Hey Ladies we have some news about the 3rd annual Chick Flick for 2010. The dates we are looking at are August 7th & 8th. We are currently working on a location, so stay tuned for that. We are also looking into the possibility of PDGA sactioning for the Sunday tournament. This year the Chick Flick will have co-tournament directors:

Celeste Scandiffio & Cindy McMahan who will both be TDing for the first time.

We will have some of the ladies who have been helping out for the last two years as Chick Flick board members to help out. We are currently working out the details of how the structure of the 2010 Chick Flick event will be, but we will definitely need some volunteers. More news to come after the first of the year.

Cindy :)

Believe me, we've requested low weights..which means low 170s to Innova. When we ordered Champ Destroyers for the first Chick Flick, the lowest they sent were 2 169g.

Boo! Innova told me they usually don't make CFRs that light. Whatevs. :pullhair:

Hey Shannon awesome. :yay: We will have online registration open soon at:

http://www.stumptowndiscgolf.org/

We will post the link here, and on our facebook page & discgolfscene pages too once it goes live.

It is a PDGA event, but you do not need to be a PDGA member to play. Normally non PDGA member pay an extra $10 to register for PDGA events, however our event has qualified for special sanctioning, and the non member fee for our event is only $5. The extra fee will be charged when you sign up at the Stumptown site.

For our players packs we will have star valks & sidewinders, champion orcs & tee birds, R-pro bosses, pro kantanas, dx aviars, dx sharks. :cheerleader:

I've got a question, and I can imagine others might have the same question. I've got some extreme newbie friends who might be interested in the workshops, but wouldn't be at all interested in the tournament. Would the PDGA fee apply if they didn't do the tournament? If they felt like they were required to play in the tournament, I think they probably wouldn't want to do the workshops.

Actually the PDGA is covering our entire event including the scheduled events on Saturday. Remeber the recreational playes will be playing the PDGA rounds on Sunday on the shorter Highland course. There will be lots of women there who have never played. Tell them to come out it is going to be a fun time.

... and this event is really about helping get over this weird thing where women are not interested in the tournaments... am i right? the ladies will get to play in the appropriate division on an appropriate course, they will have help and guidance learning the rules and such and hopefully get over some of the intimidation factor that somehow surrounds tournaments... i've played for 12 years and only recently started playing sanctioned events and it is the best thing i have done for myself in terms of my disc golfing life...

... please help spread the word that they really should be interested!

Here is the stamp for my husbands tourney here in GA, would love to trade CFR for CFR or 2 or 3 of our DX Players discs for one of the stars...whatever works for you.

I think I had to read that 2-3x before I realized what I was reading!
Darr's post finally made the light bulb go off.
I know JMan knows an Aviar is not a discraft disc.
Is a change in the air?
JMan's new tag line might read "Discraft baby, er, or one of those better Innova discs."

How's the effort at breaking the all-time female-only tourney field size record?

I've been playing about a year and just heard of this Chick Flick at one of my all time favorite courses. I was going to register but am a little confused about the divisions. I usually just play with one other girl and she started playing just a month after me. We're both pretty equally as good though we don't know if we're any good compared to anyone else. Is there a guidline to which division you should chose? I don't have any idea the difference between master, grandmaster, open, or the others. Any help?

what kind of scores are you putting up? do you play the canyon course or only on the highlands? can you hang at meadow ridge?

i would guess if you've been playing about a year you should play intermediate, but maybe advanced... also search around on the pdga website, they have a guide of sorts that tells you what divisions to play in... i can tell you that masters is for folks aged 40+ and grandmasters is for folks aged 50+... open is another way of saying pro ... hopefully that helps... give us a little more info and maybe we can help a little bit more!

The first time we went we played the canyon course and every time since we/ve played meadow. I've never actually played highland because it's so short and we go to hornings for the big courses. We've never kept score at hornings so I can't tell you that, but we usually go to orchard and we often make par on most of the holes but not always, and birdies are rare and always a surprise. Aces are not even in the picture lol

if you are there to take care of the kiddo and let your wife play and your kiddo is cool with that (that mom is busy) and you guys are confident that the kiddo is cool to camp then it should not be too much... horning's is a great place for families and between the mass amounts of people, the peacocks, the pond and ducks and stuff and the little playground and the vast expanses to run in your daughter should have a great time... but mom's gonna need to be able to focus worry free on the tournament in order for all of you to have the best time possible... make it happen for her, dude!

Check out the awesome trophies we are having custom made. Celeste's friend Abe is making these for us. The smaller round is actually bamboo, and the detail is amazing. The final finished ones will have black plates, and the back pieces of wood will be a larger diameter.

50+, but if you have been playing awhile and want a little more competition you might want to join the masters field. The Grandmasters will be on the shorter Highland course, and Ma is a super beginner. Plus the grandmasters will only be playing for a trophy where the masters will be playing for trophy and script from Next Adventure. Either way we really hope you can make it. :)

I was reading up on the pdga rules since I've never been in a tournament before, kept score, or followed any set rules when playing for that matter. I was wondering though if it's true that I have to take a rules quiz? It said for any national tour event so I'm thinking this probably isn't but i wanted to make sure on that.

The rules proficiency exam is only for pros playing in National Tour events I do believe. You don't have to take any test to play in the Chick Flick. :)

The rules proficiency test is required to play in any NT event. It is not required for anything else, but it's not a bad idea to be proficient in the rules.

...i'm really glad that you have decided to play in this event, arletta, and that you seem really ready to take your game to the next level... part of the beauty of this sport lies within the rules and the etiquette and for you to get to meet folk who have been playing for sometime and start to learn the rules and such in a really laidback, casual environment i think is simply going to increase your enjoyment of this amazing thing called golf...

