I play with one guy that throws all discraft , except A few roc's. Then there's a person here or there that has a discraft disc or two. I've been thinking of trying more stuff by them though. Of nothing else I know the molds are consistent. I own about 10 destroyers and nearly all of them have different amounts of dome to the mold. Frustrating to say the least, but I still love them all.

Get ready for the never-ending Innova-Discraft debate! I love this game, I'll start by saying that Innova discs are really ugly, they're all radically understable and anyone who throws with their left or right arm should definitely throw Discraft!

If you don't know the weight, plastic and use for every disc in you're back it's time to slim down and learn your discs forward and backward, the best way is to play with only one disc for an entire round, you will find the strengths and weaknesses of that disc very quickly or go and field test everything.

And nothing for anyhyzer, unless he throws the Destroyers sidearm or something. Also throws a gator, pig and a rhyno, why do you need all three of these?

I have 3 175 Eco Star destroyers all in different states of wear. One is really flippy, one in the middle and one is pretty overstable. I have two 175 champ destroyers that to honest with you are in my bag because they are bright orange and very easy to see. There are few holes on our courses that are very easy to lose plastic in the grass (long bunch grass)on. One of the destroyers is very beat up for champ and the other is fairly new. My 175 xcalibur is my most overstable driver and I use it for 375-400 foot outside hyzers and strong headwinds.

The CE gator in my opinion is the most predictable midrange I've ever thrown. It's also great for sidearm approaches where you've got room to outside. I have a second because I throw it on any hole I might have a chance of losing or damaging my CE (one of courses has holes on a fairly nasty cliff face and the rest of the course is very sharp rock all around).

My pig is used mainly for flick approaches and headwind putting and my rhyno for approach shots where I'm not 100% comfortable with my aviar. The rhyno and putter do cross over a bit but I've got for it in the bag so why not.

As for left to right I'll usually throw a sidearm or force a turnover (which I know is bad technique). We used to have thick wooded courses here but then this nasty bug called the pine beetle devistated our courses. 90% of the trees died and it open for hyzers on 75% of the holes. I'm trying to force myself to throw more turnovers and straight shots in prep for my week in Oregon in May, but it's hard when up and right gets you there on almost every hole.

Also while I'm not him, and it's not an excuse when I played with Feldberg he had 11 destroyers and 3 xcaliburs in his bag lol. Also the 9 rocs and 6 eagles. That's a tad overboard. Maybe. But he throws most of them.

Wow, it just nevers ceases to amaze me at how much plastic people carry, hurts my back just reading it...

I do carry 20 discs but only 13 different molds, I have duplicates for slightly different shots and better gripping plastic duplicates for those wet or cold days. The point is I know what all of my discs do very well. I used to carry 30 discs and knew about 6 of them well, but after a couple of tips from my favorite pro (Chris Waugh, who's rated 1007 now, way to go REDFIVE!) and some field testing I have really learned each and every disc I throw.

I think going above 3 of any disc in your bag is a bit much. I can understand three different weights, conditions and runs but 5 or 6 of anything is a bit much. Also I think people use too many big overstable drivers in their collection like the Boss, Force, Destroyer, Xcal, etc. and don't have as much understable/stable discs and fairway stuff like your TeeBird, Eagle, Leopard, Xl, etc. style discs. People have fallen in love with speed 12+

quite a concept indeed... where was I going with that?

It was something about uniting all the workers in the world. Unfortunately, the powers that are always have been willing to break out the Pinkertons, the states' militias, and historically, even the powers of Rome. Today they'd surely go as far as the full forces of the War on Terror to keep safe the bosses' interests. Though, I firmly love the concept of the Wobblies, the time for any chance of success seems to have passed. I will join my brothers and sisters and await the rewards state corporatism has for all of us. We will see what they'll do with their victory over the Red Menace.

Or, maybe you meant wobbly discs?

Yikes, with those discs on standby included, that might be the most expensive bag out there... on a mission to throw valuable discs every time?

I always carry 2 putters + fifteen midrange and drivers but have been swapping discs in and out one at a time based on how much they actually get thrown in rounds.

Putters

2 174 soft challengers-one newer for approaches, straight putts, hyzer putts, short drives one beat in to go right or very straight from 250 and in.

Mids

2 174 Echo Star San Marino Rocs-both just getting nicely broken in 290 and in straight/hyzer shots
176 flx buzz-Perfectly broken in. This disc was in my bag for a very long time and got bumped out for 4 or 5 months and I just put it back to give me an easier anny line than I get with my newer rocs.

