View Full Version : Bad form

I was on Meadow Ridge on Sunday and was disappointed that some Bud drinkers couldn't seem to locate the numerous opportunities to USE the recycling barrels. Green footprint aside, cause if'in you want to live in garbage fine, but come on folks pick up after yourselves. Not to mention bad form, it's just plain disrespectful to Bob, knock it off! please.

I can't stand litter on a course as it is, but on private property...well, that's literally straight up trashy behavior.

Somehow I doubt the Bud-drinking litterers are regulars on this forum.

I was there on Sunday and noticed this as well, I couldn't dispose of all of that stuff myself as the other guys I went down there with were in a hurry to play as much as possible. I find it sad, especially looking at how awesome and beautiful Horning's is that someone would actually litter there.

Thanks for this post Jay, I've been busy upgrading the baskets on the Canyon course and have not been through the Meadow for a bit. I'll make a swing through there this week and clean it up. You're right, it's very frustrating, trying to provide and then folks not using the garbage cans just because they don't want to carry a can that they already have been carrying any farther. Thanks for picking up what you did, I appreciate it:cheers:.

What's your littering policy, Bob? Are they 86'd if you catch them?

I started playing with a dude recently who always always picks up any litter he sees... it inspired me to do the same. I know it's not our garbage and I sure wish people would pull their heads out of their butts and knock it off, but somehow I just don't think that's going to happen... so, all of us who don't have our heads up out butts and who give two sh*ts about what Bob has done for us, lets all work together to keep the place clean and pretty... why else do we haul around those huge bags on our backs anyway, right?

peace threw disc golf,

I couldn't agree with you more Emma, I try to get all of the big stuff I see no matter where I play. Here at Terrace Creek, we have cleaned up our park in a huge way, it used to be such a dump with litter and vandalism evident everywhere but it's getting much better, so remember even one or a couple of people CAN make a huge difference.

Actually yes, but I've played around with making them eat it too. Tough to catch them, just like thieves, they don't do it when you're looking. :shooting:

Picked up a 24 ounce bud can on the canyon as well. I wonder if it the same people.

Just like the story of the guy picking starfish up off the beach after a huge storm and tossing them back in the water... there are millions of starfish scattered along the beach, he can't possibly save them all, so does it really matter I ask him... he picks up a small starfish and holds it close to my face... "It matters to this one," he says and tosses it back into the waves...

Every time I buy beer at a convenience store they insist on giving it to me in a bag (plastic, no less...) While I find that intrinsically offensive, I also hate the litter on the courses.

So I take the bags and throw them down in the drink pockets of my bag and every time I walk up on one of these messes, I pick it up.

Kinda pisses me off though, I was through the Meadows and the little course on Saturday and while I ran out of space before I hit the big can cache mentioned, I did manage to get a good assemblage of trash off the course...sigh.

Humans - can't live with them, and they don't compost so good either.

Perhaps equally offensive as the littering is the tarnishing of a great course with such an awful excuse for beer.

I noticed it too. I think a few more cans out would help some. There needs to be one somewhere between hole 1-9.

Well when you are at T #4 you can just head down the hill on 13. Time to start playing "Bob carries the bag" rounds, and being will to say something to folks when you see it on the course.

Yes you could but on the Canyon course which is much shorter there are 5 places to put your cans but on the meadow ridge course there is only 3. I would say that you can pic stuff up but more places to put it would not hurt and would help. right now they are 1, 9, and 13. I would add one to 3 and 16 which would give you a good spread on the course.

That might help, but puts pressure on Bob to go around and empty the cans. The fact is, it would probably not help unless the lowlifes just happened to finish their beer while standing next to a can. The whole littering thing blows my mind. You brought the can onto the course in your bag - why can't you take it out the same way? :headbang:

But it is not just Bob that helps clean the cans. They are a few others that though out the year go around when we are out there and help clean the cans. More in the summer when there is at least one of the Crew out there most of the time. I am one of the people that does this though out the year.

