i would very much hope the second course is not cottage grove, that goes for a lot more driving and a lot of disappointment, i vote for either all dexter or throw in alton baker

I like the decision to use the grove, it allows players to see the new course and it eliminates the dreaded 2 flights one course format of ECs past. Alton Baker would be fun also but it is a temp course and therefore requires alot more work to set up...if the park is even available that weekend for disc golf use. Anyone wanting Alton Baker bad enough should be contacting Rebecca ASAP and asking how they can help make that dream come true. A vote might make a small amount of sense with two established courses, but with Alton Baker being roughly 10x the work for the volunteer TD's a vote is right out.
Thanks EDGC! Never again 150 players at Dexter!!

Let's see, permanent course with cement tee pads, ten minutes from Dexter and the camping....hmmm, yeah sounds rough. Oh what the heck, let's just "throw in" Alton Baker, that won't take much work and I'm sure all those who "vote" for that option will get cracking on it.
Dexter and CG is going to be awesome and I thank all those who are making it happen.

Vote with your money! If you really think the Eugene Celebration 2010 will not be worth your entry, due to being at CG or whatever, then don't sign up!
Personally, I have played at CG before, and I am looking forward to the EC being held there, and I will be signing up, once the flyer is published.

Ten minutes by rocket. 30 - 45 for humans in a car.
Don't argue unless you have proof.
A short drive for great golf nonetheless.
What Mr. Treelove said.
Is it August 10th yet?

It's more like 30 minutes according to Google maps, if you take 58 back to I-5. You might shave a few minutes taking Cloverdale Rd. What can I say, I'm just a sunny, optimistic guy. Google maps shows 26 minutes from Dexter to Alton Baker (not that it matters, since the tournament is not being held there).

I am a little disappointed by the combo of venues. For the locals it works just fine but as someone who carpools down (with someone in the other pool) the logistics of having to break down camp, find a ride and be at at players meeting by 830, play then go back to DS for awards is a lot to ask for players driving more than 30 miles one way. I also bet if the pools work like I think they will the drive will happen twice.
But the concept of wes and Sam and jub in one division is interesting. Now all we need is ol bob to paly and it would be perfect.

Our idea for using CG is that with a tournament looming, we can make a push to put in the final two tee-pads and otherwise spruce up the course (which is in pretty good shape right now).
We also wanted to get all the awards wrapped up by 3 PM or so on Sunday so people can hit the road at a reasonable hour.
To do this we anticipate shotgun-starting the ADV pool at CG around 8 Sunday morning and then the Pros will start with tee-times around 9 - 10 AM at Dexter.
This way, the ADV pool should be able to make it back to Dexter around 11 and create a pretty good gallery for the top pros.
No need to break camp early on Sunday and we will coordinate car pools as much as possible.

Understandable leverage but why use event to finish project?
Are they still not convinced about DG?

Sat Pools Sun Split?
Don't these two concepts contridict each other (and then add times to boot)?
Why not
Start the Open group butt crack early like 7AM Meeting (with spectators )
Then Ams. at like 1030 start (200 PM completed)
Awards ASAP after completion,
Bonus Pros who don't cash can leave really early
Or better yet
Have a cut (not in the traditional sense) but if you are an Open (X) number of strokes back you play in the shotgun as an Open group.
Contenders get times!
Anyway This is a must make event (imNsho)
Thanks for putting it on!

you be surprised how many courses use tournaments as rationale to finish up projects etc
Simply put, lets wait for the flyer, like what you see then register, don't like what you see then ummm register and shhh or don't register... I'm going to this regardless, that is if I still live up here, and I'm already missing the ODDGA tournament happening at milo that weekend, no complaints from me, Eugene Celebration been awesome to me and I look forward to some more fun...

