What rules would you use for a longest putt competition?
I think that means the longest putt is farthest distance the disc travels from any release point to the basket, regardless of how many strokes it took to get to the said release point. This means an ace would qualify to win a long putt contest.
Any other thoughts?

i would think anything thrown off a tee-pad would be a drive and not a putt

I don't think there really is a line where an ace is either a CTP or a Longest Putt. I think it's both.

I would tend to lean towards an ace not being the longest putt. The ace is probably going to get $$$ from the ace pot, leave the longest putt prize for someone who makes a sick putt.

Pick an improbable hole or 2, rules the aces out. After that it doesn't usually matter if it is for birdie or a circle 6. Shortest Birdie is another fun prop.

I don't think an Ace is a putt. I don't think a 200 foot approach that goes in is a putt either. A putt is a putt. If you ask a guy before he throws an ace if he's going to putt this one from the teepad, he'll say no you idiot, I'm driving!

I would just put it on a hole that is hard to ace...I know you guys have a few of them.
I warn you though I have had a problem with someone intentionally missing a putt just to get a longer attempt...they ended up getting not getting it due to a miracle birdie.
The alternative to long putt I like is best second shot....just make sure it is a longer birdie and you are elite sort of hole. Personally I think that best second shot encourages better play and does not penalize the person who lays up accurately from 80 out to maintain par.

To clarify, the title of the thread seems to suggest that we're talking about a putting competition.
Why would people be putting from teepads?
If what you're trying to do is add interest to a tourney CTP style, just take a bag with a pen and piece of paper on it and stick it on the hole where the longest putt is to be recorded with a nail or some kind of spike to hold it in the ground.
As each group plays, any player that chains out from further out than the previous best gets to move the marker.
Call it the longest chain-out or whatever and exclude aces by rule.
You'd probably need an observer on the hole since it would be a new concept for the players...
You could also require the use of a putter, however that would rule out people that don't use them and means little when some guys throw their aviars over 300'...

This is how we run best putt, ctp, best 2nd etc....flag with name etc. :)

I won a longest putt once when I smashed a 200' fairway ace at an Oly fundraiser. I wasn't going to mark it, but Gilby yelled to me from across the course (imagine that) to mark it and he gave me a kickin' grey hoodie. Wearing it right now, as a matter of fact.
I think any shot that is not off the tee has to count. Where do you draw the line between putt and fairway ace? Ever seen Steve Rico putt?
