On July 31-Aug 1, Western Oregon University and the University of Oregon are going to put together another fundraiser tournament.

It will most likely be a C-Tier, but we want to know what park people would be interested in playing. Milo, Pier, Adair, etc?

Let us know.
Thanks

Pier and Milo are expensive to rent. Not sure about Adair, but I think that reservation is inexpensive as is Timber and Trojan. Although Dabney is dangerous, a few tweaks could be made to make it fun. (It's free to reserve if you host a work party out there.) That's all I've got for now.

A Dabney summer tournament would be pretty fun, I've only seen one PDGA tournament at Dabney in the last few years.

This is a correct staement! Both Milo and Pier make it cost prohibitive if you have any plans to make a few dollars as a fund raiser. Timber can be reserved for $50 and Trojan is free although you have fisherman to deal with. Hornings is also a possibility but everybody needs to pay the $3 day use fee. Talk to Dion about Adair! I'd like to see more events at Willamette in Corvalis.

Waterloo is a lot of fun and could be an option as well. Willamette is a tough choice with the large amount of college traffic it gets when the sun comes out. Adair sees a ton of events and could use a break (or is it I could use a break from Adair?).

What about Keizer Rapids? I haven't even played it just a thought since it's more in your area.

Go for locations that people don't often get a chance to play.

Timberlinn in Albany can be a decent venue since there's water and a great mix of technical and open shots (assuming you lay your course out properly!)

Personally, I always love to play around the U of O campus. All the sidewalks make for lots of OB and the location is gorgeous.

To reserve Adair this year it cost $170 for the weekend. Adair is so easy to run events at, and honestly it doesn't need to be reserved for one day events or anything small. The city of Corvallis limits the number of events organized at Willamette Park, so thats why the club runs Willamette Open there once a year, and now another event like Hope Open can be there as well. Beyond that and the city freaks out...

I always forget about this place. This would be my vote due to its lack of exposure.

We definatly wanna let the portland area disc golfers play in this tournament without having to drive 2 hours. Thats why it is during summer. Also the people running the tournament would be club members from both schools who live in portland.

So sorry but the campus is eliminated for this event.
But there will be a duck chuck tourney in may, (likely on campus)

Back to this tournament: We are looking to have a big successful event that hopefully turns into an annual event to benefit collegiate disc golf as it spreads throughout the country.
With PDGA costs and required payouts, it would likely have to be at a park that is free to reserve.
So dabney sounds good for a real 18 hole course. Lunchtime is an option is town but the course is nothing special with only 13 holes (room for temp holes?) and crappy baskets that may or may not be pdga certified for a C-tier. Anyone know?

keep up the great input everybody!

My vote would be Keizer Rapids. I have really begun to fallin love with that course and it is a good central ground for everyone and located 5 miles from I-5. You would probably need to get cooperation from Capitol City disc golf club

You meant to say that some of the fauna is gorgeous.....right Jim, I never notice the surroundings down around campus.

There are surroundings down around campus? Hmmmm. That must be where the fauna goes when the fauna isn't outside frolicking in the sun.

After talking to some other people, it seems most logical to have the tournament in a more central location so supporters of WOU and UofO as well as Portland area people can all come. I don't think having it a Dabney will allow as many people to come so it looks like either Kaizer Rapids, Adair, or some course in that area.

I haven't been to Kaizer Rapids since last summer, does anyone know how it is right now as far as brush and defined fairways?

We still have tons of time and I need to talk with the guys from UofO, but it looks like Adair might be the place.

Been looking around some more and I'm liking Dabney more and more. I'll have to talk it over with UofO, but with a work party out there, I think it'll work great.

Look for more details coming soon. (Work party :yay:)

I'd love to see a tournament out at Keizer Rapids. Keizer has the potential to be a great course. It's getting more and more play which is awesome.

I work for the City of Keizer here. The course still has work to do. I think a tournament would be great exposure of the course out there. We still need to install tee signs. (eventually tee pads). I have the tee signs ready, just need the man power to install them.

Well, after looking at Sanctioning fees and whatnot, I don't think this is going to be a PDGA sanctioned event and instead of having it at Dabney, we are probably going to have it at Lunchtime since we already talked to people and they said we can use it for free. We are going to try to get some new holes in to make it a 16-18 hole course.

I hope this doesn't deter anyone from coming, we are still going to get a lot of sponsors and have a huge raffle (just like last time for those of you that were there).

Thanks, I haven't really been doing much for this tournament since it's been down graded so many times. I'll talk to Logan and see if he's still up for it.

This tournament is not going to happen. Thank you for all the support but it just wasn't going to work out this summer.

We will do a tournament sometime though. Probably in the fall.