haha yeah cottage grove is atleast 25 minutes away from Dexter. But I don't think it is too much to ask someone to have to drive an extra half an hour(oh my not twice)
If it is such a big deal then don't come
Rebecca
July 22nd, 2010, 06:15 PM
Cottage Grove is about 20-25 minutes away. I live 3 minutes away from Dexter (I had to rub that in:D) and it takes 20 minutes (taking Cloverdale across) to Cottage Grove. There will be a lot of work taking place and I will be posting work parties. Everyone who can show up for a work party - and stay for at least 1 hour working- will be put into a drawing each time for half the entry fee paid. :)
Also---we are still trying to get the schedule worked out. I want everyone to know that you will be playing only one round at Cottage Grove. This translates into only driving one time. Well----twice if you want to get technical (back and forth for those who didn't pick up on that) :) yayyyyyy
As soon as we figure out the schedule with the smoothest transitions----I'll get it posted.
Also, I heard from my sponsorship chair that we have a title sponsor-----Ninkasi Brewing. This will probably change the name of the event to "Ninkasi Open" to honor our title sponsor.
If you would like to sponsor the tourney---please let me know. We are working together to make this a great event and I hope you take part in it.
Thanks for all the comments and the PM's. Hope to see you soon!!!!!

Id have to agree. Its been the "Eugene Celebration" for longer than most of us have been playing.
Having Ninkasi as a presenting sponsor is AWESOME and Im sure they would understand that changing the name of a "legacy" event in Oregon would NOT be received all that well.
Eugene Celebration (presented) by Ninkasi Brewing should be acceptable to them.

I understand everybody's concerns about changing the name. It's not a decision we want to make but the actual "Eugene Celebration" that happens in Eugene is starting to question our "Eugene Celebration". This is a decision that might have to be made to avoid conflict.
Everyone can be assured that the best decision will be made to continue this great event.
On that note--- Cindy made a valid point. I am all for having the option of more than tournament but it isn't cool that you announce it on this thread. Show some respect for other tourneys and announce it on your own thread.
Again--- thanks for comments and PM's--- I try to take your suggestions into consideration.

I believe it's more about gaining sponsors for the name "Eugene Celebration" then anything else.

We have called the tournament the eugene disc golf celebration in the past years so that the city couldn't mess with us. This happened after the celebration folks contacted us about using it's name. This change appeased them.

2 completely different types of events. I highly recommend the Ninkasi Open/Eugene Celebration if you can spare the extra time and $. If FORE YOUTH wasn't the same weekend I'd be there! More Options are never a bad thing in disc golf.
Sad to hear they might change the name. Making it beer sponsored is awesome if you're into beer but makes it less family friendly.

With that said, it is still bad form to hype one event in from within another event's thread. Please stay on thread topic, as a courtesy to the other event organizer. No big deal in the grand scheme though.

I'm just getting back into the loop and have seen we are thinking about calling this the Ninkasi Open?
It would be very disappointing to have such a long standing event stripped of it's name. Like Hyzerbomb said, and I suggested to Rebecca before leaving for tour, we could call the event the Eugene "Disc Golf" Celebration to avoid any conflicts.
For those of you who haven't been playing as long, this is my 14th Eugene Celebration in a row.... This event brings back many fond memories from my youth and Amateur days in the 90's.:dancing:
Yes, change is a good thing but I don't think we should completely change the name of an event to appease a sponsor. :nono:
It may sound like a mouthful but I suggest the "Eugene Disc Golf Celebration presented by Ninkasi Brewing". This seems like more than enough for a Title sponsor.....:trophy:
I'm still keeping the dream of Alton Baker alive. It was my understanding that we were going to take steps to play this year there as long as there wasn't any conflicts with the Eugene Celebration Name or Cuthbert Amphitheater Events. :posting:
Please shoot me an email or post on here if you would like to pledge your support for Alton Baker Park. I believe it is time to again play at least ONE course IN Eugene for the Eugene Celebration....
As far as Volunteer support needed for Alton Baker to be playable.....It was the dedication of myself, a small work party, and the Parks Dept who really made last years NW Series events at Alton Baker a reality.:biggrin2:
Yes, many hands make light work......But sometimes heavy lifting from a few is all it takes to make a course a reality..... :yay:

