Sweet. I'm gonna beat everyone else to the punch on this one...
Will there be a players pack?
Is lunch provided?
What will be in the players pack?
Are we using the long or short positions?
Will there be extra holes?
I swear that when I started this list I'd remember ALL of the typically asked questions... I gotta be missing a few...

Will there be a players pack?
Answer: Yes, but they will be minimal. More details will be available in the near future.
Is lunch provided?
Answer: At this point, no. Carie and I are still working on the lunch issue. There will be a very limited amount of time for lunch, so options will be limited. Again, more information will be available soon.
Are we using long or short positions?
Answer: I am planning on heading out to Timber this weekend to develop a layout. Currently, we are expecting to have a majority of the pins in the short placements to facilitate speed of play. I will try and post the tourney set-up and the date baskets will be moved into tourney positions sometime next week.
Will there be extra baskets?
Answer: No. The field will be limited to 72 players (4 players per hole) playing the permanent 19 hole course.

I am working on him, but he got a little discouraged at Horning's when we were throwing with you guys. I have defiantly seen him play better, but I will pass along the encouragement. I was definitely on my game at least when I was throwing with you guys. However after we split up you guys took all the Ju Ju with you cause I quickly went off my game. Anyway had a great time with you guys.

He played fine. Tell him to work on a driver, midrange and putter that he can count on and he will be fine at Timber. Plus, the guys playing in MA3 will make it fun for him as a tester tourney. we all talk smack but it is not meant maliciously. It is how we make up for our lame game. he will have a blast. he will probably beat Scott Hill by 20 strokes.:biggrin2:
Oh, and the Ju Ju went somewhere else cuz we all stunk it up on the old course. Had a great time doing it though. That is all that matters.

I bet the TD wouldn't mind shooting the player an email just letting them know there is a super cool division (MA3) available that is more inline with their PDGA rating. You know, a gentle reminder.

It's a shame, too. Based on past results, it looks like Tewa would be a great addition to what I hope will be a very competitive MA3.

Perhaps the same reason I signed up for MA1 with a rating of 868 at the GNO last year? They believe they can play better than what there rating is.

Having played with Tewa this weekend, I think he will do just fine. He is good player who appears to be improving rapidly. I'm confident he will benefit from playing with players who are slightly better than he is at the moment. He has a very solid putt. I was a lil jealous ;)

I got to play a round with him a few weekends ago and I would agree with everything Jeff posted. Tewa will soon be out playing his rating with a little more tournament experience.

I think it is cute of Scott and Kent to try and make anchors out of themselves. It's one thing to hold yourself back but to try and encourage others to not try to improve their game? Wow...
My question would be, though... why is a 923 player playing ADVANCED Masters? Shouldn't he be playing Intermediate? And why are we not encouraging Tom Dooley to play MA3? Or David Moore to play Intermediate? Why is Kim Smothers not playing Rec Women?

So Sam thinks the only way to improve your game is to play with players better than you. That's a valid argument.
However, Scott thinks (and I beleive Kent does to), that there is also something to be said for playing in a tight competition. Not only is it more fun (IMO), but you've got to learn how to win when the competition is tight. Ultimately I'd like to develop a killer instinct on the course - the ability to can that pressure birdie putt when my oponent just bogied. There are more opportunites to do this when the competition is tighter. Playing way over your head may also be fun, and you get to watch some real pretty golf, but in some ways your more of a spectator than a player.
My question would be, though... why is a 923 player playing ADVANCED Masters? Shouldn't he be playing Intermediate? And why are we not encouraging Tom Dooley to play MA3? Or David Moore to play Intermediate? Why is Kim Smothers not playing Rec Women?
I didn't start by calling out a specific player - I just agreed with someone else's comment.
Go look for some of my old posts on that other forum. I've called out large groups of players for not playing within their division on many occasions. I still firmly beleive that if the PDGA divisions were allowed to work as intended we would be gifted with some very good and competitive races.

