I'm trying to get together a PDGA sanctioned Ice Bowl in Seattle for this winter (February most likely), and I just got preliminary approval from parks and PDGA. Its going to have a bit of a different concept than most tournaments so I wanted to get a quick gage of people's interest in the idea.
PDGA sanctioned C-tier singles
Temporary course layout (at an awesome Seattle area park! Par 4/5 holes, difficult terrain, elevation :D)
NO ENTRY FEE
Highly encouraged donation to a food bank in Seattle
Along with the whole no entry thing, no or nearly no payout - trophy only
Please leave me some feedback on this even if you can't go and especially if you aren't stoked about the format.

So basically, the idea is to get PDGA ratings, play together competitively, donate to a great cause, and not have to spend $$$ on tournament entry fees.
Any ideas? (Oregon folks, I want to hear from you too!) :whistler:

That sounds like an event that really embodies the intended spirit of ice bowl. I hope you get this off the ground, I think it would be a hit.
In my hometown, there used to be an icebowl with a $10 entry that was $5 if you brought a certain amount of food. This generated a lot of food for the local foodbank.

Sounds like a great idea! I love temp courses and I love donating to charitable organizations.

Sounds awesome Andrew, I'm definitely interested. It just so happens that I know somebody that works at a food bank/social services agency that's interested in helping disc golf grow. Can you say what park it is, or are you keeping that under wraps for now?
And hey, maybe I can actually shoot a decent tournament round if I don't have to pay for it!

Got to keep that to myself for now, I don't want to say anything prematurely since its still in the planning stages (but making good progress!).

Maybe its kind of like free food...

I can't vote for both "No, I don't mind the fee" and "Yes, I'll be there" ! :pullhair: :smash: :( :headbang:

Yeah, these polls don't have the flexibility ask good questions. You could vote for "I want to win something for playing well" and "I will definitely be there".
Should be able to pick two options for the poll.

FYI - It looks like there are more park fees than I was initially told about when I put in my application to Seattle parks. Also, it looks like the PDGA charity endowment program has gotten more expensive (e.g. doesn't cover as many costs) which would leave me at about -$300 in total for this event.
Looks like an event at Woodland park (the intended temp course park) may have to wait until nice weather and look more standard in terms of entry fees, etc. so some of that loss can be recouped.
I'll be thinking more about it, but I'm always open to suggestion.
