I just signed up, and I am putting out the call (you hearing me Gibsons?) for some Portland support for this event! Let's carpool up, and head out early. Looks like about a 2-hour run from my place, same as Dexter, let's do this! Sounds like it will be a great Ice Bowl for a great cause at a great course!

OMG!! So excited!! :yay::yay::yay:

If you guys only knew what you're getting into . . .

9 holes, OVER 3200 THROWING FEET!!!

Bring confidence and skill or at least floating plastic to I-5 Exit 163, Curtin, Oregon. Baskets will be visible from the freeway! :whistler:
See http://www.discgolforegon.com/index.php?option=com_hwdvideoshare&task=viewvideo&Itemid=59&video_id=94 for a quick video example :waaah:

I designed this course with the PRO/OPEN player in mind; however, one will notice that there are shorter bail-outs on every water hazard hole to keep the hard-core layout at least a little rec friendly, and of course to allow for plenty of decision making by any level player.

This is a premier design and is the most technical 9-hole layout in Oregon, among other states. YOU do not want to miss PASS CREEK PARK DGC's inaugural event. Be among the first! Online registration is still available as will be day-of registrations.
Online Registration: http://discgolforegon.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=2&Itemid=64

And did I mention added cash for Pros? Players' packs for all? Free lunch? And one helluva time? Come enjoy the watered and mowed greens . . .

Give myself a call at 5416430774 for any further questions.
Be there or be square :biggrin2:

A Few Questions:

1: How to accommodate 60 players with 9 baskets?
2: Will a player list be published ahead of time?
3: Will age- or gender-protected divisions be offered?
4: Will Ice Bowl 2010 official merchandise be included/available?

Remember your 5 (or more) cans of food!

DiscGolfOregon3
January 5th, 2010, 03:46 PM
A Few Answers.

1. Very carefully :wink2: . . . in reality, 5 per pad with 3 ghost groups in strategic locations . . . this of course is if 60 people show up :chinscratch:
2. I will ask Nate to get right on that. He will probably post it on Discgolforegon.com and NWDiscGolfNews.com :whistler:
3. We are offering two divisions this year, Am and Pro. If enough Juniors or Women show up or pre-register, we may be able to get a little creative in this department :wink2:
4. All Am entries will receive an official Ice Bowl 2010 disc, Pass Creek Ice Bowl 2010 minis, and other swag. All Pro entries will receive the same minus the disc (more pro payout, that way :wink2: ) And yes, some official merchandise will be available for purchase and prizes along with ALOT of custom-dyed plastic

And YES, bring your 5 or more canned food items to receive $5 off your entry fee!! :biggrin2:

Only 2 divisions?

I read here: http://discgolforegon.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=12&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=64 that:
"This is to register for the AM side of the Pass Creek Ice Bowl. All AM's will receive a Pass Creek Ice Bowl AM players Pack, and will play for Trophies and Prizes.
There will be an AM and ADV divisions with trophies for each division."

Then I read here: http://discgolforegon.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=11&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=64 that:
"This is to register for the Pro side of the Pass Creek Ice Bowl. All Pro's will receive a Pass Creek Ice Bowl Pro players Pack, and will play for added cash."

That implied to me that there are
TWO Amateur divisions, and
ONE Pro division, making
THREE divisions total

Am I mistaken? Is the posted information correct? Have I misinterpreted it? Thanks in advance for your reply.

 I don't remember discussing this with Nate, could have been during one our many late-night discussions. :chinscratch:

We will discuss this in the morning and reply ASAP. The lack of pre-registrations replaced by intended day-ofs makes it difficult for us to plan ahead for split Am divisions. But, I can guarantee that everyone will be catered to. Final word, I don't foresee splitting Ams being a problem if there are enough Am entrees.

Thanks, for pointing this oversight out Gawain  See ya soon! :yay:

I have to say that I know that this is for charity and all but having only two divisions stinks. The tweeners - like myself - can either play PRO and just write Leland a check (or Andy if he is coming...) or I can play AM and get a rash of crap for doing so.

Splitting the AM pool into Advanced and Intermediate would not only benefit those like me but might also encourage more women to sign up as they could compete in the Intermediate field much more easily than they could in one large AM field, in my opinion.

Just my $.02. Looking forward to the event regardless of what is decided regarding divisions and sure it will be a good time.

Step up Sam, this is for charity anyways. So when are you going to come down to a SOWS event Sam?

Sam
January 6th, 2010, 11:20 AM
I hear ya, Josh... just suggesting that a split in the AM field would get more interest from those who have this dilemma.

No sweat. Thanks for the clarification.

Another question: Will the teepads be natural surfaces? Will cleats be allowed/recommended?

Here is some more lowdown to ponder...

When we thought of the ice bowl I think I remember telling Derek that we need to prepare for more than one AM division... Im sure i just left it in there as i don't proof read very well.