alright, so everyone just hold on to your britches. holy lord this place can be like a wildfire in late september in eastern oregon. this tourney WILL NOT be called the ninkasi open. if anything, it will be called "The Celebration" sponsored by ninkasi and/or "The EDGC Celebration" sponsored by ninkasi... so just chill!!!
we realize the importance of keeping the name alive, AS WELL AS the importance of having sponsorships (especailly TITLE SPONSORS that want to see this sport grow). ninkasi is on board for whatever we want to do. they just want to be a part of this fantastic addiction that we know as "disc golf".
as far as adding Alton Baker to the mix, drew, that is probably something that you should bring up at an EDGC meeting, that of which will be happening this thursday. too late? most certainly not. but we have been planning this tourney for a handfull of months now and i don't ever recall ever seeing or hearing you say anything about adding alton baker to this tournament at a meeting. just sayin'. if you want to petition adding alton baker to the "whatever we call it celebration" sponsored by whomever, you should probably come to a meeting and petition it there, and not on "the forums". again, just sayin. but as of now, it will be at Dexter and the Grove.
as far as anyone who is seriously concerned about what we will be calling this years celebration, don't be. we will have all things worked out this week. one thing for sure though, we will all still be able to call our tourney, THE CELEBRATION. which is exactly what it is. a celebration of bad ass disc golf in the southern willamette valley.
with that said, this year's celebration is going to be more awesome than ever before. dexter will be primped and styled with abundant ob, hay bails, and yes of course, lovely ninkasi beer. tom chrestman and crew are planning on prepping the grove for its first "b tier" and we are all going to help out as well. all AM palyers packs are going to come with killer dry fit shirts with super stealth logo's on them as well as other amenities. pro's will have the option of buying their own shirt AT COST when they register.
keep your shirts on my fellow golfers (i know it's hot out) but all of our questions will be answered soon and this years celebration will be better than ever. promise. :D

I'm psyched to play the Grove! It's ready with pads and baskets and Tom and crew have done a ton of work to give us another place to play. When the green light goes up on (hopefully) installing the course at Alton Baker, you can bet that the EDGC and other locals will be busting just as much ass to get that course in, and when that happens we have another course to add to the "Celebration". Not saying it couldn't happen this year, but all things considered it seems like popping the cherry on the Grove this year is kind of a no-brainer, and doesn't adversely affect the plans for Alton Baker in the future.
Now to my own personal complaints.....oh never mind I'll just buy a shirt.
Thanks for all the work on the E or EDG or EDGC or ED sponsored by NB Celebration everyone and sorry I haven't helped in any way because I'm an ass.

Eugene Disc Golf Celebration
Registration live tonight at midnight.
Ignore the 160 players--- there will be spots for mail.
I don't foresee any trouble getting in but make sure you register before August 20th to guarantee a shirt in your size.
160 players? With 2 18-hole courses, and no flights, it seems the capacity with foursomes would be: 36 x 4 = 144. Is the field capacity 144?

Sorry---I had to.
Ghost groups are when you have more groups then holes-----you just start that group right behind another group on the same hole. So its really like starting two groups on the same hole.
If you have them spaced out correctly and with the flow of the course----you normally don't run into any problems:)

If you average around 4 over at Dexter, you should probably play Advanced, but as it's your first tourney some people might say Intermediate. Dexter is a hard one to use an average score for figuring your division, I think, because it can vary in layout difficulty quite a bit and is the kind of course where even a very good pro will shoot four over and not blink.
What's your best score at Dexter?

If it was me, I'd play Advanced if I'd shot -3 and averaged +4. You'd be competitive in Advanced as long as you were playing well. But you'd also not be out of place in Intermediate and unless you shot your personal best both Dexter rounds I don't think you'd be called a bagger....much. :)
Maybe go look at rounds from previous EC's and see the scores in both divisions as well as the scores of some Dexter locals you have played with to get an idea where you want to be.

Okay----I thought things were going too smoothly and I was right.
As of today-----the State Parks department has decided that there would be no camping in any Day Use Park which includes Dexter.
Don't panic.
Jim J. has talked to Dexter Shores and has reserved group camping. This is right across the road plus you'll have showers and drinking water. We have 8 sites--2 tents per site and 2 people per tent. Do the math - 32 people. Some of you are registered to camp through the online registration.
If you have any doubts----please contact me so you can get a camping spot.
If you have pets---Please make arrangements for them so they won't be left alone at the campground. Plus they can't swim in Dexter lake----yes the algae is back and I don't think it will be gone by Celebration.
Sorry for the wrench in plans but it is very much out of our control. Please keep the complaints to a minimum. (Did I spell that right ---- it doesn't look right)
Again----we have to roll with the punches.............

