Hello Everyone,
As you know, I've been extremely busy playing and running disc golf events this year. I've been in contact with the Tournament Directors of the traditional Oregon Series Events and have solidified plans for an Oregon Tour in 2010! This year is starting small and will act as a learning platform to base a bigger and better tour on next year!
Oregon Tour 2010:
McIver 3PO
Great Northwest Open
Beaver State Fling
Pine Jam at Hyzer Pines
Rose City Open
Calapooia Classic
Eugene Celebration
Willamette Open
Prizes will be handed out at the Willamette Open this year, to the top three finishers in each division. Pro and Advanced players need to attend at least FIVE events (best five will count towards final points standing) The rest of the divisions will only need FOUR events, since they only have seven events offered to them.
Much more info will be published soon, as well as the results for the first two events!
Thanks everyone who will be attending events this year! Also, I appreciate the patience and understanding in regards to being a bit behind on this announcement!

Dion it looks like FM1 is not being offered at the Pine Jam according to the sign up page. Will this mean one only needs to attend 4 events to qualify in that division as well?

If there are 4 FM1 players wanting a division, I am quite sure we can "fit you in" at the Pine Jam.

Dion:
You may have already addressed this somewhere else, but I was wondering if you have a formula for scoring.
I'm guessing too that PGM won't be offered at all events, so will PGMers have to attend fewer tourneys to qualify?
Thanks for making this happen.

I would say at least half the tournaments that the "rare" divisions are made possible?

All divisions are offered when it comes down to it. If not enough "rare" competitors sign up in that division or alert the TD that they are wishing to play in that division then it is not on the TD to fill those spots.
Ruling is: at least 4 events to qualify. If that doen't happen, then it really wasn't much of a series then was it?

Dion,
I wandered into my history and spent some time looking at past series records on the 09 site.
Hopefully all that historical information will be saved- and as the new series-master you seem to have elected yourself.
Thank you for taking the reigns and turning the events into a series again.
Is it now officially ALL divisions that need FOUR events to qualify?

No, not sure where you pulled that from...
All Pro and all Advance divisions: 5 of 8 events to qualify. Best 5 count towards final standing.
Every other division: 4 of 7 events to qualify, best four count towards final standing.
Trophies this year may be custom polos or dry fits from paragon...

I figured you probably meant "rare" divisions, but that isn't the way I read it the first time. "at least" left you some wiggle room.:D

Things are coming together for the series this year, we are about half way through! Results will be up pretty soon, Mike Phillips just needed some down time from the BSF, but he'll have it up soon.

I HAVE THE POINT TOTALS FOR THE SEASON SO FAR! I will be working on finding the best possible way to get them online (any suggestions?) so that folks can see where they stand and get pumped about the exciting three tourney finale coming up!

I can't tell you guys how incredibly busy I am with the Willamette Open and all that. Good news is I'm leaving Oregon for a week, and won't be back till the 31st of August.
I am updating the point totals to include the Calapooia, but chances are you guys won't see them till after I get back from New Jersey.

Dion already knows how I feel about this as I asked for the results & standings after the Rose City. As a TD I wanted players to see who's on first etc before the Calapooia Classic. I feel it is my obligation to try and provide this if they are paying for it. I hardly expected to see nothing to date.

Yep, it might be that I just took on too much this year. Between touring and running events I have not been able to adequatly fullfill my obligations as OT Coordinator. I'll gladly refund the clubs that put up money for the season payout. Actually makes my life a lot easier, and the clubs get a $100 refund to put towards their events next year. I'll still try to update the points, just cause I am curious...
And Dave, I honestly don't remember you asking me for the points. And we have talked like 10 times since the RCO, why didn't you remind me?

This year was just a trial run for me to see how feasible it was to organize a tour, but I guess I'm just not cut out for it. OK by me, gives me more time to focus on the State Coordinator spot anyways. A responsability I intend to do a kick-ass job at.

Well, do what you gotta do Dion, but now some other people are going to be disappointed, of course. I appreciate everything you're doing in Oregon and look forward to your tenure as State coordinator, but I'd also like to see the "Oregon Tour 2010" idea come to fruition, even if the points are late.

