Thought I'd update this post and say we still have a few spots available for the April 25th event. I would also point out in case it was not made clear that these events all stand on their own. The series is just a little something extra for folks planning to play in more than one or two events.

So if your not doing anything on that Sunday come on over to Shelton and see what we have to work with and what we've done so far. If you've been around the proverbial block when it comes to courses we would love to hear what you think about our current direction.

I can tell you that we are trying to create a course that will rank right near/on the top of everyones list of great must play courses in WA. We are hovering around par 63 with the current 18 hole layout. The event on the 25th will be par 43 per 12 holes X 3 rounds so 36 holes, par 129 for the day.

To RSVP please visit http://www.masoncountydiscgolf.com/tournament-center/mcdg-series/april-25

I don't think I can make it out the first event because I live almost 2 hours away. I do wish you guys all the best in the world, sounds like you are doing a great job. Keep being a great role model for disc golf in WA and especially on the west side of the cascades. I look forward to seeing some of you at team golf again in the winter. :)

Great first event! MCDG is a great club doing a ton of good things and their newest course is a blast to play, it's frustrating from a scoring perspective, hehe but fun. Kevin and Morgan, you guys did a good job running this event; we appreciate your hard work as good TD's are hard to come by. Keep it up! :)

Yeah, you guys did a great job and I'm really digging the course thus far. Everything seems solid out there and the big holes aren't just long, they are well thought out and challenging from start to finish. All of the holes have nice fairways (didn't see any trees that I thought needed to go) and it is already very playable for being so new. You can really see all the work being done out there - once you get regular players putting thier feet on the ground, the brush is going to clear out so quickly :)

Thanks guys and congrats to Gilberts who took home the Open division!

Thanks for coming down you two! cefire I never got to ask you how you felt about the last round from the "PRO" pads?

Also if you don't mind can you reply or PM with your Player Rating? Ineed one more for a accurate SSA. Right now with data I have I'm estimating 39 but would love to have a few more numbers to throw in the mix.

I thought the Pro tees were all excellent, it seems like you guys have done some pretty careful consideration of both different skill levels, par assignment, and overall fun design.

I had visions of Hornet's Nest in NCarolina through some portions which is really cool. Can't wait to get back there and play, long drive be damned!

Officially rating is 975, but I feel like I'm probably 5-10 points lower than that these days...

I meant to have this posted a week ago but for better or worse it's been a crazy couple of weeks!

MCDG is proud to announce the second installment of our Mason County Disc Golf Series, The Shelton Springs Spring Fling Thing (HA-HA!) We will play 2 rounds of 18 holes. 17 of these holes will be part of the final version of the Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course. Like the last event, we will have a RSVP sign-up that ensures that you'll have a spot among the 72 available spots. This might seem like over-kill, but we'd like to get everyone used to this method so we can have piece of mind if and when we do meet the maximum-player predicament. Please RSVP here:
http://www.masoncountydiscgolf.com/tournament-center/mcdg-series/may-30

We had a blast last month and we intend on keeping the good times coming. The Ace Pot is still in effect due to the fact the only Ace hit at the last event was during a playoff (yeah, that happened!). We've also listened to our players, and have created/refined holes that are more LHBH friendly. Thank you all for coming out and not only supporting us, but helping shape the Course through sound advice and an army of feet to tromp the schule.

With a few days left before our May 30th event we still have plenty of room on the RSVP list. So, if you are not playing or spectating at the BSF this weekend, come play in our little shindig. The work parties in the last few weeks have yielded a few new holes, and have evened out the Courses shot selections to include more LHBH friendly shots.

Sing-up starts at 8:00am and ends at 8:45am, sharp(sorta!).

Parking for the event will be at the Huff N' Puff Trail parking lot, directly across the street from Shelton High School. Get on Trail and head down FIRST trail on the Right. You will see the Tee for Hole 1 on the right (about a 2 minute walk). Beyond the Tee there will be an access road; go left on access road to fenced pump-house station, Tournament Central will be there.

Great tournament.....great course!!! Shelton springs is quickly becoming a favorite.........cant wait to go back and do it all again. Its a difficult course with proper pars in place........i definitely want to try and do better. I know everyone thinks they could play and score alot better than they did, but that is what the course wants you think.

