We have several large city parks out in the east side of Vancouver, how does one go about petitioning for a new disc golf course? it would be nice to have one a little closer than Leverich.
Thanks!

I suggest contacting the local Club, which in this case is Stumptown (I believe), and see if these possibilities have been explored. If these possibilities haven't, which I can't see how they couldn't, then there might need to be some coordinating with the Club and the Parks Dept. I believe you could help a lot by working with the local Club rather than an individual effort, ie. petitions etc.
And I know from firsthand experience that fresh perspective/energy is always welcome, even (and sometimes especially) with an established and succesful Club like Stumptown.

My suggestion would be to start attending Stumptown meetings. We have people working on new courses all the time and we would love to add some new names to the lists of planners... and potential courses.
Steve "Magic Powers" Carson has a great relationship with the folks up in Vancouver, so he'd be the one to get in touch with.

PS: And you thought Emma was just being sarcastic when she said Magic Powers...

The Parks Department wants your opinion: http://www.cityofvancouver.us/parks-recreation/about/future.htm
I've also been in conversation with VCP&R about Haagen Park (http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=haagen+park,+vancouver,+wa&fb=1&gl=us&hq=haagen+park,+vancouver,+wa&hnear=haagen+park,+vancouver,+wa&cid=0,0,11378145575339525802&ei=-fh7TOKgEoi6sQOznomDBw&ved=0CBcQnwIwAA&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A). If you are interested in working on this, please contact me.

Now how do you get a State Park to add a course? The folks in Hood River do not have many city parks and the ones we do are very small and well used. Any suggestions? I have contacted State Parks office in Salem and the County here in Hood River, but the only response was "thanks for your letter" and "we will be in contact with you". Maybe they will be, however it has been sometime now. Thanks for any ideas.

Here in WA (Mason County), we contacted the Regional Park Manager who got us in touch with the Chief Park Ranger for the area (WA Parks Dept. are in disarray after budgetary cuts, so there are several Parks considered "satellite parks" that are maintained by a Regional Park Rangers). Being able to communicate with the Chief Ranger and her superior, the Regional Park Manager, allowed us to speak specifics about the Park we were interested in. In other words, start with the Chief Ranger, seeing as they will be responsible for maintaining the developed Course. They should be able to point you in the right direction to speak directly to someone.
Hope this helps.
Oh, MCDG was able to get a Course approved, and a lease agreement signed, on a City owned property. The site is a 60+ acre environmentally protected aquifer recharge. It is not a Park. I hope this also helps.

If you want to push something specific, ask the County about Toll Bridge Park east of Parkdale... quite a bit of it is taken up by campsites, but there may be some room in the far north or far south.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Will do. I have heard tell of a object course at toll bridge, but never played it. Thanks again.
