There is parking on both sides of Silver Lake Road. The main lot for the park is on the east side of the road. I always see cops in the parking lot , so I wouldnt recommend any " Duikes of Hazzard " driving manuevers when you arrive.

At the pre walk through L/S BA, Jim Anderson, The Captn, Drakstar, Andrew and myself familiarize ourselves with the general topography and the biggest issue of freeway distractions were discussed. The property has great potential we just need to pace ourselves and show some patience.

The good news is, I think we all agreed that a challenging, full length, 18 hole course is possible if we can utilize the areas of the park that we walked.
The option of having hadicapped access to at least a few of the holes is relatively simple to achieve at the south end of the park.
So its looking good so far, except for my island hole, which got shot down in flames. :(

I like courses like that, or Shelly Sharpe. Both make you play out over water, on your first shot, on the first hole.
No warmup, no practice, just a quick check to make sure your nuts are there, step up, and huck like your life depended on it.
Thats good golf right there.

Oh ya, I could see how torn up you were about it. :rolleyes2:
I'm still gonna work on core drilling the rock. :whistler:
Whenever there is a new course planned in this area, I only hope its another challenging layout, like Seatac. A course like Ferguson Park may seem cute and adorable to the local city planners, but I think its relatively worthless to most disc golfers.
Somebody has to advocate for tournament worthy layouts, and I'm that guy.

My daydreaming about lanes and baskets in this park started in 2007.
Today it became a reality.
Really great to see the groups progressing around the course in an orderly fashion, like we all knew what we we doing.
We freaked out some locals.
Up until yesterday, for years, they had some solitude down at that end of the park, today they had brightly colored discs flying past thier heads.
One guy looked like he was witnessing an alien landing, he was just staring, jaw dropped, at all us crazies wandering around the park.
Couple of locals saw the gate open and drove in, they had no reason to turn into the park there, but what the hell ! the gate was open, thats a good enough reason for some people in Everett, I guess.
I still cant believe John got an ace already, I mean, we don't even have the baskets in the ground yet, and the tees are still warm from being pounded.
The course is only minutes old.
Damn you.
But I did tell Jub, while we were playing, that I was waiting for the cheers to go up today when somebody got an ace, it was a nice sunny afternoon and lots of attempts were getting close as soon as we all started tossing.
I was just hoping it would be me. :biggrin2:
We had a great group out there today, I think the city was reasonably impressed with our speed and determination.
Thanks to all that came and helped.
Please be aware of the cones left in the #8 fairway to mark duck nests. Use caution here until all the little guys are hatched and waterbound, and hopefully the Killdeer will move its nest.
Mats and mounted baskets maybe ready for the long weekend :yay: break out the barby and the Aviar.

And Thomas, not to take away from your outstanding play, but I think we decided the course would be a par 24, with #4,5, and #9 being par 2.
#6 may also be considered a par 2.
So par is either 23 or 24.
There is huge potential here for long tournament length holes, I will try and perfect the " Safari " layout in the coming weeks, also , due to it being pretty much wide open, this is a perfect place for some glow golf this summer.

Seriously everyone who show today thanks for being patient early, then hard working and finished strong. Hey, that sounds like a course management strategy. The parks guys were ecstatic with the participation, the willingness to work around things and actually finishing what we all started.
Like Capn Jack said "it 's was a rush to know that 10:05 (I was slowel. but it was worth it for the three ports) this morning their was little evidence of DG at Silver Lake and then 3 1/2 hrs later 20 people were playing it." And some ace hole assed it.