Thanks chica! It just so happens that this weekend will be the tail end of a week off for me. If I understand correctly, Sunday is the only day where caddying will really be necessary? I'd like to help out as a caddy, but being a long drive and vacation time for me, I want to be sure I'd have plenty of opportunity to throw some discs as well.

Yes for sure there will be some ladies who would appreciate a caddy on Sunday. We could use some help Saturday too, but not necessarily the entire day lots of time for the dudes to throw. On Saturday the Highland, and Meadow Ridge will be open the Canyon course will be closed because we will be using that course for our clinic and casual round. On Sunday Meadow Ridge will be open, and maybe the Highland depending on how many groups we will have for that course. The Canyon course will be closed Sunday for the tournament rounds.

Remeber we have a great deal for guest/caddies to sign up $15 that includes camping Friday & Saturday, lunch Saturday & Sunday, day use fee Saturday & Sunday plus a t-shirt for the first 50 who register. Right now I think we have 25 registered.

Oh, and that's a typo that Meadow and Highland will be closed on Sunday.
Meadow Ridge will be open to play all weekend.
Canyon will be closed during the day on both Saturday and Sunday.
Highland will be open to play all day Saturday, but depending on the numbers, we may need to close it on Sunday during the tournament rounds.

Hey we appreciate all of you who were concerned for Kim this afternoon. Sorry if I got a little snappy at those that were stopping by to see how she was doing, I was pretty concerned as well.
She has 5 cool stitches above her left eye to cement the tough chick award for the weekend.
She is feeling a little cursed since that is the second Hornings event in a row she got hit by a wayward disc on her last hole of the tourney. But she wants to play again so good on her. other than being wiped out and in need of rest, she is going to be good as new. She wanted to let everyone know how much fun she had and appreciated all of the awesome sponsors.

... couldn't have asked for a better chick flick... my first time at this event, my first time playing pro in a BIG field of women... it was lovely and so much fun... i gotta say, that last round on the lead card... i've never seen so much ass slappin' go down... thank goodness my caddy finally reminded me it was a tournament and i wanted to win or else i don't know that i could have held onto second place...

... and that reminds me... thank you to all of the caddies, that was a super cool experience and just added this sort of special vip feeling to the whole thing (which of course is just my style)...

... and props to cindy mcmahan for doing a stellar job co-tding and to manage to play such solid golf and bag the win at the same time...

... celeste, you said you just liked having me around, well, i like being around... thank you for all of your hardwork and i really hope to do my part in helping to put this thing on next year...

That was indeed a good time and a well run event. I talked to a bunch of women that were only out for their first or second times...to get that many newbies out there is no small feat! And like Jeff said, lots of solid golf going on in the leader group, and some really interesting vocabulary too! I picked up a few new ones, ranging from schoolroom-safe to making a sailor blush. :D Great job to everyone involved with this, good vibes all around.

Gotta second the previous posts. This was my wife's first tourney and our first Chick Flick. What can I say, we had a stellar time and will be planning this tourney for our future summer events. Met some of the coolest and fun people as well as inspiring my wife to wanna play more and improve her game. It was awesome to not have to play and just be there to empower and cheer the ladies on. To all the organizers, you guys really know how to put on a great event. High fives to all of you. I wanna give a special shout out and thank you to the Gorman's for turning us on to this exceptional DG community. Thanks to all for the good time.

Finally, I am back to the earth after the awesome weekend at Chick Flick!! :yay: The event was well done run by Cindy and Celeste with their awesome crew!! You guys rock! I enjoyed playing with new faces, and having blast time! The best moment was getting my Canyon Course personal best score, 59 during the 2nd round, and the previous was 67.

Had a wonderful time except for my second throw on the last hole, when I clocked Kim below her eyebrow with a griplock from about, what fifteen feet away? She was so gracious about it. It had to hurt like all get-out.

Stitches? Stitches? Oh, oh, dear.

I'm so sorry.

I posted this to the Hornings thread, but then thought it should be here. If anyone (including Next Adventure) wants a high resolution of this, email me at bob@horningshideout.com . And does anyone know how to post a video?

Sue, don't worry about it - we all shank a disc from time to time (personally, I'm an expert at that particular throw). No serious damage done, and my doc did a great job with the stitches; it's already healing quickly.

Thanks to Cindy, Celeste, Carrie and all who worked on this year's ChickFlick - it was awesome and I had such a great time! You rock!!

That's me standing in the back with the pink shirt on and I want to say that's my red disk going in...but can't be sure :)

You are a gem, Kim. Thank you.
Which reminds me: One of the best parts of the ChickFlick was meeting new people like you.

Suggestion for next year's clinic: A 12-step program for Klingons.

That was one of the best weekends I think I've ever had. I'm exhausted, my feet don't want to touch the ground again for a week, and I can barely move my arm enough to type this, but it was all worth it! Everyone was so amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better group of women to experience my first ever tournament with. While I knew I was competing in a tournament, I never really felt a competative vibe. Everyone was so supportive of everyone else and I could feel a real sisterhood amongst the players. Thank you to Cindy and Celeste and everyone else who worked hard to make this all possible and the awesome pros who gave the amazing clinics. I can't wait to do it all again next year

That's hilarious! Especially considering my car even got hit by a 90-degree late release drive off the x-step clinic station!

(It was dented a little bit, but I wrote it off as a sacrificial contribution to the Chick Flick.)

I thought for a moment it was me that hit your car, but I was in the forehand clinic when my late release slammed into someones bumper lol

oops. sorry, gawain. it was just that the ladies didn't want you to have to walk so far down that damn hill, shaggin' discs for 'em...

... and remember... it was x-step and reach back... nuthin' to do with release... i'd blame it on vieve's assistant... who was that girl, anyway?

;)

peace,
