay within the confines of the course. Weekly doubles matches are fine to help raise the money for the extra baskets. Concrete tee pads can happen but only if I can prove to the rangers that people are willing to help with the added labor. The biggest point they made was if a group of us are willing to help the park with other chores; such as, cutting new trails for other areas then we will get the help from the Rangers to add tees pads and what have you. I got them to add trash cans on holes 6, 10, and 14 those should be there this week. So my question is, "How many of you would help with work parties and are you guys down with weekly doubles matches to help with the basket fund?"

:yay:

I am down to put in some hours to make Champoeg better and more holes! Long live disc golf!

Where are you going to fit in three holes within the confines of the existing course?

I don't know exactly where the holes are going to go. First, we need to raise money for the baskets so we can have them on hand to try out different spots. If need be I have the go ahead to move some baskets to make room for another three. With some enginuity there should not be a problem finding where to put the holes. If you can remember there is plenty of room in the back between holes 5 and 6.

Thanks for the support Brent.

I'm not sure you can use the area behind 5/6. I believe that is considered to be an important habitat area for the Western Bluebird. That would also be additional mowing the park would need to commit to, which seems unlikely considering the economic times.

I'm not trying to be a downer - I really like the idea of expanding a course whenever feasable. Please consider that expanding to 18 holes may not be the best interest of this particular course. I'd rather see the existing holes stay that same rather than make them shorter just for the sake of making the course 18 holes. I'd rather have 15 quality holes.

In the mean time - see if you can get your hands on a practice basket to experiment with. You can mark a tee pad with wire construction flags ($7.99 for 50 at Home Depot). If not a basket, drive a stake with a brightly colored flag where you think you might want the basket. This will give you an idea of how the hole might play.

Best of luck.

I would have to agree that I would rather have quality then quantity. I am not too familiar with champoeg (played 3x) but it seems like there are 15 holes for a reason (i.e not having room for 18). But I am totally down with a work party to get some cement tee pads built.

Very nice. 3 more holes there would be really nice. I'm sure they could be fit in through the course maybe without changing the existing just maybe change the numbers if you add them in. Those extra cans will jopwfully eliminate all of the debris id hope.

Good work and hopefully the weekly tournament / donations can get this started.

I would be willing to come to a work party, and a weekly at Champoeg would ALMOST be on my way home from work :)

What's a good time to start the doubles for you guys. I was planning on or around 5:30, since the park closes at 9. As for the day I am pretty set on Wed.

I'd go as late as you can and still finish before dark. Many people will need a little extra time getting there since Champoeg is a little out of the way.
