View Full Version : 3 Discs - Anywhere, Anytime, Any Conditions

Jerry R
September 2nd, 2008, 07:58 AM
I've started riding my bike to work and am limited in the number of discs I can carry. I usually play DG on my lunch hour. I'm carrying a 172G DX Gazelle, 168G 11X Roc, and a 168G DX Aviar P&A. I chose these because of their versatility. So...if you could only choose 3 discs to play with for any conditions, what would they be?

For me, it would have to be an Avenger SS FLX (171g), a CryZtal Z Buzzz (174g), and my trusty 175g DX XD. There have been rounds where these were the only discs I threw. A 175g ESP Comet could taket the place of the Buzzz, but I prefer the Buzzz, still.

It's a pretty good combo. After thinking about it, I could almost do without the Roc if I had a Wizard. I use the Wizard in many situations that I used to use the Roc in. It's also a great putter.

Well, Snap, I did post my three earlier, and, since you brought it up, I thought I'd see what they were.

I would still choose an Avenger SS, though the weight and plastic would be different - 174g Elite Z. I would still take the CryZtal Z Buzzz (though since it was a gift, I might switch it out with the 174g FLX Buzzz if I were playing at a course where I might stand a chance of losing one). The main difference is that I shelved the previously trusty XD, and am now using a 175g Organic Wizard. That thing has been nothing but money for me. Now, if only I could find two more at 175g - nobody seems to have them!

I would take three drivers, three mids, and three putters, anywhere, anytime, any conditions.

Drivers: a 150 DX Destroyer, my Champion Monarch, and my 167 Cartman dye Star Wraith.
Mids: two FLX Buzzzes with different levels of stability and my FLX Surge.
Putters: my go-to 167 Rattler, my Ju Ju for annies and 40+ footers, and my 4X Aviar-X for 60+ footers and approaches where the Buzzes are too long.

Though it would be sad to leave my favorite disc behind, my Z Extreme, if I had to pick three to play best in any condition it would be:

166 X Avenger, nicely seasoned, great for long hyzers, flippy enough for S turns and even rollers.
172 ESP Buzz, my main mid-range already
175 D Soft Magnet, already my disc for everything 200' and in.

Hey Dave, was that run one of the numbered runs?:pirate:

These two have the 2002 National Doubles Stamp (Texas April 02?) and were probably stamped in Feb/March 02, with the discs most likely molded sometime in 01 is my best guess. They have held up incredibly well inspite of numerous tree hits (Adair, Dexter, Simpson, Willamette) and have a great feel. :bowing: The 169g has been in a box for a couple years but still has been thrown plenty over its life. I'm pretty fond of both of them and they don't get thrown on mountain courses or over water... I'll use discs that I can replace for that. Oh the 169g was a great choice for one disc by the way, I was able to shape it to a forehand Firebird flight path several times with a hyzer release. I did almost throw it (BH) into the Tum Tum river on the Top of the World hole at Greg's place.

I'm modifying my answer.

I originally chose the Destroyer for forehand, but after extensive testing, my favorite pink 170 gram Star disc has been replaced by my 172 first run Star Xcaliber.

I'm am still blown away by the stability of the Starlight Boss, its incredibly stable for its weight, but the Xcal is still more stable, and I can really crank it hard over when I release it and it always comes back.

Still want to try one of those stabilized Destroyers.

Wizard for anything without a ceiling out to 270, Roc to 320, and Eagle-X for hyzers, turnovers, thumbers, tomahawks, distance, hyzer flips, weird lines, you name it. It goes about 90% as far as my Destroyers without a ceiling, so no real need for a distance driver.

So I checked to see what my answers were. I had three different ones lol.

So I have modified it to be the new and FINAL three (until I change my mind again)

Long Course:
171 Nuke (yeah, it's replacing the Force as my goto for MAX D)
176 Elite Z Wasp (replaces my love for the ESP Wasp since I broke two)
172 Pro D Ringer (replaces all putters)

Short Course:
176 FLX Buzzz (stays the same)
176 Elite Z Wasp (same reason as above)
172 Pro D Ringer (same reason as before, best putter ever.)

Now I just got to wait 6 months, check back here and see how much I changed my mind again. Bet I do.