Actually, I don't believe that the only way to get better at DG is to play with better players. There is also this thing called practice where you go and putt for an hour rather than play Orchard 4 times.
That said, most people play to the level of the people they play with. Want to be a Rec player? Play Rec. Want to learn some stuff and see some better golf? Play up - not down.
The competition thing is a valid point. But winning Rec is like arguing on the internet, really...

My question would be, though... why is a 923 player playing ADVANCED Masters? Shouldn't he be playing Intermediate?
You take away MM1 and you're damn right I am playing MA2. My PDGA rating has been set by playing many tourneys for many years. It's pretty accurate.
Now if Mr. 823 got that rating from outdated or very few tourney rounds then it could be inaccurate. Maybe he spends 8 hours a day 7 days a week practicing. But that's some serious improvement to play in a division a minimum of 112 rating points above his. That's not some MA1 veteran wondering about playing up into Pro and playing opponents 20-30 points higher.:pirate:
I got a $5 for him if he finishes in the top 50% of MA1!:cheerleader::trophy::cheerleader:

Jordan, thinking about it, I don't buy it. I think you would play Advanced. Or you would play Pro Masters... or wherever Gawain played. I don't see you playing Intermediate. Jeremy John plays Advanced. I don't think you would play Intermediate because I think you would crush those guys on a regular basis.
But hell... why not do it? Tell you what... Do it next year in an ORS event and I will pay your entry in exchange for 55% of your scrip. Whaddaya say? :D

Thanks - warm weather n sunshineI am currently leaning towards the layout posted below. I hope to have pins moved sometime on the Friday before the event (at this point it only looks like 4 or 5 need to be moved).
We will be using most of the normal Timber mandos and OB lines. There will be a few changes (ie: no mando tree on new hole 1, an added mando half way down the fairway of hole 17 and an added mando on the left side of the fairway of hole 19). Those who miss a mando will be required to proceed to a drop zone incurring a one stroke penalty. All drop zones will be near their respective mandos.
Note: I am using the new course numbering system as noted on the score cards created by PGE.

Hey, if we had more day light I would put everything in the long and add the holes across the lower parking lot. Unfortunately, I think 11 in the long would cause a huge back-up and it brings the tee pad for 3 into play.

Yes I have a portable outdoor heater and a full propane tank.
The heater isn't the greatest, but if someone has one of those pop-up shelters with walls
(I think the Bellingers might have one) it would make the perfect warm-up tent.
Let me know if you want me to dig it out and I could meet up with someone who is going and pass it on.

There are only 12 spaces left for the tourney. If we fill, spots will go to those who have paid first. So, please get your payment in ASAP. We will be accepting entries and payments until Thursday night. There will be no entries or payments accepted the day of the tournament.

Update:
Roads were clear coming and going. The only slick spot was just before Timber this morning. Unless it dumps snow tonight I think there will be a bit of black ice on the road from Barton to Timber. It could be a little messy the mile before Timber, but it is completely flat, so it shouldn't be much of an issue.
Murray "the Britt" and I deiced all of the pads today (Timber was covered in snow). I will go over them with a shovel tomorrow morning if necessary. We will allow participants to throw from directly behind any pad if you deem a pad to be unsafe.
I will post more tonight. I need a shower, food and whiskey before I type another.....

Even I beat Scott Hill! :cheerleader:
JPink earned a well-deserved shot of whiskey for his rock-star driving performance on the way home! Those were some crazy road conditions.
Thanks to all who attended for their flexibility! The weather was nutso and we didn't have an awards ceremony as it was more important for people to get home...there are some people who deserve big props! (Like Matt Kazaba, with his first ever PDGA tournament win...ps...it was his first PDGA tournament! :trophy:)
The Winners:
MPO: James Moore
MM1: Tom Dooley
MA3: Cody Hardman
MA2: Matt Kazaba
MA1: Chris "The Local" Jones
FW1: Kirsten "I turned 30 today" Voyer
FW2: Cindy "I was moved up and won my division any way" McMahan*
*This was Cindy's first win in Intermediate, too!
For those of you who won scrip, we will be giving your names to Next Adventure for you to claim by Monday afternoon. The amount you won will be posted with your final scores on PDGA.com.
Again, thank you all who attended! It definitely was a memorable event.

