View Full Version : Pro Only B tier - June 19-20

YO TEAM!
I just confirmed June 19 and 20 as the next dates for a tournament. Since there is an Am only event at Hyzer Pines, us Pro's have nothing to do that weekend. So I am running a Pro Only event! Its a B Tier, which means minimum $500 added to the pro payout (meaning roughly a $300 first place prize).
I was looking on the calendar, and I am only playing one sanctioned event in June (Pro weekend at Hyzer Pines). First weekend in June is the Am Fling at which I am volunteering/vending. Next weekend is Whistlers Dubs! Next weekend is open, then the last weekend is Hyzer Pines. Since I am fully committed to Disc Golf this season, I had a problem with only playing one sanctioned event during one of the nicest months of our year.
Only potential conflicts is a C tier in Auburn, and the Junior Clinic at Riverside. Don't worry Chris, I'll send up some discs to help the cause! But in my selfish desire to play golf as much as possible, I feel compelled to organize a tourney.
I am still lining up potential sponsors. For a small fee of $500, any business interested can become the title sposnor. Meaning the event will be called "Your Business Here" Open, for just $500. Any other sponsorships are encouraged.
Biggest quesion: where to play? Waterloo is a prime candidate, Cottage Grove might be fun too. We play Adair so much, it would be nice for a change of pace. I am willing to play anywhere that 1. Doesn't need a lot of maintanence. 2. Doesn't requre to be reserved, or at least is cheap to reserve. 3. Everyone else wants to play there as well.
Open to suggestions! Pros, mark your calendar - June 19, 20th, PDGA B Tier
Thanks,
Dion

Waterloo is a great idea.

I love it. B-tier is awesome. Scheduling is awesome. Not at Adair is awesome.
Good Call Dion.
I'll be there as long as my work schedule allows me.

Awesome idea Dion! How about we play the next best course in Oregon....you know which one I am talking about :) It's Kinda' close to the Highway, kinda' close to a Brewery, nestled beautifully in the Willamette Valley...

Bryant is certainly on the table. It is getting TeePads too, which is awesome. I haven't looked into how much it costs to reserve Bryant, or if that is even possible with the amount of use the park gets (a lot). I also can't play Calapooia Classic again this year (my brother got married last year, now my other brother is getting married this year...), so Bryant would be cool.
I also am thinking about Trojan. one of my favorite courses, secluded location. Anyone know off the top of their head how much it costs to reserve, or if that would even be required?

Trojan does not charge but you have to talk to who ever it is that is in charge. Jordan Lewis (Sausage Fingers) can assist you with that.

Cottage Grove is also in the running for sure. I really like that course, and I bet we can alter it enough to make it really challenging.
Chrestman? What does it take to reserve the course?
Also - we can do split venues...one course one day, another course the next. I am planning this to be a four rounder, so we will get lots of golf either way!

Oh Matt, I am the KING of one day events.
I've probably run 20 events, 6 of them alone this year, all being one days. There will be more one days in the future, I promise :)
If you can only make it one day, you are still welcome to play or just come out and join a card.

You don't have to be pro. Although that's what we typically call the Open field, it is just that - open. Anyone can play.

I gotta vote for Trojan. None of the entry money has to be spent on park fees. Trojan is looking awesome lately, it's an awesome summer course.
With a few tweaks, the course can be very challenging.
Lengthen 7, 11, 12, 15, and 18. 13 and 14 are still in the long placements.

Tojan is out unfortunately.
Right now the leading option is split days between Waterloo and Bryant. The second leading option is all Waterloo, the third leading option is all Bryant.

Yikes, Bryant is looking sketch...
Waterloo on Saturday, as was the plan anyways...
Sunday might be a toss up. Adair is a good standby if Bryant is dried out yet. Maybe four rounds at Waterloo, but I was hoping to mix it up.
About 5 paid entrances, only 20 shirts left for the taking. Did I mention KEEN kicked in THREE pairs of shoes? 1 for the winner, 2 others up for grabs, maybe one for an ace or something fun like that!
Thanks KEEN!

Certainly. The only drawback is that picking shirt sizes and colors is done by who registered first. Morning signups get last pick :(

This was such a fun event. Thank you Dion for running it. This was my first pro tourney (I know Matt its about time) and what a fun one to start on. The guys I played with we're all great and the lunch by Kirk's mom was a blast. It was kind of hard to leave lunch to go play more golf but we did and I was only 21 strokes out of a tie for first when it was all over. If I only Could have made one more putt I would have been 20 strokes out dang so close. Thanks again Dion and all the players what a great time.
Oh and the 18 player elimination match for the shoes was a blast.

Kirk won the side game for a pair of Keens, 18 person sudden death playoff starting on hole 1. Best score from each hole advances. Only six players birdied hole 1, all of which birdied 2. Kirk hit a 40ft putt down the slope on 3 for the solo bird and a shoe voucher! Congrat Kirk :)
Congrats to Jeff Hagerty for getting a hole in one on #3! One of the better aces at Adair! Won himself a Keen Backpack.

That's a fun format. It works well with doubles - more players move to the next hole. I think it is called a "horse race".
