Looks like Thursday night group camping will be available since one of the online options was three nights of camping.

Here is the scoop gang... The GNO has filled all of the online spots available! The events in Oregon have filled in the last couple of years far faster than any other part of the country. The PDGA gets a little confused about why this happens here. I will attest to the fact that WE HAVE THE BEST CHALLENGING AND SCENIC COURSES ANYWHERE.......................................... .................................................. .................................................. ....................................
Well we do have professionally run events... that has to help..

In my 32 years of playing this awesome sport I think that here in Oregon we have no cure for the rabid lust for great venues and events. I hope all who want to play can get in.

The official process / answer (in reply to: '...how these things work' from above):

There were a handful of entries released back to the 'field' after the following occurred / were resolved:

1 person signed up twice [spots can not be held].

3 people signed up friends; then found out the person had already signed themselves up [resulting in DUPLICATE entries].
- 1 of the above persons asked if they could transfer the duplicate spot to *another friend*... the answer was 'No' [to be fair to everyone...the spot was released back to the field].

No one was rejected due to a declined credit card.

Online registration was 'officially closed' at 7:30pm PST after all entries had been verified & payments processed. The RED NOTE indicates that it's officially closed.

If you didn't get in there's still hope. I spoke with Tom yesterday and he said that anyone who tries to camp in the group camping spot on Thursday night will be DQ'd, as will any golfers who are playing loud music during camping 'quiet hours.' Climbing up on the water tank and glow golfing will also get you tossed out.

(The parks people have really gotten strict this year and have increased fees and restrictions considerably.)

So show up with $$$ in hand on Saturday morning and odds are you can claim one of these sure-to-be relinquished spots.

Dang, you've found the $300/night loophole in the Thursday camping ban.

Also, you can climb up on the water tower if you wear your cloaking shroud and glow golf is allowed during daylight hours.

I was wondering if anyone had any interesting OB ideas for Whistlers?

Last year I laid out rope along Hole #7 and behind Hole #9 for safety reasons (along the whole Cliff)...

Are there any other places people have thought about making OB? Safety Concerns?:biggrin2: Cruel Intentions? :pullhair::nahnah::waaah:

Rope on 7 and 9 on the cliff along the right side: that makes sense, improves safety, prevents disagreements, etc.

Elsewhere just to make holes harder? Not necessary, IMO. Whistler's is awesome, play it as it lies.

Tom said that 'no glo' was specified in the agreement with the parks for this tournament. If they wanted to impose an outright ban, I'm guessing they would have alerted the local club.

Hey Andrew, maybe a ob line along the right side of the fairway on #18. We used your rope on 7 and 9 for a good while after the northwest series last year. Until some person cut it and used it for a line to scale the cliff.

How about a rope (or circle of hay bales so you can see the OB line), say 200 feet in diameter, around the basket on 14? Land inside or re-tee from a drop zone (AM tee)*.

Talk about a knee-knocking shot, especially with a cross wind.

I liked the rope on 7 and 9 Andrew, it was clear cut. No question about safety or OB concerns. It also gave a realistic place to play your next shot from and sped up play even though hole 7 was the slowest hole last year in my 4 group wait opinion.

I don't feel that 18 needs an OB line as people camping there know that anything is possible and if you throw over there it makes a 3 very difficult.

The island shot on Hole 14 sounds tasty but is very unfair to those who do not throw that far. However I think hole 12 should have an OB line parallel to the Hyzer shot into the guarded basket. People who throw the Hyzer shot and it gets away from them should not still have the easy crash the trees shot and get a three. It would make people more aware of their drive on that hole.

Douglas County Parks HAS specified in County meetings with local disc golfers present that glow golf is not aloud. Their main reason for this is an effort to not disturb non-disc golf campers/patrons . . . and of course to avoid player injuries on County property :( It's a real bummer . . . The OB on 7 and 9 during tourney's has been a no-brainer for years.
An OB line on 18 is a great idea. Us locals use it consistently now.
The group camping area is slowly crawling out towards 18's fairway and with the total campground capacity at 200 now, the campers often use a bit of that land. Just ask Rancho Relaxo (Storrs/Ollis), they've been there for years.
Also, alternate pin 18 to the right w/ an OB can play tough.
Flash,
I love your idea of the RHBH hyzer OB line on hole 12, especially when in the deep left spot.
I'm curious as to how far past the pin we should run the line. 50? 80?
Great idea, thanks. Expect it at the dubs and perhaps the SOWS gig.
Pro's playing 17 as an island hole can be exciting too.
Anyway ya play it Whistlers ROCS!