Thanks to all that ran the tournament and had the course looking great. I know you say the course is still a work in progress, but it played very well and the course will eventually thin itself out over time.

Keep up the good work!!!

Big thanks to all that came from near and far to play and support Disc Golf in Shelton. Even bigger thanks to the MCDG crew for getting the Course in great shape for the Tourney; from Bake's signs, to the gallons of gas used to create some of the fairways, to the actual carrying of 18 Baskets to there respective spots, BRAVO MCDG!!!

We played 2 rounds of 18. Both rounds were par 62. These will more than likely change (one hole that was played yesterday, par 3 Hole 15, was a filler hole), but the par will hover between 61 and 64 for both Pro and Am tee's. The best round from the Pro Tee's yesterday was around par or just below, with plenty of over par rounds.

Scott Papa was the big winner shooting a bogey-free 49 the first round from the Am tee's, and he graciously used his winnings to become a MCDG Club member and donated the rest to the Club. Thanks Papa!

Thanks for the encouragement Daniel, nice Ace by the way! I know exactly what you mean about feeling how you could shave strokes of your score next time. Hope to see you there.

The next MCDG Series event will be played at the Cedar Arms DG Course, a private object Course located on the Skok River, on June 13th. MCDG will be providing baskets for this event. More information to come!

And I highly suggest that anyone that can get out there to play the event on August 1st needs to do just that. The good folks in the MCDGC have crafted an amazing course at Shelton Springs. They not only have both open and technical par threes, they have made excellent par 4's and 5's that are truly legitimate. The land they are working with is truly beuatiful in the woods and when you get to unload out in the grass field it is a welcome relief for a lot of WA golfers. The dual tees are on almost every hole and provide a great and different challenge to the course.

Bottom line, I think the only thing that I talked about with Morgan and Kevin was the possibility of removing A branch and possibly moving one basket....both things that they had already either thought about or planned to do.

This course quickly vaulted into a favoritie course status for me. I wish I lived closer than I do but I am not going to cry about it. It will take me as much time to get there as it would take me to get to Lakewood. So once the baskets are in, I know where I will be heading!

So help support the group on their quest to get baskets into what is sure to be one of if not the best course in our area. I am sure they would welcome any donation and a lot of little donations add up to baskets pretty quick. It will pay off for everyone in the end and you will help bring disc golf to a lot of folks in their area (the course is across the street from a jr high and high school and a mile from the Olympic college campus.)

Thanks for the great course, the great event and the fun of playing with you Mason county guys!:yay::yay::yay:

P.S. I love island holes, really, even yours which was truly cool, except for that one tree, bad tree.....:pullhair:

This is event number four in the series and the last chance to get your three scores from regular events as there are only three left. If you play all three of the remaining regular events and do well. You could add the scores to a strong finish in the Mason County Championship on August 1 and be the first MCDG SERIES winner.

Alright less than 30 spots remain for this event so If your thinking of attending please sign up I don't want to turn anyone away on the 18th.

Remember that while this is part of the Mason County Disc Golf Series it also stands up by itself as a fun little one day two round tournament on a FRESH NW course. We have Mach Vs on most the holes with 24 chainers for the few that are not DGA. The tee boxes while natural are flat and large 5x10-12. These tournaments are casual, laid back, and a great time.

See you Sunday the 18th, 8:00AM @ the almost famous Shelton Springs DGC.

Figure out what your doing this weekend?

Well if you haven't we still have a few spots left For the Throwdown in Sheltown. The city just mowed the open grassy areas for us and the guys are hard at work on the fairways, some of which look crazy awesome.

Final layout for Sunday puts us at par 62 and 8000+ ft for 18 holes and we will be playing two rounds so bring you walking shoes (or the shoes you play golf in). Weather man says 70 and Sunny with most the course being in the shade it should be perfect disc golf weather.

Thanks to all who made it out yesterday. And I must reiterate, HUGE THANKS to all the volunteers who've made it to our work parties. It is no easy feet to get the Course looking as good as it does, nor to maintain. MCDG, you should be proud of yourself. Also, Scott Papa, thanks for your kind words at the event during your "acceptance speech" (the words "Best Course" were thrown around), I know it means a lot to MCDG hear from someone as astute and seasoned as you that our efforts are recognized and our dream of creating something uniquely challenging and enjoyable are doing just that. Thank you.