I know for me is usally bring more drinks then my bag will hold for the new course. I then end up carrying them till hole 9 if I don't finish them by the time I get to 1. It would be nice not to have to carry them so long and have a place before 9 that was on the way. I don't like walking across the farways and down the hill to 13 cause there are enough hills already on the course.

I'm just waiting to see someone litter... I'll read 'em the riot act... totally bust out my super disappointed Teacher Emma voice and tell them they're making bad choices and maybe need to take some time in the quiet area to chill out until they're ready to make good choices and take care of the golf course... ha! Somehow I don't think it would be quite so effective with bud drinkers as two year olds...

It's not the hippies anymore than it's the rednecks. And yea oh whaaa... too many hills...(jk) Like I said, if folks want to live in steeped in garbage away from Horning's, fine. But we're guests on another man's property, 3 bucks a day gives us the right to play DG not treat it like shit. I know it's not you Hip, it's the level of disrespect that people consider socially acceptable that gets me going.

I am totally with you there. It sucks to come up and find a pile of cans. 1 day found a whole 12 pack on the canyon course and the box was on 12 and a huge pile on 14 by the tee pad with a can like 20 feet away. We had so many cans that day. Also why do they throw them in the bushes.

Perhaps equally offensive as the littering is the tarnishing of a great course with such an awful excuse for beer.

Bud and most corporate beers use rice as a base grain to cut costs. A player on Juel course in Redmond, WA, was ready to throw from T-1 and noticed some empty Bud cans and stopped and picked them up and started marching them to the nearest trash can, he was muttering loudly enough so that I could hear him. He was saying it figures the guys who drink the crap beer also are inclined to litter. Good beer drinkers are more concientious, they care more about their beer, about supporting their local brewery and care more about the environment and have respect for other people.

That's seems like a logical leap of faith to me. I find plenty of "good" beer empties on the course.

It would be much simpler if people just didn't drink on the course, you don't need to drink beer to have a good time, but I'm the @$$hole when I say things like that according to most people.

I just don't understand why they could carry IN full beer cans/bottles and can't carry OUT empties.

erp
January 28th, 2010, 12:48 PM
There is no answer to this - I find more Pabst cans than anything else with those camo miller cans running a close second, followed by inversion.

I actually got a co-worker into the game and was astonished that this seemingly normal, ex-mormon, eagle scout, would take his empties and 'hide' them on the course. when we called him on it he copped an attitude like he was somehow entitled to drop his bottles wherever he liked.

He's no longer a friend and has given up disc golf as far as I can tell.

Some people are just plain douchebags.

I just don't understand why they could carry IN full beer cans/bottles and can't carry OUT empties.

You will usually see me with a can of pbr when I'm on the course. The reason I choose cans is because I can crush them and put them back in my bag without them taking up so much room. I lose my nickel but can still recycle them. Bottles are heavy and clink around too much.

I was brought up with the "pack it in, pack it out" mentality. I've been thinking lately though, if a course has recycle bins, should I use those instead of packing out? Does the money from the containers go back to the course?

sillybizz
January 28th, 2010, 02:47 PM
I really can't understand litter, especially at a place like Horning's Hideout.

1. There are recycle bins and trash bins all over the place, it's not too far to walk to take care of your bottles/cans/garbage.

2. It's so beautiful and people have put forth so much effort into the course that I couldn't imagine wanting to make the place messy.

3. Only disc golfers are to blame, there are no users but us, so any litter falls on us. It's not like at a park course where other people might have littered and we could blame it on them.

4. It makes more work for people that have to clean up after your mess.

There could be a trash can on every single hole and it still wouldn't make that "Guy" dispose of his cans. It's people like the ones on this forum that will have to continue to pick up after the pigs that we play behind.

I will continue to , as long as I live... and wish many aces for the others that
continue to do so.

Exactly - if they were playing a round inside a trashcan, they'd manage to throw the cans OUT of it.

On a brighter note, I threw 54 holes out there today and saw little if any litter and had a great time.

Although being +1 after the little and twice through the middle course isn't exactly a stellar performance. Just another beautiful day in a beautiful place...
