View Full Version : Anyone thrown the Nuke?

I am considering ordering a Disc Craft Nuke and am wondering if anyone has tossed it yet? How about the Katana? I think I am going to snag them both, but if I had to choose between the two...

It depends on your power level.
The Katana is more understable and definitely easier to throw, but the Nuke is probably longer if you have 400' of power or so.

Yes I have thrown the Nuke, thanks for asking.

I threw a nuke but one time, just a couple days ago. Relative to my usual throws, it went faaar with little effort on my part. So much so that since the time I threw it I have been thinking about getting a couple. In fact I will probably run down to NA as soon as they open and see what they got. I haven't put a new mold in my bag in forever. If it works out this could be very exciting. :P

I hope it's a rumor, Adam, but I heard that Katanas won't be normal production run in Champion this year.
I was out at Disc Golf Depot yesterday and he had Nukes in stock as well as Katanas in Pro (normal release) and Champion (CFR, $20).

From what I understand, CFR will be the only way to get Champion Katanas in 2010. Star Katanas are expected to be released for production runs in 2010 though.

the nuke is awsome when i throw it with all of its potential being used. i throw it correctly about 1 in 6 throws now. it throws just like a surge imo. the plastic feels really good in your hand though, very grippy. i threw a champion katana once and really liked the flight on it but i will NOT pay 25 bux for a disc. shame on you innova! money hungry dicks.

I want a Z Katana.
I also got to feel the Opto (I think...) plastic that Adam has posted about and think they should make Katanas in it as well.

Then you just need to get a lightweight Opto Halo and beat it up some.

I bought one and threw it yesterday.
Not crazy about it but that's mainly because I don't like rims that wide (ie Groove).
Anyone know if the other plastics will also have the wide rim?

shame on you innova! money hungry dicks.
Its the TDs and tournaments that most often benefit, not directly
innova. As a TD you pay a reasonable rate and then use them to generate $$$ for your tournament.

Demand is setting that price for retailers, not Innova. Its the same reason the Memorial Nukes were going for $25+.
AFAIK, Innova isn't selling these for any more than other discs in equivalent plastics. Also, keep in mind where the money for CFR discs go.

at the memorial, we were able to toss a bunch of discraft discs to sample them and I liked the force way better than the nuke, the nuke just wanted to act like a brand new super overstable boss for some reason and the force was going straight easily... fluke?

Mine are quite the opposite. 173 First run Force, when I got it, would do nothing but dive to the left. Picked up a 169 Z Force and it did the same thing. My 168 Memorial Nuke, when new, would go nice and straight when released flat, with fade at the end. After it spent a week or two in the river at North Bonne it has become piggishly overstable though...

I have a couple First Runs. 171 and 168. They both fly super straight but fade decently at the end.
As for a 1st run Force. I hated that disc till I lost all my other drivers. Then I learned it. Now I have to keep two of them.

Dude said Z, and I agree, if it aint Z, or Champ, you cant see the sparkly bits well enough.
Same reason I dont like the Iron Arm Sparkle Boss.

Not a good disc to rip too hard. Great finesse disc though.

Just threw my first Nuke 170 esp. Was on hole 14 @ white river. Nice and wide open hole and deep. The nuke went under-stable right outa my hand and went straight in the woods behind 15 blue bench. Started under and went 350+ feet just under-stable with a slight left fade in the last 15 feet of flight. Threw again on 17 blue wich is wide open and flat. This time I went flat as possible and was able to park the basket with-in 1 foot behind. I think thats 420+ feet. seems fast but it has a big lip like a boss and not as much turn in it. I'd rather have a monarch or orc in champ plastic.

I just got my first Nuke this week from Scott Papa. I'm already a huge fan, it's so much nicer to throw than other super long drivers I've thrown, much more forgiving then the Force. It seemed to add about 50 feet to my normal max D with the Surge.:bowing:

OOOOOOO the nuke is the bomb. i bought 2 of them and the first time i threw them. both hit over 400 ft with out an all out throw. they fly really nice and to me even if i pull it over it will stable back out and finsh with a little fade to the left. it was a nuke i threw out at W.R.O on hole 18 on the A course. put the nuke about 45 ft past the basket and then hit my putt for birdie

I think the Rogue is great... it's what I wanted the Surge SS to be.

The Rogue and the Surge SS are the same mold. So what you wanted should have came true. Unless you don't like the Z and FLX plastic.
I'm also waiting for the Z Nuke but I'm throwing the ESP in the meantime.

And back on-topic, I've thought about trying the Nuke, but I just love my Halos so much... they have a really shallow rim that helps compensate for the super-wide wing, grip-wise.

The Nuke is my longest disc, but its also very hard to control. It stays at home for any serious rounds.

Yeah, the disc does have a learning curve. I've been using it for really nice floaty hyzers in the 350-380 range. I didn't use it once at the DRO. Took it out actually because I didn't want to reach for it.
Thing is money though when you get the good snap and release out of it. Threw one @ St Mary's in the Spokane Valley 416 feet. Was my third throw of the day (first two were Forces, none of which was further then 375). Measured with my buddys range finder that he has for hunting. Think it was a Leopold.
It's definitely more forgiving on release errors then the Force. Still won't replace my Forces though since on average I throw them much further and consistently. One day it'll earn it's spot when I just need to go R-Tard far. IT'S JUST SO DAMN FAST!!! I think it's honestly the fastest disc produced yet. Haven't thrown a Halo yet though.

I was out today compairing my friends rogue to the nuke. The rogue is too under stable for me. The nuke is flat but I can turn it over easy if needed. The rogue is super fast though. I'm gona stay with my champ orc and mabe get a champ monarch.

bought a 165 cause i didnt have a big arm maybe 275 consistantly with surges (at the time) out of the box it turned like a force (heeeeeaaaavvvy turn) now my snap is better and the disc is broken in and this thing is KA-rayzay long im up to about 375 when thrown well. its got some s turn and a nice finish. love it

Untrue. The Rogue is .1 cm taller than the Surge SS and has a .1cm thicker rim. Look at the specs on the PDGA page.

This isn't conclusive.
Although I do believe that the Rogue and Surge SS may be slightly different molds, the difference you are citing could be variations in the way the different plastic cools.

So the nukes I have are first run stamped. They have a pretty normal looking wing for a fast driver. Mostly flat but just slightly concave. A friend of mine just got one at next adventure a couple weeks ago that does not have the first run stamp. The wing is much different. It has a little bit of a convex profile. Doesn't look right, doesn't fly right.
Anyone else seen what I'm talking about? If all the regular production esp nukes are coming out like that I don't think I am gonna want any.

That's a relief. I'm hoping this funny looking one is just some sort of one time aberration. I'm still curious if anyone else has come across any, because if I mail order any nukes and get those I will not be stoked. Take a look at the rim before you buy from NA though, cause you want to make sure it's a good one.

I have replaced a boss or two in my bag with the nukes. They fly just as far as a boss with about half the power/snap. At least for me that is. Up until i got this disc i could never reach hole 10 at Arlington . I don't really know how far that is but it is 420+ for sure. I would recommended them to anyone who has not tried them.
Finally Discraft answers the Boss.

well ive had one the nuke is understable at high speeds and overstable at low speeds great glide but hard to control at high speeds it is by far a long driver but if you have a big are you need to hyzer flip the disc other then that it is a great disc me still i like my force long and overstable so i can torque the shit out of it without worrying about turning it over to much, but the nuke does have more glide then the force this attribute i like in the nuke but all around great job by discraft:rockon:
