Strawberry Field Sports Complex is going to have a new course put in by summer. It will be an 18 hole course designed by Lowell. Anyone know much else or got much to say on the matter? Just wondering.

Lowell e-mailed people (I'm on his list, not sure if his e-mails get to everybody) and he mentioned this, and added that this was "thanks to the" SDGC. There were no details at all, so I'm sorry I can't tell you anything further. I'm sure by starting this thread we'll hear more. I think this is awesome! Looking forward to it, and thanks to Lowell for designing it and getting another course for all of us to play. :cheerleader:

Here is a link to their website, it says 72 acres, I wonder how much involves disc golf and how much dodging we will be doing of soccer fields.

According to Map Quest it's 20 minutes from my house which is about 5 minutes closer than Arlington and 10 minutes longer than both Lake Stevens and Snohomish. Looking at the map it's more in Smokey Point than Marysville and even then it's east SP.

I talked to Lowell today. He said the course is already designed and the city is hoping to have baskets in by spring. He doesn't know an exact date yet but some info about the couse....good news this course is gonna be seatac big or bigger with 600+ ft holes. Some bad news is the city as of right now is not gonna allow cement pads it's all bark for now.

That is great news assuming these holes are not only long but well designed, which I am sure they are.

I was told by another person the other day that the holes are long yes but it's wide open. I hope not, they made it sound like a jewl on roids.

I was there yesterday, money in hand for doubles, feeling guilty after standing you guys up last week, but you were off running a tourney, so it ended up being me, and some kids running around in the field on an Easter egg hunt.

Tees need bark, 10 is unuseable,13 not much better, and the blackberries are coming in, I got the lacerations to prove it.
Water in the dip on 16, and the paths are slippery, but hey, I parked 17 for the first time with a nice FH wiggle, onward and upward. :jumpspin:

Any thoughts on the new hole location yet ?

Here's an update that Mr. Stengele keeps spamming for...:whistler:

I thought I heard it was going to be a long 18 hole course, but the article says it is only 9 holes.

I went out to the course a couple of weeks ago. I love the location because it's only about 500 feet from where the Centennial Trail ends in Marysville/Arlington (The Centennial Trail will now connect the Lake Stevens course and Marysville course with my house in the middle). However, Strawberry Fields is pretty much a wide open field. I don't think there are any trees or hills out there. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right area?

I am still stoked a new course is going in though, and I am confident Lowell can do the best with what the city will allow out there.

Looking forward to it!

There is a work party being organized this Saturday for this course to be put in to play and we need volunteers for the disc golf community to help out; here is the email that boyscout Christian Hauer sent to me today:

Hello,
my name is Christian Hauer, I'm a Boy Scout from Troop 419 in Marysville, you were recommended to me by Mr. Shawn Hadley. He told me to e-mail you and ask you if you could announce my Eagle Project to anyone who might be able to make it June 12th at Strawberry Fields (6100 152nd St NE Marysville WA 98271) for a work party to build a 12 hole disc golf course. I will only need volunteers to bring safety gear (i.e. gloves, goggles) and if equipment is available to them, shovels, rakes, and six inch levels.

Thank you,

Christian Hauer

I realize this is short notice but this is a great project that we should support.

This is also another chance to be a course record holder. I will post more info ASAP.

Can the real working man's crew from the Silver Lake Excaliber course all show up too? We need heavy machinery and lots of hands.

I wanted to thank Christian, his parents, friends, neighbors and Scout Troop 419 for working on this little piece of scenery. Yes, the course is pretty wide open Now but there are plans for adding trees and shrubs. The holes are pretty straight forward but at least there are some longer ones.

The tees are going to be interesting. Gravel filled like LSH Hopefully the gravel stays inside the frames.

I was very disapointed in the lack of community turn out. Even the project designer decided to show up at the very end (not much effort or support even from him.)

BUT
We are getting a course out of this

Timeline
Course hayed Tue/Wed
Tees will be finished by the end of the week
Baskets assembled by then also

First proposed event is two weeks from Thursday 7/22

I would like to thank Mr. Jub for being at the work party on the 10th! I actually need help on the 17th because we will be putting up tee signs, "planting" the main sign, and putting the baskets togethor. So if can plan for it that would be great!

This course is in. There are 12 holes, one for each part of the Boy Scout Law (trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent). The holes are long and open. Given the lack of obstacles, a pitch and put would probably have been more appropriate. Folks I met out there we complaining about losing discs in the tall grass. Christian did a great job of coordinating the installation of this course.

Yes, Christian did do a great job with all the info avaialble to him. It's just too bad his main DG resource was so (lowell) lame.
