View Full Version : Stealing... Will it stop?

This morning when I left for work I discovered that EVERY single disc that was in my yard, including a 100 or so lost discs from the course(that were in rubbermaid bins on the patio), were stolen during the night. I do not understand the need to steal. Mark puts so much into this sport, the club, and the course, and weather or not you like him personally is not the issue here. Stealing over a thousand dollars worth of plastic is just plain wrong. I am saddened to think that someone who I have opened my home to, and welcomed might have done this. Nothing else was stolen, so it must be a golfer, as there were items worth more next to the discs. So please keep a tight grip on your plastic and be careful who you trust. I am still in shock and can not believe that someone would do this. Many discs do have Marks name on them and if you see anyone with one of these discs please let us know. There was enough stolen to file a police report, so any help we can get would be appreciated. I will post the officers name and number so you may contact them directly with information. I just started playing again and now I am wondering why.

Bummer, but I dropped a dog leash and 2 collars on a course, and no one turned them in, dog collars for pete's sake! Again, really sorry this happened; keep an eye on the courses and craigs list.

I would also talk to the owner and cashiers of the local PIAS and show them how you mark your discs. I believe some PIAS won't take discs with ink because so many of them are stolen. With that many disc they're probably looking for cash.

Truly sorry for your loss. Even worse since you both seem like people that dedicate and educate people on the wonders of disc golf.
It's crap like this that makes people bitter. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can't turn a jerk into a nice guy but you can definitely turn a nice guy into a jerk. It's this sort of thing that will always end up doing it too.

That's reprehensible. Stealing discs right out of a person's yard--and likely it was someone who would have previously been considered a friend. Anybody that is that ethically deprived wouldn't have any qualms stealing from a course either, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if these were the same assholes that stole the baskets earlier. I hope someone's able to track these d-bags down AND press charges.

Steilacoom. Mark is the president of the Tacoma club, which makes it that much shittier.

What sucks worse is that I lived in Tacoma for 2.5 years and had no idea there was a club - I just tended to Fenwick because I got a weird vibe at Steilly the couple times I went (it was around the time that the 'juggalos' were beating and robbing people in the park...)
Oh well, hope the culprits are caught and justice is meted out judiciously.

my thoughts are with you during your time of loss... that's really shitty... especially for folks who it sounds like are incredibly generous and giving to the disc golf community...

What a terrible thing to happen and what a terrible thing to do to another golfer.
Ok, so a bunch of baskets were stolen and now a bunch of discs. Same parties? How do you monetize stolen baskets and that much plastic w/o drawing attention to yourself? I've been watching ebay for the Steily baskets and now I'll start watching for local disc sales in big lots. Whoever stole these things is a serious bastard and if we are vigilant, will be caught. Personally, I think they are like most criminals, a selfish idiot. But only the dumb criminals get caught so I think chances are better that average, especially given the uniqueness of the stolen items.
Plus I think if you add up all the replacement values for the discs, it will end up being a felony. Sweet.

They could easily dive down to next adventure and sell them there too so maybe a heads up to the owners about what names might be on there or what to look for so they can get the personal info of these idiots. So sorry to hear about this, as it truly is a shame. This day and age it seems like you have to trust no one, rather than trusting everyone. Sorry man.

Yeah, they wouldn't notice if they brought them in a few at a time. I would notice the overflow though at the used rack as there are normally maybe 20 used discs on display.

not to mention it seems strange someone would steal a bunch of discs then drive three hours for NA store credit...

Wow, that really stinks! We'll be keeping an eye out for those discs up here in the Seattle area. I'll make an announcement about it at the Lakewood acepot tomorrow.

I wonder of the felon ever wonders about the exact number of people out there who want to punch them in the face. Most people probably live their lives with relatively low tallies of desired face-punchings, and outrageous acts like this theft really increase one's odds of a knuckle sandwich at some point in their life. I wonder if this person now feels just a little less unsafe in the world.

Look to the people who have been to your house, and then think who among them is new to disc golf and you don't really know. I want to believe that only some newbie who hasn't played the game long enough to develop the respect and love of the sport a long term player has would do some lame shit like that. GL catching the bastard

Yeah, some scumbag stole a bunch of stuff off of tables and out of tents down at Whistler's this weekend as well. As our sport grows we will be getting more and more d-bags hanging about. We all would benefit from being vigilant for each others stuff. Don't turn the other cheek... the next victim might be one of us.

Same park where 2 mini disc golf baskets were stolen right off the mini course. Now due to the bad act of one, all must suffer, as we can no longer risk setting up a mini course there.
Whistler's Bend seems so pristine, so remote, so idyllic; it's a true shame something like that could happen there. But when it happens on your own property, you feel even more violated.

Mark and alisa i am so sorry something like this has happen to you. You guys definitely do not deserve anything like this ever. You have given so much of your time and effort to the sport along with other members to get our great course going in the right direction.
I to have been watching ebay and craigslist ever since the baskets were stolen. Every night im on ebay anyway and now ill dedicate a little more time and effort to check other areas that these scumbags may try to may a buck or two.
Wow..........it really does make you want to beat the crap out the asshole(s).

I pity the fool who would risk an ass whipping along with banishment from these awesome social events for a few bucks or buds or whatever....and I agree with you that as our sport grows, as with any increase in human population ,you also increase the percentage of those who would steal from anyone, anytime, anyplace.....sad but true.I still consider the sport to be less inhabited by this vermin than most social functions....one of the reasons I love the sport....

I had my bag and 14 discs stolen out of my truck early this month in Duvall. I live on a dead end street and have left my truck unlocked for six years. There are local kids around, but I know them pretty well and they are not suspects. I have no idea who could have done this. I filed a report with the local police just in case. My initials LA and phone number are on every disc. 206-369-8258. People who steal just don't get the big picture in life. Stealing and littering are totally selfish acts that basically say, "fuch everybody else."

Can we have a list of some of the more noteworthy discs stolen? I bet you lost some beauts! Rat bastard(s)!!! But if someone finds one person with just one of your discs, that might be the slender thread that will unravel this nefarious crime. (Ok, so I read too many detective stories). I'm sure that most members of this thread NOTICE rare/obscure/extra cool plastic.