We played 2 rounds of 18, the first round played from the Red/AM tee pads and the second round played from the Black/PRO tee pads (both pads playing par 62). We had a great mix of West Sound Disc Golfers, Steilli Crew and Teamster Oly's to go with the MCDG usual suspects. Scott Papa was the big winner, shooting a first round best of 50 from the AM pads and following it up with par from the PRO pads for his second round. Scott also donated his winnings to the Club, again, and furthered our goal of purchasing baskets to be installed as early as mid-October. Heath Kinton shot the Hot Round from the PRO pads with a 60, yeah 60 (-2), which is a Course record.

On August 1st MCDG will host the inaugural Mason County Disc Golf Championship. This event will be held at the Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course. If you are on the MCDG email list then "You've got mail!" You will be able to RSVP for this event before it is open to the general public. Tomorrow, possibly late this evening, we will open the flood gates for RSVPing. One major difference from this event and the rest of the series events is the buy-in/pay-out (the information for this will be available with the RSVP form). MCDG will be getting custom stamped discs from Discraft, which will be given to the Championship contestants. We will NOT have the discs by the date of the Tournament, but we will get them to where they need to be as soon as we get them. The Championship holds a particular significance to the Series as your finish at the Championship will be added to your best 3 finishes at our other Series events, which will help determine the Series winners.

More information to come.

we will have some extra discs no plans as of yet with them so chances are good that we will sell some custom disc outside of the Championship, maybe, or maybe we will burn them. I guess what i'm trying to say is that the only way to get one for sure is to come play on the 1st.

This was my second time playing this course and second tournament with the mason county course. WOW!!! All of the Mason county people did such an amazing job with this event! for those of you that havent been to this course and played it, i will tell you that the amount of work these guys have put into this course it nothing short of astounding.

Its like they have a bunch of wood gnomes living on the course that come out at night just to make brush disapear and fairways appear. The tournament was run very well and it had a great "FUN" atmosphere to it.

I think becca and i will be at the next one on august 1st, but if not i will deffinately want to buy one of those discs to help you guys towards getting baskets in. its super cool that its from discraft also!! :wink2:

MASON COUNTY DISC GOLF
PRESENTS ON AUGUST 1ST
THE FIFTH EVENT OF THE 2010 MCDG SERIES:
THE MCDG CHAMPIONSHIP

A two round tour de force of the almost famous Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course. We expect this to be a full course having all 18 AM tees and all 18 PRO tees. The current SSA for the par 62 PRO tees is 60, so bring your A-game.

This is event number five in the series and points earned in this event are added to your top three finishes in the regular events. That make this a can't miss event from a series stand point. This is also a can't miss event from a come out and have a good time with the MCDG crew stand point. Remember the series is supplemental to these tournaments, if you don't care about points than these are just fun, inexpensive, but still competitive way to spend a Sunday.

We will be giving out a Custom MCDG Disc to everyone who participates. We have not ordered them yet so we won't be handing them out at the event but this does mean that we can poll our signed up player to see what discs to order. So make sure you select the type of disc you want when you fill out the form below.

Current fee schedule for The MCDG Championship is as follows:
$35 Pro ($30 for MCDG club members)

$30 Am ($25 for MCDG club members)

$25 Rec/Women/Junior ($20 for MCDG club members)

We do have about 20 spots still open so be sure to sign up soon.

We have decided to do some CTPs at this event, really wanted to do a lot of other cool tournament stuff but we are so busy building the course. Plus, as of last week we have officially begun seeking out and collecting sponsors. So this tournament is going to have to be more about coming out and supporting our club and this new course... oh yea and possibly snagging the title of "Mason County Disc Golf Champion 2010"

That being said we do get things going fairly close to on time, and use our scorepoint+math skills to get everyone back one the road at a reasonable time. I thing after two rounds of par 62 golf we get done around 4:30ish.

