Week 1 results are up: http://home.comcast.net/~accuspeed/LL10/Week01.htm
Wow, we had an incredible 54 players just in week 1! Thanks to everyone who came out to League. Too bad we did not have food, let's hope for better luck next week. Also, if you have a group that would like to donate food, even on a one-time basis, we would certainly welcome and appreciate it, just contact me.
A CTP prize of a free paid round of League (week 2) was donated by Garrett Shields! Gawain Stern won it, overdriving hole 5 by about 12 feet with a Champion Roadrunner, and cashing the deuce putt.
Pat Darr, David Traina, and Tyler Miller posted hot raw scores of 33, but of course the real money is in the adjusted score, and Dan Brown blew away the field with a 34.70 adjusted score, taking first place, 54 points, and $40.00.
Some course issues were raised, and we are looking for solutions. There are still issues with trespassing, trampling, climbing on buildings, littering, dogs, and illicit drug use. We may need to move holes, remove holes, erect barriers like nets, fences, trees, shrubs, educate players, etc. Volunteer effort and contributions are needed and appreciated; I plan to implement a Bucket Brigade where each group will bring an empty trash bucket to their first hole before the round, and bring in the full bucket from their finishing hole at the end. Garrett said he could help with poles/netting, and this is the kind of help that will keep this course in the ground.
Tournament players are rarely the problem, and everyone was helpful and cooperative. Players that had discs go OB onto private property refrained from trespassing (some after a little reminding) and instead reported their missing discs so that we can try to recover them properly.
Jeff was out on the tractor mowing, and that sure made the course a lot more playable. The weather was awesome, and the evening light was spectacular as always. Week 1 is always a little rough logistically, and it took a long time to get the scores up, so we turned the players loose and informed them that they will get their payout at next week's event. Now that most of the Week 1 kinks are worked out of the system, Week 2 should run a lot more smoothly.
I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we wrestle through the issues and get League running smoothly. I really appreciate all the help I got this week, like from Sam Gibson, Pat Darr, Andy Verhoeven, Lonell Greene, Chris Graham, Garrett Shields, and so many others.

Tyler Miller Int+1.5 raw score 33 hcap 3.10 adj score 36.10 place 3rd
Hey with a division of Int+1.5 shouldn't the handicap be -0.1, giving Tyler an adjusted score of 32.9? That corrected score would be good enough for first if I'm looking at this correctly. Or was Tyler supposed to have been Adv+1.5? :cop:
Oh also I was planning on signing up in adv but it looks like the divisions just carried over from last year.
Had a great time monday night. Thanks for all the work you put into this G, and I swear I'm not tryin to bust your balls with this post. :bricks: :kissflowers:

Sorry folks, there was a little confusion in the starting divisions. The policy is posted at www.lunchtime.us . (Remember that after 2 weeks, they have NO EFFECT, your handicap is then based purely on your scores.)
Thanks for checking the results. You're right, it looks like his handicap was set at 3.1, which is Adv+1.5, not Int+1.5. With a 2010 Week 1 score of 33, and a 2009 average of 37.67, he certainly sounds like an Advanced player! Additionally, if you look here: http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9879 , you will see that he has now played Advanced in the PDGA at least once, meaning had we known, we would have started him out at Advanced at time of check-in.
The spreadsheet does not automatically compute the "bumped" starting handicaps; I will be looking to automate that in the future. I probably made a mistake during the data entry. However, after reviewing all the information, I have decided set Tyler Miller's starting division to Advanced. This also results in him moving from 3rd to 1st, but not by near as wide a margin as you had calculated when you had him at Int+1.5. Sorry, Dan Brown and Luisa Nav, but that's how the ball bounces - you are a victim of human error.
Updated results can be found at: http://home.comcast.net/~accuspeed/LL10/Week01.htm
Thanks again, Eric Olson, for your close attention!

Week 3 was awesome! We had a record turnout of 74 players! The weather was perfect!
Claude Koch hit the ace on hole 7, a sidearm with a Discraft Flick, to collect the $174 ace pot!
Luis Nava and Andrew Nava showed they are forces to be reckoned with, tying for 9th place on the week, and taking over 1st and 2nd on the season!
The help of Sam Gibson, Jordan Lewis, Chris Graham, and others was invaluable. The CTP donations from Next Adventure, Garrett Shields, Bob Cabal and Sean Fry were very generous! (I screwed up and forgot to send out a CTP marker, so the MP3 player will be awarded next week.)
Caris Power called and informed me we will have food on July 12th! Also, players have begun to get together and will likely be forming food donation groups of their own and donating food soon! Hang in there, we will have food yet!
OK, I think that's enough exclamation points, here are the results:
You will note I have brought back the stat from 2008:

I have a question: I have an Average score of 36 and a handicap of +4.57, Jacob Rogers has an Average score of 35.5 and has a handicap of -.10, can you explain how that works? Am I missing something?
Thanks

Nope, I am. Data entry screwup. I really mangled the initial handicap this year, but I already figured out how I will fix it (by automating it) by next year. Sorry for the errors, and thanks again for double-checking.
Jacob Rogers' correct handicap after week 3 is 4.97.