Talk about a bunch of hard core disc golfers. That has to be the wildest day of golf I've played. Tons of fun and good company. We had a couple of local guys playing Rec in their first ever tourney. They had a ball as did everyone else.
Many thanks to Jason and Carrie for all their hard work to make this event happen. Jason actually went out and spread de-icer on the tee-pads. Thanks to Stumptown for giving us an opportunity to play some PDGA golf during the winter. (my rating will drop because of it though) And I have to give big shout out to Tim the Sausage Guy for coming out and providing a hot lunch. Tim? You freekin' rock man. Tim drives all the way out to Timber in the SNOW and stays all day to provide hot food and he isn't getting rich for doing this folks. If you see Tim give him a big thanks for all that he does for us disc golfers. :bowing:
And YES! I so totally kicked Scott Hills a$$. :trophy: As did all Rec players! Props to all the players for coming out and supporting the 2nd Slosh event. I am looking forward to playing some good old fashioned SUMMER golf though. :wink2:
The ride home was slow but made it in my 2 wheel drive pickup. I'm hoping that everyone had a safe trip home as well.
Bob
ps...........I've got add that I know how much Scott wanted to play this event and not being able to come out today has to have been hard him. Still got to give him some grief though. If not me then who else? :yay:

Mad props to Jason and Carrie. Thanks again guys. I hope you get to relax all day today. Nice 50 yesterday too Jason. That was a sick number out there. James too.
Way to go Cody Hardman! Now I know what it means to watch a terrific player win down the stretch. Right on Brother.
To the rest of the MA3 gang, thanks guys for showing up. This helps indicate that the MA3 division should be offered in all Oregon PDGA events. It presented a more competitive opportunity for several players.
Thanks again to all those who helped yesterday.

Hey thanks so much to Jason & Carrie for making this an awsome event. Also a big thanks to everyone else who made this possible. A special thanks to the Sausage guy, even though we brought a cold lunch we purchased some dogs from him. That really hit the spot on a cold day. Last but not least thanks to my husband Steve who was our driver, Darcy and I would not have made it if it was not for him, ambulance driver for our dog who cut her paw on some glass or something a minute after getting out of the car, cell phone searcher after Kirstin lost hers somewhere inbetween 6 & 9 on the sencond round (he was really bummed he could not find it), chain putter oner on Darcy's car back at the house (he tried for an hour in the freezing cold without gloves and could not get those stupid things on, but Darcy made it back home without).

I am going to post the payouts on the PDGA site in the next hour or two. As I mentioned at the end of the tourney, we need to get a list of scrip recipients to Next Adventure before scrip can be redeemed. We were unable to deliver the list today due to the weather and I don't think we will be get it there tomorrow either. We will keep you updated on the status of the list as the week progresses. Thanks for your patience!

I think that Sean Phillips is going to win. He seems throw without a bunch of extra movement. I think that will translate into good throws in icy environments.
Thanks for the vote. Sorry I let you down. I hope you didn't loose any money  I couldn't keep up with the kid, THIS TIME :shooting::rockon:
I had a great time. The Pinkals did a great job. :cheerleader:

Scrip list still has not been delivered to Next Adventure. If the weather holds up, I may be able to get it down there tomorrow morning.
Hope everyone is surviving the "Arctic Blast". Carie and I are escaping the house tonight by taking the bus down to the Blazer game.

Jason is turning in the scrip list today at Next Adventure...we've finally dug ourselves out of North Portland!
You do not need to have your 'receipt' since we did not give them out at the end of the tournament. Giving your name/ID should suffice.
Happy Shopping! And more importantly, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Festivus, Winter Solstice and Happy Kwanzaa to all out there.

Cool Terry, I also wish I could have been there, especially since my work's company party got rescheduled, but they did not decide to do so until noon. I did not make the Adair Series either, but I certainly would have liked to. I have also played a little Intermediate now and then, and I just had to give you some grief. Way to go, Carquest of Sheridan!