I’m not saying pull the plug on the series this year. I have the money the CC committed to the series for Dion.
It’s my sense that only those players ‘in the know’ are the ones that know this is happening. Maybe they would be the only ones playing enough events to qualify anyway… To help promote the tour and all the events participating, I was hoping for more communication to the players so that there might be some kind of ‘buzzz’ about it. It could have helped further generate interest from players that don’t know about the tour or wondered if it was even happening. I know there was that certain ‘buzzz’ with the former series and I would like to see if we can generate it again with the new tour.
I have a ton of respect for all that Dion is doing to promote disc golf and have been there to help him out. I will continue to help him out wherever I can.
Cheers

I see it as Dion trying to keep some sort of a series alive for our state....and then people are complaining because information isnt getting out as quickly as they would like it too.
Sounds like a few complainers should step up and offer services to our "soon to be coordinator" so he can move on to bigger and better things.

"I see it as Dion trying to keep some sort of a series alive for our state....and then people are complaining because information isnt getting out as quickly as they would like it too."
First of all everyone commends Dion for trying to keep a fun series alive. I know it's hard work just running one event let alone stitching together a series some how. Props to Dion for the work he's done this year.
But...He volunteered to do the job. I'm sure that even Dion will admit that it's been to long without any information and if he were in our places he'd probably be a little mad at the Series Director, too. And there are only 2 events left in an 8 tourny series!! When is it to soon to ask for some info?!?
Part of being good at anything is knowing when to ask for help. There are plenty of people that are willing but none of them can read people's minds. Dion's not the only busy disc golfer, you know?
I still respect Dion a ton! I'm sure he can bring the Series back on track!!

Well, except that none of that really happened you have a point. People should, would and could help and probably will when it's asked for. It's mid August and one TD who works directly with Dion and agreed to fund payout for the series expressed some constructive, mild disappointment. Then several other people expressed general support and admiration for Dion's work and also stated they'd still love for there to be a Series this year.
Seems like pretty good use of the forum to me. :dancing:
Dion's gonna do what he needs to do and there are no real upset people out there, or complainers. As Dave pointed out, not many people even realize this was a possibility. And as far as I can tell everybody looks forward to Dion's term as coordinator.

Not entirely sure how accurate this is, as I was inputting the scores from Calapooia some of the formulas in the spread sheet weren't popping up. I'll work on the issue, but from I can tell this should be pretty close. Nate and I are essentially tied with two events to go, when we both drop our BSF score (which is currently in our sum of five) I'll gain two points back on him. Battle to the finish!

Everyone,
I think its time to come clean and save Dion the lambasting he doesn't deserve. I agreed to help Dion this year on the Oregon Tour Points but had to bail due to life events and prior engagements. I tried to get the points together in a spreadsheet that was pre-setup so that Dion would only need to add the points from the remaining events before I had to leave for China on work. I did not post the points because I was not sure how Dion wanted to handle that portion of it. Since returning I have no time for disc golf outside of a casual round or two with friends.
You can post the results on Google Docs but you will need to split the spreadsheet up due to the upload size requirements.

Current OT standings as of Calapooia Classic:

$800 from the 8 events will be distributed 50% to the Pros for cash payout, and 50% to the Ams for trophies. This was agreed upon by the TDs. Trophies are most likely going to be custom printed Paragon Polos. I may have an example of one in the next few weeks. Only divisions with qualified participants recieve payout/trophies. Top three places get paid, if less than three people qualified, then only those qualified receive prizes.