I was definitely thinking about some OB lines for the SOWS and Doubles events. It would be cool to see if Tom would let us try some OB lines during the GNO to see how they will work for the Doubles.

So is this no glow golf rule apply only for the GNO? Or does it cover all times of the year?

I was told last October when we held the 4th State of Jefferson Finals that it was for official tournaments only. This is because of liabililty. If you're playing a casual glow round, not during an event you should be alright.

Namaste,

Can't the system be set up that when a player signs up through the PDGA site, their name automatically goes on record for public view?

How would my asking when the registration list is going to be available slow things down? That's f###ing insane!

Hell it's not like I don't have a right to ask. I did pay my entry fee after all and it has been a month before I said anything. So whatever.

Have you folks not played in an Embree tourney before?
Been the same way for over a decade.
He may be the last of the old-timers still doing things the old-time way.
And don't expect the same standards in other areas of the event either.
I have and will play in Tom's tourneys.
Just know what to expect. As several do, but may be hoping that this year things will change.

Get me outta Am as fast as possible. JV (Am) can be fun, but man, winning JV seems more like a stepping stone than something to get overly excited about. If you're packing more than 3-5 AM trophies than maybe it's time to take a look at your goals in life, cause you're aiming low...

Interesting bagger discussion.
Sam wants an old man win. Hopefully after he gets it he realizes his play/rating level isn't the right fit for MM1.
As for Mr. Elliott. Well, we tolerate his constant winning because he's one of the nicest DGers there is. And he doesn't ALWAYS win, it just feels like it sometimes. He's always consistant
The biggest bagger? That's easy. Brad Huggins. Sure it's a small division (GM), but winning or being 2nd EVERY time is poor form. Now, there's a bagger.

Not sure if everyone noticed but the event is listed as an B/A event.

The Pros have a B tier and the Ams have an A tier. This means that all amateurs have to be current PDGA members in order to compete in this event. I am not sure Tom will be taking renewals at the event so I am checking in with him now on this but for the 13 or so amateurs who are not current on the PDGA tournament page you might want to make sure you remedy this in the next week in order to allow Tom time to verify your current membership status. If you know someone on the registration list that is not current and you know they don't visit these forums you might want to let them know to fix it!

http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9733

If you head out on Thursday or Friday of that week and it does not show you as current on the tournament page you should bring a copy of your online verification of current membership.

Flash
April 2nd, 2010, 05:07 PM
If you are registered as an amateur for the event and are not current with the PDGA as of April 12th, the Monday before the event you will not be allowed to compete in the event. If you are not current and are signed up as a Pro you will need to pay 10 dollars at check-in, in order to compete in the event.

If you have any questions contact Tom Embree with your concerns or questions about this issue.

See you all in 2 weeks!

Remember its not me its the TD and his prerogative. I am just trying to help make sure that it does not come down to people losing their spots because they did not know they had to be current PDGA members. But I would suspect if the spot can be filled they will get a refund but the competition manual does give the TD some leeway with these issues.

Refunds will not be issued after April 10th, those listed in the amateur side of the event that are not current will get a players pack in lieu of a refund but will not get to compete. Wait list will be used to fill spots that are emptied due to the above issue!

Those in the pro side if not current on April 10th on PDGA.com bring proof of membership and $10.00 bucks just in case. Tom said he is not getting stuck this year paying non-member fees after the event is over so he will charge you $10.00 to make sure he is not stuck with your bill.

That is funny I was thinking a 149 would be good enough. There are few holes at Whistlers that would enable disc technology to handicap the difficulty of the holes. All holes are reachable but 2 and they are both the only ones that can be helped or hurt by faster farther flying discs.

If Andrew has time to install and incorporate the OB lines like he was suggesting the course really will not change much from last year.

There are still numerous Amateurs who are not current and if can not prove without a doubt there current PDGA status then there will be some folks getting in off the wait list.

If you were on the wait list and are a current member bring a copy of the email showing your current status when you renewed your membership. There are going to be some sad and happy people!

i know for a fact 2 of the guys on that list that show up as not current have in fact paid and are current. I don't know how long it takes the PDGA to update that though. I guess i will just tell them to print the email out even though they renewed last friday. better safe than sorry.