These holes are less than 200' and they are ceratinly ace runs but they can also be 4's.
I would bet your
900 rated would only need 4 discs. Driver (Rt/lft) Up putter. 3 holes would be par 2 for 21 1000 2 Roc Putter 4 holes would be 2's for 19

Excellent showing from the disc golf community yesterday. It was good to see so much work getting done. Everyone seemed to be working very hard. Not many people leaning on shovels all day.
As discussed before, this will be a nice little 9 hole course. With the slopes next to the baskets, there are some "birdie to bogie" opportunities. As John (the Acehole) Stengele stated, this will be a perfect course for an Ace Run tourney.
I also agree this will be a course where people need to be on their "better" behavior. This park gets very crowded in the summer. We all need to be patient with the other park users. Adult beverages are out of the question at this park. There are always men in blue patrolling this area, so why risk it.

Excalibur @ Silver Lake Disc Golf Course
Gentlemen,
I wanted to send this thank you for your belief in Disc Golf.
I am getting all kinds of positive feedback from the 20 volunteers who attended the course installation party yesterday. All the great time saving equipment you provided sped up the process to almost light speed. Something that the community is use to being more hands on was certainly appreciated.
One of my volunteers said it best. “At 10 AM this morning Disc Golf was a dream in Everett. BY 2 PM, 20 people realized that dream as they were playing it.” We certainly got some interesting looks with all that “colored plastic flying around” The Capper was having one of the holes Aced was almost too much.
The Disc Golf Community looks forward to the development of not only this piece of property but the exposure to the citizens of Everett of the sport we love.
Thank you,
Shawn Hadley

This is true. As I stated in my first post in this thread, cops park in the lot all the time. The P&R guy also told me they have problems with people using the park for illegal activities between 10pm and 3am, so the cops patrol there.
My biggest concern is abuse or theft of the new baskets, they will need to be monitored regularily.

I looked at Forest Park , Tom.
I looked at all the parks and open spaces in Everett in 2007.
I think the large part of Forest Park, the piece north of Mukilteo Blvd. is a riparian zone, so I doubt they would let us hack in a course there.
The developed portion of the park, south of the Blvd., with its rolling landscape, would make a great place for a course, but its very crowded in there now with the current uses.
Jub had a thought he shared with me yesterday, for a place for a new course, that might be more agreeable with the city.
He knows how much I want a " Seatac North", a professional length challenging course, up here somewhere.
Looking at the "Ten Best" thread, I think I'm not the only one who would appreciate a challenging "Seatac like" layout north of downtown Seattle.

It was not just me. Erik was instrumental in it's design and flow. Thanks to everyone who helped put Excalibur on the map.

I played in the middle of the downpour this afternoon with Don and Matt and the fly pads were really grippy even with puddling water on them.
This was the first time I've played on fly pads ~ really surprised at how grippy they were even in the down pour ~ we played with only 2 discs each ~ I played a Roc and a Warlock ~ only 2 birdies but I had many birdie attempts.
The course is now listed on dgcoursereview.com ~

I think today was the first dry day since the course was installed.
There were 3 or 4 groups playing this afternoon, and the P&R guy was driving around the course like a proud new parent, explaining the hole details to some new players.
I aced #5 today. Woohoo ! :yay:
From #7 tee. DOH !
Course is almost completely dry, with only the area around the #2 basket still being a little spongey.

A group of us played Wednesday after work. I like this new little course.
To make it a little tougher, we play all pavement as OB. It added a few strokes to the score and made us change up a few shots. It's ok to go over the pavement, just not on it. I think this will be the new format with our group.
We picked up 3 adult beverage cans, but other than that the park was very clean. Please be on your best behavior at this park.

Yeah this is how I play it and how I think it should be played; screw par 2's! OOPS I just opened a can of worms...

So...would a skip off the pavement be ruled OB?

No. And the OB rule is not official, just a more difficult way to play.

Me too.
The hill drops off right behind the basket, so the ace run at basket level, if it misses, coming in right to left,is gonna sail down by the lake, but the skippy skippy takes the forward energy out of the shot, and makes the disc almost go sideways, so it sails up parallel to the path, and lands just left of the basket, if it doesnt go in.
Seems like the safer option to me.
At least its a guaranbirdie that way.
