It looks like I'm running the DRO on the weekend of April 10th and 11th. It will again be a B tier, and part of the Inland NW Series.
I'll be putting up a flyer soon, at my site, www.stimpiridge.com , and at the SDGA website. I hope to see more "out-of-towners" this year.
We haven't been a WA State Series event for a few years, and I miss you Wetsiders.
The course has been pared down to an 18 holer, from 21, so I've only got room for 90 players this year. 95 with a ghost group, so sign up early.

Stimpi, in your post you mentioned the DRO will be on April 18 - 19, but the calendar on this site says the weekend before. Just curious as to which weekend it will be so I can update the GCF calendar.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it, but you can count on a strong showing of MT'ers being there!! Gonna be another great year for the INWS!!!!!

I apologize to everyone. I was considering moving to the 17th-18th, but I think the previous weekend works better, so...
The 9th Annual Downriver Open will be held on April 10th and April 11th, that's my final answer, Regis

I'm hoping to play those three plus the nuclear meltdown and finals. Now if I just make all my twenty and in putts....

I'm going to try and play the DRO, LCO, Nuclear Meltdown, Beaver State Fling and the CHump Challenge if it's run again this year. Plus the Chilli Bowl and Corbin Parks first annual Ice Bowl.

I just returned from a wonderful road trip through Norcal, to find a pile of Downriver Open registrations, and a few phone calls. There seems to be plenty of interest so I suspect I'll sell out this year.
Better sign up early. There are links at my site.

The 9th Annual Downriver Open is officially half filled.
Get those registrations in soon. I've had a lot of calls and emails. Inquiring minds want to know, and play.
I predict it will fill by April 1st.
Now, we'll see.

I've got 73 players registered, as of 7:00pm Saturday, March 27th.
I suspect I'll fill up tomorrow at the Downriver Doubles at Noon. I'll have to save 5 spots for Monday's mail registrations.
I'll announce the waiting list, should that be necessary, here at the forum.

By the way, the first round will be Festival Grouping, which means each player has a 4 in 89 chance of playing with David Feldberg the first round. Oh, and they also have a 4 in 89 chance of playing with ME, as well. Too bad for those 4. n'yuk.

I agree that there should not be a ghost group. Tourney pace is slow enough as it is, no need to punish further the pace of the entire show because some people couldn't/wouldn't sign up early enough. The cap was 90, not 95 or more. Just my 2 cents as non-TD:cop:

I have no intention of adding a ghost group.
The starting groups are made, and the event is nearly ready to go. I don't feel like messing up a good thing by adding more players.

Saturday, check in early, warm up, player packs for Ams should be ready. Players meeting at 9:30, teeoff at 10.
Sunday, we'll start off early, to finish early, to allow out-of-towners to travel early, and the rest of us will have time for more golf.

Probably a little late to post this, but I can put up some travelers if anyone hasn't made arrangements yet.
I have an extra bed, a couch that I have slept on comfortably (I'm 6'3''), and floor space. The only caveat is that you probably shouldn't be allergic to dogs.
I live about 5 minutes from Downriver.

Thanks for a great tournament Stimpi and friends. Downriver is a fun tournament course. You can go way down or way up in a blink of an eye on the fast and unforgiving greens. I have always had fun playing with the Spokane golfers and can tell that the the size and skill of the local disc golf scene is continuing to grow. See you next time

I had a great time and collectively took myself from a stellar round to abysmal failure in the blink of an eye. First advanced tournament and I ended dead last in my group lol. Fast greens this weekend. Faster wind gusts and my head just not being in tournament mode made for shite disc golf. Started strong and ended badly and the only person to blame is myself. I didn't play the way I know I can and really just feel like I should of played better. Just kept filling my mind with nonsense. If I'd shot for par I would've gotten it. I wanted above a 950 rated round and I shot 850's lol.
Had a great time. Had a ton of fun meeting new players from out of town. Promise to do it better the next time. Maybe even place in the top ten.