Dang it that may be a deal breaker for us. Steve is not playing, and one of the reasons he was keen on hauling the trailer down there is the fact that we would be camping so close the the action. Plus he was looking forward to hanging out with the dogs by the lake, and maybe doing some fishing which sounds like is not an option either this year. :(

Your Westie will be fine in the tent camping area. You can drive right to your site. They also have fire rings and the sites are pretty spread out under some little firs.
No (loud) partying after 10pm though. There's lots of long term park residents nearby.
The do have full RV hookups, but you'd be smart to make a reservation.

Pretty much. But Dexter's the known quantity (although there's a couple of Will 'Inversion' Larson twists).
I'd be more concerned about the Grove. Chrestman and crew have been out there tweaking it (I think Larson has been egging him on).
And I think the club may be on the hook for a lot of yellow rope.

Camping will be at Dexter Shores, right across 58 from Dexter. Space is limited. PM Rebecca to reserve a spot.

I noticed that there are 2 PGM's registered for this gig.
I was wondering if the TD was going to make them play PM if it remains at 2?
Also IF there were three, would you honor the PGM division?
thanks

Ah yes, the inscrutable nature of the EDGC. Sounds like fun.
So, may we know what layouts we are playing at Dexter. Please?

Rebecca,
I see that the field is limited to 160 and that there are already 88 am/adv signed up, as opposed to 50 or so pros.
I was just wondering if any of the am divisions might be rolled over to the pro pool or not.
I realize that things are subject to change and totally understand.

Walk out to the first trees directly in front of the existing tee pad, turn to your right and start walking back. A bunch of brush has been cleared.

Smart money is on original 7 being left as is. Bottle caps and all. (Funny how litter can become folk art!)
And as far as tweaking courses for tourneys go, I have to say I love it.
I can play courses in their original configurations any time, but in tourneys I love a course that's had the risk-reward calculations scrambled to place added pressure on certain shots.
So I say, string the yellow rope.

This reminds me of a SOWS gig 10 years ago that I designed a backwards course at Whistlers. Us locals loved it because it was different. A lot of the outa' towners hated it because they only got to play Whistlers maybe one or two times a year and loved/missed the original design.

hole 7 is up in the air right now as far as where the tee pad will go. it's a temp pad right now and there still needs to be some clearing for tourney use. we'll see how much time we have this next week...
don't worry too much about the changes. the ob on 2 and 18 just makes sense to keep people out of other fairways, and to penalize errant rollers on 18.
the hay bails on 11 are there to make the bigger arms be more accurate with the spike hyzer and big skip, and to reward the straight shot.
14 is a gimmie birdie for most. hay bails in front forces a more accurate throw. no lucky worm burners. :)
as far as the grove goes, this is the first b tier held there so we want to make it as challenging as possible. for those that have played this course before, without any ob or tweaks, even someone like myself could shoot a -10 out there (yeah right). now i'm hoping a hot round will look something like a -5 (par 56).

I just wanted to mention that I absolutely *love* the new Dexter hole 7 tee pad location! :yay: Not only is it a beautiful-looking hole, it's fair for both righties and lefties (yes, can you tell I throw lefty?), and much less gimicky than the old position. After four rounds trying it out this past weekend, it has my vote for a permanent change. :D

I disagree that original Hole 7 is in any way gimicky, but I can imagine it's not as agreeable to lefties. To the new tee pad I reserve my judgement because I only looked at it and didn't play it.

Don't Stay Here, Motel 6...

Check in was decent. Not so friendly guy working there. While I was checking in he got a call asking if the hotel used to be a Best Western. The guy said it used to be. I thought to myself interesting. Now I know why they lost 1 chain already. The room was the crappiest room I've stayed in for the past 2 years, No Joke. My company takes me traveling to various places, and I stay in several hotel rooms through out the year. You walk in, and the first thing you notice is how small the room feels. Then you notice this really ugly carpet, this wild bright blue color that makes you feel like you need sunglasses. There was a burnt out light bulb in the room so I had to use the overhead light. All the plumbing Leaked, the sink, shower, and toilet. Not to mention that the toilet had pink stains and chips on it. The towels looked like they were about 10 years old, something you would use to clean up puke on the floor in your kitchen with. Went to go lay down in bed and there were multiple hairs on the sheets. Luckily I always bring my own pillows when staying in a hotel or else that would have been one uncomfortable bed to sleep in, 2 pillows that are very worn/flat. Not to mention there were holes in the sheets and the 1 blanket you get. I was surprised to see the ac and heater worked. For all of you TV Lovers, Over Half Half (I'd say 90%) the Cable Channels came in about 40%, not very clear at all. And I thought I saw Wifi on the list, haha, there wasn't any Wifi to be seen. I'll never stay at this hotel again. Next Time I'll stay at the Motel 6 if I want cheap which is just before Eugene, right off I-5 Like this hotel