Someday this will be an overcrowded/overhyped, sold out in minutes, A tier event, that everyone just HAS to play (at least we hope.) So this is your chance to come play while it's a laid back super fun day, that way a few years from now you can say I remember when... think about that!

Thanks to all who came out for our inaugural Mason County Disc Golf Championship. It was great to see a lot of familiar, and just as many new faces. There was definitely a communal vibe in the air. This will become the quintessential MCDG event for years to come.

We played 2 rounds of 18, the first from the AM(Red) tees and the second from the Pro(Black) tees. Each round was par 62. This is the first event where we played the Course with all 18 AM and Pro tees being used. Daniel Lilley lit up from the AM tees in the morning round with a 48(-14), a Course record. And Kenny Benjamin shot the Hot Round from the Pro tees with a 61(-1). There was excitement and drama to go around, which carried over into the 2 separate playoffs for the MCDG Champion crowns. Congratulations to the following:
Rick Bailey (Pro)- Won a 3 hole playoff against Daniel Lilley
Justin Gross (ADV)- 2 stoke win, and still the person to drive the farthest for our events (4hrs 1-way!)
Rob Daley (REC)- Won a 3 hole playoff against AJ Foster (AJ started playing 5 months ago, yikes!)

The Championship held a great significance to the MCDG Series Point Standings in that points rewarded based on your finish were added to your best 3 finishes at our other 6 monthly events. The current Point Totals are available here (http://www.masoncountydiscgolf.com/tournament-center/mcdg-series/standings). There is a chance that the current leaders can be dethroned depending on the finishes at the last 2 MCDG Series events (Aug 15th & Sept 19th). General public signups for the Aug. 15th event will open in the next few days. For those on our current email list, "You've Got Mail!"

We are currently working on obtaining funds for Baskets, via donations and a Course/Hole Sponsorship program. We have a strong lead on a few quintessential Mason County based businesses. This Sponsorship program, Disc Sales, and donation/fundraising is making the mid October time-frame for permanent Baskets to be installed a realistic goal. If anyone is interested in how they can help please feel free to contact us at:
masoncountydiscgolf@gmail.com

I'd also like to give a HUGE Thank You to the MCDG crew. It is by their blood, sweat, and yes, tears that make this Course and these events possible. Also, Thank You to Daniel Lilley, who on top of fundraising for us via disc sales, issued some excellent words in regards to the Course and MCDG during his speech on Sunday. Thank You to Eric Lund for his kind words (http://www.nwdiscgolfnews.com/forum/showthread.php?p=72055#post72055). These are the type of accolades that we thrive off of, it assures us that our vision and long-term goals are valid, very valid. Thank You to all our gracious 2010 MCDG Champions. And Thank You, dear reader, for showing interest (to read this far) and I hope to see you at our next event on Aug 15th.

Thanks to the mcdg club..........the series #5 tournament was pretty sweet. Congrats to all who manage to overcome the extreme heat and take thier divisions. I watch the news last night and notice that shelton broke the record hi with a 99 degrees. I would like to say that was the reason why i did not do so well and i am sticking to that story for sure. It was not because i got scared of a little head wind when putting or extreme early release issues. It was definitely the heat, teepads, lost disc (that i found later), lack of water, dizziness, upset stomach, crappy branches that hang down and grab your disc when it flies by, etc. Hmmmmmm......well, thanks again........it was fun. See you all in a month for #6.

Two rounds of 18 around the par 62 Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course. One round from the self esteem boosting Red tees and one round from the dream crushing Black tees. We would like everyone to be here before 8:45, Players meeting at 9:00AM. As usual we will have 3 divisions Pro, Advanced, Rec , and if we get enough Ladies they can have their own division as well.

This might be YOUR last chance to check this course out and give us your feed back before we begin placing permanent baskets. This one day, more fun than a barrel of monkey tournament, is really about coming out and breaking in our course. There will be some drama though as this is the last event of the MCDG series and there are some tight races for the folks who have made it out to enough qualifying events. One point separates first and second in the Pro division, while the advanced is a dead tie for first.

For those of you who want to come but think that some how, despite my best efforts, the fact that this tournament being part of a series excludes you, let me assure you ALL are welcome. The series is a small piece of the exciting action going on here in Mason County. Born out of necessity and fueled by the blood, sweat, and tears of a young Club, the 2010 MCDG Series was born.