All Points are now updated online, follow the links above in Dion's post to get to them.
We have tight races in almost all Divisions but none closer than Nate and Dion battling it out for MPO #1, a merely .03 points separates these two Battle Dogs. They have gone at it all year & in years past, and this year will not disappoint. Looks like this years winners will once again need to defend their positions at the WO!
If you are not going to the Willamette Open then you might want to reconsider. I mean this is the ultimate test, can Dion fuel enough energy to run the event and make up the .03 points to edge out Nate as the top Dog. Will Jeff cox over take Jeff Hagerty as the numero uno master player, Jeff Hagerty has been a top the points leader all year but Jeff Cox just hasn't had the events to qualify. If he plays at the Willamette Open(not currently signed up) and finishes in the top 5 he will most likely take home the trophy. Will Sam "Portland" Gibson hold on for his first Oregon Tour Victory or will Tom "Spoiled Your Plans" Dooley edge him out for top Dog. If Tom finishes with a 1st or 2nd place and Sam does no better than 6th then Tom may be smiling all the way to the podium. Or is the real winner hidden behind #163, he also has a great year going and also has 2 victories to his name this year, if he unmasks one more at the WO then he could edge out Sam and Tom for the winners circle. Then there is the battle in ADV men, Nate Bush is knocking on the Door of Zaq Jones looking to climb into the the top spot on the podium. Nate has had a great year with only one mark on his play and if he finished better than he did at the GNO he may just grab 1st, but don't count out Mister Jones, he has had a great year as well and seems to excel in the clutch. He will surely put up a solid fight at the Willamette Open and I expect him in the mix. If Zaq wins the WO Nate Bush has to finish worse than 6th for Zaq to be named your 2010 Oregon Tour Advance Men's Winner. In Advanced Women Cindy McMahan has a comfortable lead heading into the WO with her worst finish being a 4th place. Cindy has moved up to Advanced Women this year from Masters Women ( I consider this a move up considering the level of competition) and clearly has the competition in her sights, it does not appear that she can be beat unless she completely falls off her game and one of the ladies in 2nd or 3rd place take home the victory. The real battle however will be for second place between Chris "Has anyone seen my Laboratory" Brow and Sarah "Home Turf" Johnson. These two ladies are only separated by a few points and the WO will determine who gets 2nd place and who gets number 3rd place.
If you have not signed up for the Willamette Open get on it! The Willamette Open will close out the Oregon Tour year and typically is the door closing on summer golf with the Hab/Rec the following weekend leading the way into the Fall and Winter Golf seasons.

Everyone missed at least one. I am the only one who didn't miss two. Thinking about the legendary players in our division who play in so many tournaments, that is a victory in and of itself.
Reichard will only finish with 4 events. Jesse will finish with 5 but is more than 100 points behind, so statistically eliminated.
Mike nailed it. You are in it with an 8th (or, 93.60 points) to drop. If you win, you get 100 points which will give you +6.4 points, or 493.11 points. I am sitting at 489.93 with an 8th (or, 94.81) to drop. I would have to finish no worse than 6th - and maybe even 5th, really, since there is more than a point between our scores that we would drop - in order to pick up enough points (3.18 points to tie) to retain first. If you win, I had better be second... and Reichard and Grasseth and Elliot and a whole bunch of people could put a serious kibosh on that.
And the 163? He went +1, -3 at Willamette last year - the course that will do him the most favors as it is very lefty friendly. I went -2, -3 and would have won... Advanced... had it not been for Jason Hill and the heavy bags of sand he forgot to put in his bag that weekend. :whistler:

Yes, but you've only played 3 in your division (MM1). Playing MA1 at the Pine Jam hurt your series results, as you won't have played enough to qualify. However, you WON that tournament, which is the cooler accomplishment in my opinion. Which makes me ask the question...why play masters at all when you kick so much ass?

It's a tough decision since I enjoy the guys in Adv Masters more than any other group of players. Every tourny is like seeing long lost friends again and that's one of the reasons I enjoy tournys so much. The money players are a bit more intense and more focused on their game, and that's great, but it's not for me.

With a very few exceptions, this is most definitely NOT the case in Oregon MPM. Sure, focused on the game, but very few testosterone issues and all in all a GREAT group of people to play with. You and Sam and some other advanced Master's guys could be playing MPM, striving to improve, and would be very competitive when playing well. We could have some even more fun, bigger MPM fields in Oregon if a few of the best advanced masters guys would join us.
I think you'd find the MPM fields more fun, less of the "bad" intense, and more relatable than the average MA1 field. And you could win some cash money instead of yet more discs. :whistler:
I'm not calling you baggers (right now) but since the issue of changing divisions and who is fun to play with was raised......there's my plug to grow the MPM field with fun guys to play and compete with.

I'll let Mike make those few small revisions to the final standings before we announce the official winners, but it looks like not much will change.
The Polo's for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be made by the same company that made the shirts for the Willamette Open (Paragon Disc Golf Apparell). The Women can chose the female polo style if they would like. Once the winners are announced, we'll need to get in contact to figure out the shirt details (style of shirt, size, color...) and then it will be a few weeks to process the order.
If any of the tour winners are going to be at Hab/Rec, then would be a great time to get a hold of me and give me the appropriate info, otherwise feel free to send me an email at dionarlyn@gmail.com

Willamette a right handed course?
Holes that favor a left hander; 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18..... hmmmm... ;)