Pet people watch out for this place. They don't ask how many pets you have and then add extra charges to your credit card after you've gone. Fire alarm went off in my room in the middle of the night. They had NO batteries to replace it with and had ME unplug it from the ceiling. It remained on the desk until I checked out. Air conditioner ineffective. First room I was given had a door lock that didn't work. Motel 6 is close and much friendlier. I won't make this mistake again and will warn my friends to stay elsewhere. Nothing to recommend this place

also also, our raffle is going to be incredible. we have SO MANY sponsors it's almost out of control (thank you brian lupton).
can't wait to see you all this weekend.

Hole 1: left short
2: normal (with ob line left of tee extending past basket and wrapping around towards 3's tee)
3: long
4: right
5: short
6: right
7: long (with new, longer tee pad)
8: right
9: right (on top)
10: on top
11: long (with hay bails on either side of trees extending out to road)
12: long
13: long
14: short (with hay bails in front of pin near the little fir)
15: long
16: long
17: short
18: short (ob separating hole 18's and 2's fairway)
Still curious about how this is going to work. In a later post it is mentioned to keep "the big arms, from skipping, big hysers, and making them go straight at it" or something to that affect. Are the trees douple Mando? Island hole? Would just like to have some kind of idea ahead of time. Not that I can get it there anyway but for mental preperation, you know!

I can't say for sure, but I imagine that the bales are just there - no extra OB, Mando or Island situation.

Exactly. And all the info on all OBs/mandos will be in the player handbook (e.g., no 2-meter rule).
And it looks like we're going to inaugurate the new 7 tee pad. We got a little rain, but it should be plenty dry in a day or so. I'm guessing that 7 will now play a half stroke tougher for pros and may slightly favor the lefties with the right to left slope on the fairway. (RHBHs can spin into the pencil firs on the left.) In any case I think with 7 in the long, 6 now has it's equal as far as difficulty goes.

Matt Kabza
Will Odom
Rich Ayers

Our camping is supposed to be two tents per site and two people per tent.
My advice is to find a cuddle buddy off the list. We are doing this so we are not taking the whole campground and also because they said so. They were gracious enough to help us out of a bind so make sure you thank them.

Yes.
What's left of it anyway. A lot of that pre-paid money ended up in sub-prime Albanian derivatives which are currently trading at $.05 on the dollar.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Schedule is official now and attached.
Short story:
All Pros, Adv. GMs, and Advanced Women play Dexter Saturday AM, then CG on Saturday PM, then Dexter on Sunday's second flight.
All other divisions play CG, Dexter and then the early Dexter flight on Sunday.
You can check in at CG on Saturday morning but player's packs will only be at Dexter.
There's also an official email coming from Rebecca later today.

The hole in question is a short 180-footer, with two trees maybe 20ft. apart on the fairway about 90ft. out. The triple mando is that not only do you have to throw between the two trees, there will be a rope tied between the two trees (near the branch line, maybe 15ft. up) that must be thrown under.

Clown's mouth. Ivana stretched a rope/banner between the mando trees.
Easy layup or an easy shot, like throwing through a garage door. Drop zone if you miss.

Is this before or after the Windmill hole? Seriously, though... was Benson used as inspiration for this hole or did you guys just not have enough room to put in a real hole?

Sam, the kicker is that on your final hole when your disc makes it into the basket it drops out of sight into a tunnel never to be seen again. :pullhair:

Actually that 'tunnel' is probably one of the waste-water-treatment pools.. and you *definitely* don't want to ever see that disc again if it goes in there. :puke:

I don't really see how the two posts are the same I was merely stating my disappointment the two events were on the same day because I had already committed to the Calapooia. The post in question that is not copied here was suggesting to people they should attend the other event that is on the same weekend as the Eugene Celebration. Plus I was not involved at all with the planning of Calapooia, so it's not like I was advertising it. Sorry if my post from July 23rd was precived to be a bit harsh I do appologize for that.