Fairway

175 Star Teebird-Broken in and likes to fly on a very slight anny line and finish dead straight.
175 Champ Teebird-New and tasty becoming my go to disk does whatever is asked of it.
175 CFR TL- New in the bag and undecided as to what it wants to be used for but versatile

Drivers

175 Star Boss-Brand New and overstable as hell for long backhands with trouble to the right. Or long Sidearms with trouble to the left.
174 Champ Boss-Broken in just right and is my go to sidearm driver. Goes a long way on a line and finishes hard right. Also used for long straight backhands that finish hard left, tomahawks, and thumbers for distance and sidearm or backhand approach/skip shots. Some days I feel like I only throw this disc.
171 Pro Boss-I have tried to take this disc out of my bag because I don't think I have ever thrown it during a competitive round but it is too much fun to throw to leave in the closet. Goes farther than any other disc I throw backhand and is great for those high anny bombs

175 CFR Glow Wraith-Just barely broken in and is one of my new favorite backhand discs for long hyzers long s shots and just recently for the sidearm anny shot at seatac hole 11.
175 Pro Wraith-Broken in but not overly flippy yet. Perfect for hyzer flip tunnel shots. Finesse backhand S shots or big anhyzer bombs. My favorite backhand disc at the moment.

2 175 Champ Firebirds-Both are broken in evenly but the newer of the two is less stable. Used for backhand hyzers or long straight backhands that finish left. Shorter sidearm drives that go straight and don't finish as hard right as my bosses do or for Sidearms that S a little and finish in the middle.

175 Star Teerex-New for backhand hyzers. Overhands. Occasional Sidearm approach

175 Champ. Beast-Broken In and fun to throw for backhand S and anny shots but never seems to get off the bench in meaningful situations.

So after watching some videos of the Hornings canyon course I've been hit with the stark realization that a bag full of overstability isn't going to treat me too well. Lol.

You can throw a straight up hyzer on almost every hole of the courses I play, so I've never needed that slow gentle turnover game. So I'll be adding some discs to the bag soon and learning how to really throw them. With some research I think I'm going to add a beast , leopard and panther. All in champion I think or star maybe. Thoughts on those choices?

Personally I would go with an Ontario Roc and or a standard dx Roc that you've tuned, in place of a Panther. If you like rocs of course. I find it easier to carry less molds, but more discs of the same mold in various stages of ware, to cover the over stable/understable part of my game. I also carry a leopard and love them, grab on in pro plastic, they are cheap and easily replaceable if you beat one in to far. I'd also think that you could live without a beast. Or perhaps try a Roadrunner in place of the leopard and the beast, somewhere in the middle ground as far as distance goes and still has the understability you are looking for.

If you're looking for distance hyzer flip or just anhyzers the Avenger SS works really well. If you are looking for a controlled fairway anhyzers a Leopard is a good disc, though I prefer them in Champion Plastic, but it's personal preference.

I had a nicely tuned kc pro roc that I left on the course last month. Our rec players kamloops just keep stuff. We never get phone calls. My Oregon trip is in May so I'm not sire I have the time to beat stable stuff up right now. One of my destoyers will hyzer flip for me of i've got a little room to play with on the right I can get that out about 450-475 feet. So I've got longer somewhat narrow stuff covered. Looking for something under stable for the 100-150 and something in the 200-300 foot range.

Not sure on the plastic but I had an element and gave it to a friend for a first run star stamp xcalibur he wasn't throwing.

I don't know why but I can't seem to control a putter past 60 feet. I usually reach for a midrange and choke up. I love my champ shark to about 125.

Try a Meteor in the 100-150 foot range for turnovers.

Don't get me wrong, anyone that's played with me knows if it's an open shot inside 340 and somewhat straight, 90% of the time I'm reaching for my KC, but that 100-150 slow turnover with an avair driver is just so...money.

Tim
February 10th, 2010, 04:31 PM
Or try changing up your grip. I use a modified fan grip for all my putters and mids when I'm driving/approaching. Dunno what kind of grip you're using now, but I experienced huge gains in my confidence in the 70-260' range when I started using that.

Bruce
February 10th, 2010, 04:35 PM
I agree with Tim in that, my four finger are flat on the inner flight plate when throwing a putter for distance. It allows me to get the spin I desire, with power, and I don't create off axis torque forcing the disc to turn over right out of the hand.

Chad_from_BC
February 10th, 2010, 08:11 PM
I generally use a modified fan grip inside 175. Unless I'm throwing a hyzer then I'll move to a modified power grip.

175 Pro pig (overstable)
175 Wizard stiff (Just right)

Mid
174 ESP Wasp (1.5)
176 Z Buzz (.5)
178 ESP Meteor (-.5)

Drivers
175 Star Leopard (roller disc forehand mostly))
167 ESP Stalker (Last few weeks I've been sleeping with this disc)
175 Z Stalker (I rarely even speak to this one)
175 Star SL (In the bag for weight and balance issues)
172 CFR Boss (Live by the Boss)
173 CFR Boss (Die by the Boss)
175 Star Excal (Nice to have at least one disc you can count on no matter what)
175 Champ Excal (Depends on the weather, this will see more air time as the sun returns)

Miracle
169 EPIC (Forget the box of chocolates! Life is like a tomahawk Epic....)

Hmm going thru the list I counted up 5 manufactures I think that makes me Fox News. Anybody have more than 5?

This has to with providing enough spin to that the centrifugal force keeps things held inside the rim, right?

JMan
February 16th, 2010, 01:25 PM
Yes; it's an actual grip used back in the late 60s and 70s with wider rimed discs, and yes we used to pass things back and forth on the sports fields at school during lunch, and a BPG did work best for this