Thank you for your patience. I have updated the spreadsheet, and partially automated the Initial Division Handicap and Bump System, to speed data entry, increase initial handicap accuracy, and reduce errors.
I double checked the starting division of every player with any weeks played in 2010. Most did not change, but of those that did, mostly got a higher (harder) initial handicap. The main mistakes were that I did not inform the check-in staff to quiz for divisions, and that there were a number of players from the prior year that did not have the 1.5 shot bump added to their initial handicap. Some players had played the last 2 years, and so got their handicap from 2 years ago plus 1.5 plus another 1.5. And still some other players had played in a higher division in a tourney outside of League, thereby moving themselves up in League automatically. I REMIND YOU ALL that once you have 2 weeks played, your initial handicap and division are NO LONGER RELEVANT, and your handicap is based on scores alone. You will note the new columns:
2009 Division (might have a Div, or Div+1.5)
2010 Division (now must be Nov, Int, Adv, or Pro)
2010 Bump (now includes +1.5 shots for each consecutive prior year played, through 2008)
I did NOT go back and update the week 2 or week 1 results: it is too much work. Changes in payout will NOT be paid out (they would be minor) nor collected. The week 3 results are official. Any discrepancy between week 3 and prior weeks will default to the week 3 results now posted. Please check for errors, and report anything you see right away!

Week 7 was another outstanding week of Lunchtime League. Ten players arrived via the DiscVanGo bus! We had another banner turnout of 77 players. No one hit an ace, so the ace pot for Week 8 will start with $58.00 in it, plus a bounty: $25.00 gift card from Next Adventure! Also, we have a CTP prize donation from Tyler Sherman (handmade Kompact Kite!)
Jason Lewis had a fantastic round of 37, which when paired with his starting division of Novice gave him the outright win (32.20 adjusted, $49.00, 77 pts.) by a 2-adjusted-shot margin! However, in an excellent show of sportsmanship, he moved himself up to Intermediate promptly following the awards. This slid him to 3rd place (35.40 adjusted, $22.00, 75 pts.), still a very solid finish for a player who self-reportedly had never played Lunchtime, had not played in tournaments, and typically shoots over par at Dabney and Timber. As always, he is not compelled to return the extra prize money, but he may elect to do so if he wishes. You will see the posted results have been adjusted, and 2 players have money coming:
David Babuka moves from 2nd to 1st (34.20 adjusted, $49.00, 77 pts.), and collects an additional $19.00 (on top of the $30.00 2nd place money he was not there to collect)!
Ali Zuhairy moves from 3rd to 2nd (34.40 adjusted, $30.00, 76 pts.), and collects an additional $8.00!
There were continued challenges with regards to initial divisions, and players with the same first name and last initial. To that end, we will implement a policy of recording the first TWO Letters of each player's last name on the starting board and score cards. Additionally, here is a restatement of the starting division policy, which is not a perfect system, but we are always trying to keep it as fair as possible:
"Starting division is the most-skilled division in which you have ever played any disc golf tournament, no matter how small.
If you have never played any tournament, select from NOV, INT, ADV, PRO based on your average scores at Lunchtime (adjust + 4 shots for short to long tee pads):
well over par = NOV (-4.8 shots)
slightly over par = INT (-1.6 shots)
slightly under par = ADV (+1.6 shots)
well under par = PRO (+4.8 shots)
If you have never played Lunchtime, apply the same guidelines to scores at moderate difficulty courses like Dabney, Timber, or Pier. Adjust by 1 division down for easier courses like Orchard, Rockwood, Leverich, Highland, etc.; one division up for harder courses like Milo, Meadow Ridge, Trojan, Hagg, etc."
And again will I remind the you all that starting division is meaningless once you have played 2 weeks; after that point your handicap is based solely on your scores at Lunchtime League.
Here are the links to the results on my Comcast site, provided for those who cannot access them from the Yahoo group for any reason:

Please report any mistakes you may see right away, and feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. As always, I thank you for your player support, without which Lunchtime League could not exist. I would also like to thank the volunteers who helped out: anyone who assisted in any way, and especially Jordan Lewis, Sam Gibson, and David Zimmerman, whose help was instrumental - THANK YOU!

That must be a different Sam Gibson. There's the one that seems to win a lot of tournaments and then there's the one that plays LL. Judging from results this can't be the same player.
Or maybe it just looks that way because LL doesn't have a Masters division to hide in.

The trophy prizes for Lunchtime League 2010 have begun to arrive, and WOW, LL has outdone itself AGAIN! I didn't think it was possible, but the functional, artistic, locally handmade trophy prizes for this year are AMAZING! I projected an unprecedented $800.00 for the fund this year, and I thought we could never top last year, when the 1st place prize was a real portable DGA Mach III with custom graphics, but we have done it again! You will be amazed! As usual, we never reveal what the actual prizes are until the final day, and they are different every year, but believe me, if you finish in the top 10, you will win a beautiful, unique, unforgettable keepsake to hand down among the generations!

The season was a success, and thanks go out to everyone who donated CTPs, including Next Adventure! Also, instrumental was all the help from players like Sam Gibson, David Zimmerman, Chris Graham, Jordan Lewis, and many more: thank you all!
37,278 shots were thrown! Wow, I'm tired.
PS: I would love to see as many photos as possible of those trophies... I forgot to take any.
