2010 White River Spring Sling to Fight MS

After an overwhelmingly generous and positive response from the disc golf community at last years Lakewood Fall Fling to Fight MS, Team Free Beer has decided to host a charity tournament this spring. Last years tournament raised $3000 and we gave away a ton of prizes. If anyone who played last fall would like to chime in with their thoughts about what worked/didn't that would be great.
We chose the White River course in Auburn this year in order to give more players from the Tacoma area a chance to participate. If anyone from the Tacoma Disc Golf Players Association, or anyone else for that matter, would like to contribute to this event in any way please contact me. We need prizes, hole sponsors, a leaderboard, and of course players.

The tournament is scheduled for Sunday May 23rd 2010.
We did our best to select a date that wouldn't conflict with another event. Although it looks like some folks may be a the SeaTac Acepot.

This will be a non-PDGA event, registration will include a custom disc, and again 100% of proceeds will go directly to the Greater Washington Chapter of the National MS Society.

The PNW has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, your participation contributes directly to easing suffering in our community and continuing the search for a cure to this devastating illness. 1st Annual White River Spring Sling to Fight MS:
A Benefit Disc Golf Tournament May 23rd 2010
Presented By: Team Free Beer

Intentions of the Event:
1.)To raise awareness of the prevalence and impact of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in the Pacific Northwest region.
2.)To create an opportunity for individuals and businesses to contribute to an expression of support and empowerment for the many people in our community who are living with MS.
3.)To raise funds for the Washington Chapter of the National MS Society through tournament registration fees, raffles, private and corporate donations.

Case for Action:
Multiple Sclerosis is an auto-immune disease causing progressive degradation of central nervous system function. The progression of the disease over time is variable and often highly unpredictable. Some patients may live decades with minimal symptoms, while others will go from excellent health to loss of muscle control, spasms, and chronic pain in a matter of months. Currently, the medical community has a relatively minimal level of understanding of causal factors, and treatment options are limited. The Pacific Northwest region has one of the highest rates of Multiple Sclerosis incidence in the world. Many of us have friends and family members whose lives are impacted by the disease. This event is an opportunity for both the private and corporate citizens in our community to make a difference, both in the lives of community members living with MS, and their friends and families. Through our participation and contribution to this event, and others like it, we immediately and tangibly support and empower those in our community who can easily feel invisible and forgotten. We also directly contribute to the search for treatments to reduce suffering, and ultimately, to the discovery of a cure.

Logistics:
Where: White River Disc Golf Course – Game Farm Wilderness Park
Auburn, Washington
When: Sunday May 23rd 2010 10 AM
Registration: Slots are currently limited to 72 participants.
Registration Fees - $25 (additional donations accepted). All donations are tax deductable. MS Society donation receipts available on request.
Details: Tournament will have pro, am, beginner, and women’s divisions with a single round of play. Weather in May is variable. Tournament will proceed rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to bring rain gear and golf towels. Registered players will receive a custom tournament disc. Team Free Beer will host a barbeque for $5 at completion of tournament play.

Opportunity to Contribute:
The organizers of this event are committed to publicly acknowledging those individuals and corporate citizens that contribute to this event by clearly advertising our sponsors during the event.
100% of proceeds will be donated directly to the Washington Chapter of the National MS Society. Our goal is to achieve 100% sponsorship of tournament costs.


Possible Contributions:
1.)Participation as a player in the tournament.
2.)Direct cash sponsorship donations to help cover park use fees, event insurance, and player’s packages. Opportunities include Title Sponsor ($200-$400), Leaderboard Sponsor ($100), Hole Sponsor ($25-$50). Each sponsorship opportunity includes a commensurate level of advertising value.
3.)Donations of services and equipment (promotional equipment or gift certificates from manufacturers and retailers to be raffled during the event)
4.)Offers to match donations generated by the event or performance sponsorship (ie. $1 per birdie)
5.)Promotional networking via local media contacts.

I commend you for your efforts to help find a cure for MS. I have thought about doing an MS awareness tournament here in Roseburg, OR. Seeing your tournament has rekindled my desire to run one. Keep up the good work!
