Nate Sexton
May 7th, 2010, 02:20 PM
Hey Everyone,
As part of my disc golf class at Oregon State University I am bringing in Ken Climo, Dave Feldberg, and Avery Jenkins for a skins game at Willamette Park DGC in Corvallis. The game will be at 2:30pm on Tuesday May 25th. Anyone who is interested and able to make it down is welcome to come and watch. Should be a fun and intimate setting to watch some of the game's greats. Hope to have a nice crowd on hand for the event.

Cool news! I'm kinda surprised you're going with Willamette over Adair--is that just because it's closer to the school? Any way we can ship Tennessee down to take some video footage? :D

Nate Sexton

Willamette is closer to the school, better for spectators, and better for skins in my opinion.

Yabut I would LOVE to see those guys tee off @ 18 Adair.
But overall, ya Willamette is better for spectators.

I am off work that week. I think I might be able to make it down from PDX if anyone wants to carpool.

Nate, are you the fourth?

Nate Sexton
May 9th, 2010, 12:56 AM
I have not decided who the fourth player will be yet. Ideally I would've liked Val Jenkins as there are 6 women in my class of 25 and It would be cool to have the #1 women's player in there. Alas, she cannot come. I will be looking around for a 4th player to fill out the group, if I can't get anyone more big time than myself then I might play.

Nate, you are "big time". I would love to see you crush Climo, Feldberg, and Jenkins on your home course. That being said, getting to watch a seasoned female pro like Val would be awesome. Thanks for setting this up.

There are a few other good female players on the west coast, what about them, Melo, T-Bell, Haley are a few good Women players? Just an idea... Doesn't have to be the 4th player but still nice to get top women there and present the Women's side of the sport to the female students in your class?
Wish I could go, moving officially the 28th...

What an awesome and unexpected event!! Way to go, Nate. I actually think that with Nate's home course advantage, I might pick him as my favorite to win...if he played. So Nate, I understand that it's a class and all (hence the 2:30 start), but is there no chance you can do it in the evening so more people like myself could make it?

Nate Sexton
May 9th, 2010, 08:17 PM
Nope the time is set. The players don't want it any later because they want to get up to Milo asap afterwards. Also I want my class to be there, and some other classes are taking field trips to see the game. Gotta take some vacation time and come down!

Wow, what a week it is going to be. Ken, Dave, and Avery Skins on Tuesday, meet and greet with Ken and Dave at Next Adventure on Wednesday, free Clinic at Milo with Cale, Jay Reading, Liz Carr, and Dave on Thursday, Pro NT begins Friday. Did I mention WOW? :yay:

Did you hit up Doss? Apparently those four guys are playing a $2k skins match at Delaveage before the Master's Cup. Rematch potential and side bets abound!

The money will be pretty small potatoes unless somebody wants to pony some up. Would be great to have someone there filming, I welcome any and all to do so if they would like. Doss and Val were invited but could not make it.

There is a major thread drift involved with that comment...

That being said, since Val couldn't make it Melody King wouldn't be a bad option. Feldberg seems to like to involve her in everything he does, and she is on the bubble of top pro women.

As someone else said, Haley Konrad is bad ass. At least from what I saw in Tennessee's doubles video :D

Not that I'll be able to make it down there (hoping for some good video footage though!), but I think it'd be cool to see someone we don't normally get to see in our neck of the woods. Cale, Barry, E Mac, and Rico are some names that come to mind.

Actually, upon further reflection, I think it'd be great to see Nate in the mix. Climo's already an out of town "celebrity", Dave and Avery have probably played the course before, but they're still pretty much out of towners. I think Nate being the homegrown local pro, teeing off with 3 world champs would make for some very fine viewing indeed. Do it up, Nate!

And hell yeah, Mat, glad you're makin' the trip!

so i want to know...

what was your favorite shot of the day from the pros?

mine was the very last throw, Feldberg crushed hole one through the skinny route on the right. DAMN!!! dont know what disc he used, looked like the Eco Star Destroyer though... someone correct me.

I think Dave usually throws a green Eco-Xcaliber. Just a guess, I wasn't there to see it (unfortunately).

I think Dave usually throws a green Eco-Xcaliber. Just a guess, I wasn't there to see it (unfortunately).

I believe that is correct, throw was money skipping long with the 30' putt nailed in the deep right position.
Avery crushed 18 also with an Echo-XCaliber 20-25' long in the deep position, he canned the putt.
Two best drives of the day IMO.

Match started on #2 finishing on #1.
Other sick drives
Avery with a monster turnover on #3 ended up 40-50' right past pin high.
Avery with a forehand crush on #5 30-40' deep.
Kenny with a laser straight at #13 to 15'.
Kenny taking the narrow inside route on 14 with an Aviar to 10'
Dave with a sweet turnover on #17 to 10'

Thanks Nate for setting this up and thanks to Ken, Dave, Avery & Phil for stopping in Corvallis.

By the way the rain started lightly on hole 16 and really waited to intensify until the match was done.

David

The event was a great success! There were over 100 people in the gallery at its peak and the rain stayed away for the most part during the round. Afterwards the players signed tons of autographs under the picnic shelter and answered questions. Thanks to some generous last minute donations from Greg Johnson, U of O disc golf club, and Richard Raymond we were able to get to $15 a hole for all 18.

Avery - 11 skins
Kenny - 5 skins
Dave - 2 skins
Phil - 0 skins

Thanks everyone for coming out and supporting the event and the OSU disc golf class. Hope to do it again next year....bigger!

At the same time it is the root of its own evil. Eventually the price will not be for Free so enjoy it when it still feels like grass roots type of fun! I like grass roots myself but understand the corporate push eventually.

Do something like they did at whiners and give the spectators a chance to play by buying a raffle ticket. This will generate more funds and most likely get more heads out to watch.

This is a much better idea than directly charging spectators.