Hot off the heels of Winter 2009 Team Disc Golf season, MCDG strived to continue making a name for itself by planning a Summer-long Series. Consisting of 7 non-sanctioned events (6 monthly and 1 Championship) through the months of April-Sept, the Series began to take shape. MCDG had two Aces up its sleeve: 1) the ability to plan, map, and setup a Course for a one-day event. 2) a newly approved Course (now the infamous Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course). After the first MCDG event at Shelton Springs it became abundantly clear that most events were going to be held at this location. This gave MCDG the determination to get the Course “Tournament-Ready”. Word of playing the MCDG Series at the Shelton Springs location spread among the Disc Golf community. By the third Series event, MCDG had “regulars” that traveled 60-100 miles to be there.

The MCDG Series utilized a Point Scoring system to determine overall Series winners. MCDG would like to congratulate the following:
Top 5 Pro Series winners
1. Daniel Lilley- Overall Point Leader (and Overall Nice Guy)
2. Troy Cyganowski- MCDG’s most consistent player
3. Kevin Gerlich- Overall boring play, but somewhat consistent play (sorta!)
4. Terry Surratt- Everyone’s favorite Uncle!
5. Chris Gilberts- Big-Putt Gilbey!

Top 5 Advanced Series winners
1. Justin Gross- Knows a good thing when he sees it
2. Anthony Walker- The unfounded cries of “Bagger!” can still be heard
3. Nathan Pervinich- WSDG Young-Gun. That’s enough out of you...
4. John Arrant- The 275ft assassin
5. Dustin Skantz- Big-Big-Big-Arm

Top 5 Recreation Series winners
1. Justin Holzgrove- Dominant performance by a guy with a Satchel
2. Rob Daley- Straight faced funny man/teddy bear/enforcer
3. TJ Quandt- Also drove a great ways to take part in the Series- Thanks!
4. Rich Baker- Arguably MCDG’s most improved player- Proud of You, Bake!
5. Shannon Henry- Played every single event & more often then not the only Woman

Womens Series winner
Shannon Henry- MCDG’s secret weapon

MCDG would like to thank the following:
The MCDG Work Crews, responsible for the Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course. And the MCDG Administrators, responsible for the Series events. Without your tremendous effort and hard work, the MCDG Series would not have existed:
Rich Baker, Chris Auseth, Rex Gray, Morgan Rothrock, Ray Rothrock, Jay Rothrock, Troy Cyganowski, John Arrant, Kevin Gerlich, and anyone who’s helped MCDG in creating the jewel that is Shelton Springs.

To the many who traveled, from near and far, to Shelton for the MCDG Series. Unbeknown to the participants, MCDG used the events to attract a wide array of players to help define what Shelton Springs has become. MCDG was able to communicate about the likes and dislikes of the Course, and was able to compensate when needed. The premise behind the Series contributed to helping MCDG to develop Shelton Springs Disc Golf Course, which proved to be a priceless asset. The ability to garner feedback from an assortment of players in an effort to finalize the Course as a finished product, was one-of-a-kind. Thank You, Disc Golf Community.

Scott Poppa, Daniel Lilley and Justin Gross. The Series events were designed so that if you were not a Club member, you paid a premium (aka a donation). Most did pay this premium/donation. Scott, Daniel and Justin went above and beyond this. Each became a member of MCDG. Each donated an abundant amount of their winnings back to the Club. Justin also won the “longest-distance-traveled” award to EVERY MCDG event, leaving at 4:30 am from just East of Portland OR! Scott took 1st in every event he played, setting Course records along the way, he donated all of his winnings back to the Club. Scott was also a great advocate for MCDG’s efforts by being vocal about the progression of Shelton Springs and MCDG. Daniel, the current Shelton Springs course record holder, made it to all 7 events and won the MCDG Series Overall Points Total. Daniel donated many of his winnings back to the Club, and sold fundraiser discs to help obtain baskets for Shelton Springs. Daniel was also very vocal about his appreciation of Shelton Springs and about MCDG.

There are plans in the works for another great Season of Disc Golf in 2011. MCDG looks forward to seeing you on the Course!