Downriver DGC has been my home course for all of its ten years; its just the past 6 or 7 that I've been way too busy out at the Mound. The fast greens had me double-clutching all weekend long and I kept chipping up short because of it. That kept leaving me in uncomfortable putting situations where usually I'll just opt for the routine chip and tap in the short putt.... All the folks I played with were having the time of their lives; Celeste, Paul P., Timmy, Jim C., Jenny Saunders, FRANK, and John from the Dalles. I was in good company the whole time. Thanks, Steve, for the Best DRO ever. It's good to know our original "Big Blow-Out" is still in good hands. Your Friend, Gordy.:yay:

Thanks Gordy, and everyone for the compliments. Nancy gets a lot of the credit. As far as preparation for the tournament, she was great, and her organizational skills helped get everything in line for a smooth event. Then, she ran the Stimpi Ridge rolling pro shop, and directed traffic, and took pictures, all while I got to boss everyone around and pretend to play golf. I didn't play very well, partly because of the fatigue of running the event, and being distracted by the event itself. Funny thing was, I never felt needed as a Marshall, or Official, and I just had a fun weekend of disc golf, apparently like everyone else. Thanks for all your respect and cooperation and care for the course and the sport, itself.
I really dug the Final 16 Skins round. Thanks for the show, Dave, Jesse, Jack, and even that old geezer, Marty, put on a run for the dough, but, with style, Dave walks away with every penny.
Thanks Dave, for, as Jon Graff put it, "giving us hope" of playing as you do, and for bringing a taste to many locals that haven't yet "toured", of what the PDGA Tour events can really be like, and showing them the skills that are available to them.
I have my favorite annual events, and I attempted to imitate the feel of those events in the Downriver Open. The entire weekend ran like clockwork, starting a few minutes early on Saturday, and a few "fashionable" minutes late on Sunday, and I didn't feel many "down times" or impatient competitors milling about. In fact, it was often hard to tell when to get folks away from the perimeter activities, and focus on the tournament.
All I can say is... we didn't finish in the dark, either day, and there was only one injury, and that was our President viciously attacking an innocent bystander with his newly found backhand technique improvement.
Rather than string him up, I think we should give him a big thank you, not for the attack, but because I believe he (and Jack Wardian) was the main reason we had World Champion, David Feldberg, visit our city, teach us some skills, and school us in other ways as well. I could see how awestruck many players were, and I know we all learned something. Thanks Jeff.
I suspect Spokane is heading for it's first A tier "Supertour" event with all the course additions and improvements. I look forward to the day when Spokane is the center of a disc golf Mecca.
P.S. Pick up trash.

The Spokesman-Review ran an article about the DRO, but sent everyone to People's Park.
Apparently that's all they know about disc golf. Chasing "guys in the bushes" out of parks. Don't you wish they had a clue that we have a club, 3 courses, and two PDGA B tier events per year, in this city.
Do you think if ball golf held a Downriver Open that they would send people to Indian Canyon Golf Course?
Spokesman quote:"A world champion in 2008, Feldberg will compete against a host of local disc hurlers in the Downriver Open disc golf tournament today and Sunday at People’s Park. "
I wonder how many people went there, only to feel duped?
Also, I was assured by KXLY that there would be tv coverage.
The media in this town is a joke.

Besides the wind, the fast greens and the glinting-thru-the-clouds sun, the three basic elements of my own game dictated my fortune; bad luck, lack of skill, and just plain ol stupid. But it sure was fun. One of Downriver's elements is the way it weaves in and out of itself. In one light this is a liability to smooth play. In another light it gives all the players on the course to witness the play of others and to check in on their friends fortunes. You might catch a landmark meltdown; You may have witnessed some monster putts while waiting for your turn down by old hole #7.Who didn't see a piece of Dave's magic while stopping to check out the cards? The best way to capture all these moments is from a room with a view and Downriver is always the house of windows for me.:biggrin2:

I am guessing the DRO results never got finalized on the PDGA since my player rating didn't change at all with this most recent update. My rating should have tanked a bit after that, not that that part hurts my feelings at all.