FYI: The group camping is reserved for GNWO disc golfers starting Friday night and are available Fri, Sat and Sun night. The river sites are always available first come first serve, however.

Last year there were some folks that camped in the group site Thursday night even after the park folks asked them to leave. This kind of behavior will result in disqualification from the event this year.

Also, the park has specifically stated in our permit that there will be NO DISC GOLF AFTER DARK... so no glow golf. Thank whoever pissed them off enough to include that this year :( Anyone caught playing night rounds will be subject to similar repercussions as Thursday group campers.

As always, please be respectful to the park staff at all times.

Thanks!

Or how about not threatening to slow things down even more by us asking a simple question.

Just want to know if I'm in. It's simple.

Sorry, I just have to say something here... Tom does NOT read this forum, ever, at all, not ever. Sometimes I come out here to post relevant information, but generally do not visit here regularly.

If you have a question about whether or not you are in the event... call or e-mail him. If you have a questions about the event that pertains to you specifically... call or e-mail him. Honestly, is it that much harder to have an actual conversation with someone rather than just complain about it to the rest of the world?

Solid advice, it is an easy step that will guarantee clarity of membership. Take the burden off the TD and come with your proof of membership. If you went to a bar and had no ID you are probably not getting served alcohol, same thing applies here. It is not meant to be a personal slight, it is just the only way the TD has to cover his/her butt in situations where a data connection can not be ensured or a member has not renewed in a decent amount of time before an event.

You could also email Addie and have her email your status to Tom. The PDGA staff normally does this for the TD's but if you want to take actions into your own hands then be proactive.

Just like you I am the messenger, I am trying to inform and reduce conflict and difficult issues at check-in. We all want to play and this would be a ridiculous reason not to get to play by not having a way to show your membership status.

Thank you very much Flash. I appreciate the info. My friends and i would have never had a clue about being current to play. I always renew in January but the guys that registered for the GNWO weren't going to renew because this was the only tourney they are going to play this year. It would have been a waste of a trip and a very disappointing drive home if you hadn't said something. Again, Thank you! See you there.:cheerleader::chug::jumpspin:

I'm just sitting at home reflecting on the past weekend at Whistler's Bend. Every opportunity to play an event at Whistler's is a real treat. This was by far my most satisfying win at the Great Northwest Open Championship to date....:trophy:

To come from 8 strokes behind after the first round was a great accomplishment. Lane Mason posting a -9 the first round really set the bar high (or is it set the bar low?). I knew it would take a very smooth day of golf on Sunday to get back in the hunt. :biggrin2:

Relying on my Forehand in the forest and my distance in the field was key. I managed to birdie one of the tougher stretch of holes the last round during my rally....10,11,12,and 13...Hole 10 (park job spike hyzer), Hole 11 (Roller Park Job, Bag on putt from 15ft) Hole 12 (360 Spin Spike Hyzer to 20ft) Hole 13 (Roller straight up the gut to 20ft)...Going -10 on Holes 1-5 all weekend helped too :)

Congrats to Gawain for his Ace on Top of The World!! All you other Aces also but mostly to Devin for finishing the event with an Ace on #1. I still owe you $5 for that man, just EPIC!! Devin played his butt off and pushed me all round. Way to go Southern Oregon Disc Golf!! Let's ride this momentum into the Summer!!:yay:

I can't wait to see some scores and ratings on PDGA.com....Thanks for all the hard-work getting those up ASAP. I know how hard it can be to input all that info after a long weekend :):chug:

I took a 6 on it, but everything else about the event was wonderful! But wow, what a mens Advanced field!! I finished out the weekend at 162, even par and that was only good enough for a tie for 9th!! Great event, great weekend, crazy good Advanced field! Was a little too emotional to say it at the awards but the level of competition I faced this weekend was fantastic. I thought even par would win the tournament easily in our division but it turns out that it had to be one better and there were a lot of people close. If this is how the rest of the year is going to be, we are going to have a lot of close, fun competitions. (Note to self: practice putting!)

Are the ratings going to make it in for the PDGA ratings update?

The cut off for the ratings to be included in our next update is today per PDGA, so if the TD report is submitted today you will be able to see official results online, but no ratings will be attached. If the TD report is submitted after today you will be able to see results with unofficial round ratings, but those ratings won't be included in the May update. Maybe this answers a couple questions...that is if I'm right about what I'm jabbering about...
