I have always thought that we need some sort of form players can fill out post event about their experiences at our tournaments. The days of pro payout only being the bench mark needs to go the way of the dodo bird.
The idea is to post this on google for each individual event that requests it. Then player will be given a password to access their particular events survey.

These results will be made available to the TD, the state rep (if pDGA event) and series representatives. This is a first draft and ideas will be considered and implemented if deemed necessary. thanks jub

That's a decent start. I would recommend rating each topic on a scale of one to five. That will make it a lot easier to average scores.

i think that is a great idea. two local tourneys last year i will not be playing again and it would be nice to let the directors know why without sounding like i am just complaining. I think it is important to let a director know what everyone thought and what they liked/ didn't like without sounding unappritiative of the hard work they put in. I pesonally have never given any feedback to a director because they have so many people complaining about every little detail all weekend

Also a good idea to survey money type stuff both for the event, for vendors and for other local buisness... Information about spending could be very helpful in getting sponsors.

Those are all good ideas the format is one I am familiar with
1-5 baskets could be the basic choices.
The trick will be
A to get TD's to ask
B players to respond
C TD's Actually listen to results

The idea of the spending should be done separately and often

I would recommend a scale of 1 to 4, if you use 1 to 5 you get too many fence sitters marking 3, 1 to 4 makes them make a decision.

I think there should be more emphasis about the money and value of the tournament.

If you pay $45 to play in the tournament, and the payouts suck, the TD needs to be made aware of this.

A decent players pack, decent trophies, and generous payouts in each division is a big factor for a lot of players.

I totally think the sheet idea is awesome. I would love to give TD's a way of seeing the feedback about how their tourney could be improved.

The only problem is having a TD listen to the players about it. Especially if the tournament itself was having major issues. I played three last year and everyone of them was great. Would of loved to be able to show my appreciation with a spread sheet though.

Payouts are nice but not the main reason I play a tournament. Bragging rights are more important to me. Of course since I'm only playing am, the payouts don't really effect me at the moment. One day I'm sure I'll have somethings to say about poor payouts for an expensive tournament. When I reach that level of play that is.

Agreed and the rating should state:

How did we do?

Ace.......Birdie.........Par............Bogey?

If you're going to do this survey process, I suggest using a service like Survey Monkey to handle all of the processing and have it available online rather than mess around with paper and data entry. It also allows some anonymity for respondents. Yes, I know some players don't have internet access so you could have a paper form for them if the TD was really willing to enter their responses.

Numerical responses are easier to average. I suppose you could do combine both:

1. Ace
2. Birdie
3. Par
4. Bogey
5. Bob

An online survey sounds the best to me, anybody know what they cost?

As far as the number of options, I like an odd number. I like the middle ground for things that were average.

Survey Monkey can be free but not for the level I think you would want. There are several online survey companies out there and maybe there's one less expensive.

BA The value issues are going to be tricky. That's why I threw it out here for discussion (amongst people who actually care about what they are trying to put out there.)

I like the basket idea and an odd number.

I am also thinking about how long after the event do/should I wait to publish the results?

I am also thinking about how long each should be open to reply too. I am thinking one week now, Maybe 10 days but not two weeks.

Having hard copies at the event is not a bad idea at all. Yeah it's more work but it's instant and unfiltered.

Maybe we could use the rating system in conjunction with G's calendar. Link the results to the events.

Note to TD's You will be one of two with the password before your event. You alone will share the password at your event in person to your players. Hopefully this should allow only the players who actually attended to reply to the survey.

Keep em comin. jub

That Free Online surveys system isn't any cheaper than Survey Monkey for similar services. I'm pretty sure you're going to want to download results for your own analysis and that's how these survey companies get you to upgrade. However, if you can get someone to enroll as a student, it looks like you can get it for $10/month instead of $20.

OMG!!!

What an awesome idea and what a freakin' sweet rough draft!!! :bowing: I am so impressed with your layout and organization; seriously, man

As an occasional TD/Co-TD, I LOVE THIS IDEA DOWN TO IT'S CORE!!! :yay:

Its so obvious . . . how is an event supposed to get any better and/or grow without the TDs and event organizers being made aware of what they did wrong, right, or average in running and promoting each said event? :chinscratch:
__________________________________________________ ______________

So, I've a coupla ideas and offers . . . from DiscGolfOregon.com

First of all, what if DGO was willing to host the aforementioned spreadsheet/survey process? We have SOOO much room to handle many online projects (man hours aside; I volunteer :seeya: ):yay::rockon::shocked::yay::rockon:

My personal thought . . . What if we were to schedule at least one single face to face meeting for interested parties regarding this post-event survey, sometime soon ? ? ? Wherein we could attempt to finalize a carbon/online copy :yay: Say we hold the meeting in Portland, 200 miles north for me, but centralized to the effort ? ? ? . . . and of course, let's discuss our basic ideas online before attending this meeting that needs scheduled ASAP for the 2010 touring year. :biggrin2:

Oh, and payout is VERY important in concluding the most accurate results within said surveys; SCRIP or CASH payout is of equal mention. :wink2:

It' would be presumptuous to ask about PP with just one question. Rate your PP? So how do we do it? In the INWS the TD's agree to only "retail it" x 1.5 raw Cost (disc Tee) $12, PP value $18

I do have away to (at least at the event) about payout for all divisions
ask if payout was posted? when? after 1st round, after 2nd round , before awards, never saw em This also give TD chance to respond by posting results for all divisions online afterwards

functional flyer
by that I mean not just when, where, how much, etc but transparency in posting of fees to be deducted form all entries.

Communication Q's
Like did you need to contact the TD? Y/N
How? Phone, email,in person
How quick was response? instant, next day, finally, never
Look at updated google after 9AM today

Jub, I tried to access this link from inside Boeing. I got the nasty "Access Denied" message. The Boeing internet police are probably on their way over to cuff me now. Was there any porn on this survey? If so, I will check it out when I get home.

So I have been using Google Apps for a little while now and have a form up on my site I use to collect data for our current course construction project. Its a "VCard" to collect scores but it also has a short survey at the end.

The site and the forms stuff is all free through google and the form, on top of being hosted like I have it it, can also be email out to participants.

If your care to check it out go to http://masoncountydiscgolf.com
Navigate to Courses, Shelton Springs, VCard

and if your really bored check out our Tournament Center, MCDG Series. We are still putting the last touches on the schedule and rounding up sponsors but if you felt like dropping a knowledge bomb on us after reading it feel free to PM me.