If there is enough people that show up we will make divisions to accomodate. We will have trophies prepared for Adv AM and Intermediate AM, as well as Top 4 Pro's for the final 9ers.

The other divisions that may come up will have to play for extra prizes... courtesy of DGO. We cannot prepare trophies for divisions that may not show.

When you arrive and check in / Pay you can indicate to me if you want to Play Intermediate, or Advanced. :)

As for the teepads... I would recommend wearing some good traction shoes. We will be using the same locations that the permanent teepads will use so tearing up the grass in those areas is of no concern.

We do however want to tread lightly on any other areas of the park. All teepads will be marked with a teesign, and flags. Natural teepad rules will be in effect... ie. If it gets too gnarly you can tee up to 10 feet back, etc. etc.

It's shaping up to be a great event, we have lots of prizes, and extras to give away. See ya there!!!

p.s. Registration list was updated to reflect Andy hock. :)

Just talked to Nate. If 2 or more women, or 2 or more juniors, arrive at the event and would rather play against each other, we will have plenty of extra prizes on hand to award the extra divisions. :biggrin2:

So, come all, and enjoy! :trophy:

It's looking like our Ice Bowl isn't gonna be very icy. :yay::rockon::jumpspin:

I just talked to Douglas County Parks, and am waiting for the park caretaker's phone to not be busy, as well.

I and a couple others will be heading to Pass Creek Park on Saturday to prep the course, camp, party :chug: , laugh  , cry :waaah: , pass out :puke: . . . uhhh, mostly just to prep the course and camp and laugh lots :biggrin2: Feel free to come check out this beautiful park the day before, maybe even scout the holes; I will flag the layout first thing when I arrive, placing available baskets shortly after. A good way to show the park people our appreciation would be to stick around and enjoy the camping facilities, as well . . .
Campfire provided :explode:

Camping rates will probably be $15 per pair of tents, and a $2 discount to Douglas County residents will be available, as usual. Pass Creek Park has kind of a different camping layout with full hookups and group tent sites available. I am unsure as to how the "group" tent sites work, which is why I am trying to contact the park host :headbang: But, if anything, the camping may be cheaper than we think.

Shoot me a PM, e-mail discgolforegon3@gmail.com, or phone call 5416430774 if you plan on stopping by and/or staying Saturday . . . or reply here :wink2:

YAYYYYY for BOB :bowing::bowing:

All of the weather forecast centers still seem divided on probability of Saturday night rain . . . I could care less . . . I will be there, regardless. Pass Creek Park is a beautiful place rain or shine (leanin' towards shine, by most forecasts)

There will be more than enough camping room available for this winter-time event; we will probably all camp in the tree grouping within the tent area together, anyhow.

I'm so frickin' excited, I'm not sure how to say it . . . so I'm just gonna pounce on my keyboard for a small moment; bare with me . . . ngvojasehjgdsahjg;oweyg;jeamnpjefnwrtonwlfwje[ij43[0o4qou4q[r3[gndshnf;dah

I enjoyed the amenities like tee signs with distances (est.), CTP prizes, hot lunch, free beer (you heard me), lots of trophies, player packs, age- and gender-protected divisions, pro shop, videographers, camping with hot showers (Bob), water holes, OB strings, tee flags, good baskets (mostly full-weight and double-chain), and more!

Looking forward to:
* scores on line
* food donation total
* next year's event!

Thank you sponsors:
Roseburg Hydroponic
Lions Club
a local Beverage Distributor
many others (TD: please re-list)

Thank you staff and volunteers!
Thank you Disc Golf Oregon!

A little recap from me, and thanks:

First off I want to thank everyone who showed up and braved a really TOUGH 9 hole layout at Pass Creek Park. The teepads were slick the water hazards a plenty. The weather held out with only Overcast skies. Not a real drop of rain until we started packing up.

I really had a good time TDing this event with my Co-TD's Derek Brown and Anthony Salee. I'm sure that I speak for them when I say next year will be bigger and badder. :) Hopefully on teepads with installed baskets! mmm sounds nice.

Secondly. Thanks goes out to all of our sponsors, without them the event would not have been such a success!

Roseburg Hydroponics - $100 Pro Cash
Pandoras Box - 2 / $25 Gift Certificates
Roseburg Lions Club / John Hughes - Provided Insurance
Zing Custom Flying Minis / Craig Myers - Sweet Deal on our custom minis
Western Beverage Company - Beer, and assorted Swag.
Staples - Sweet Laminated signs!!! Thanks again!
Pure Disc Golf / Andrew Rich - 2 Glow TL's and 1 Hotstamped VooDoo
State of Jefferson / Big Al Springer - 1 Glow CFR disc and 2 SOJ glass Bagtags
Rick Rothstein and the ICE BOWL Organizers, without Whom the Ice Bowl would never be.
Kristie Wilson and all of the Douglas County Parks Department, without whom Pass Creek Park DGC would have never been possible.
All of the other names im forgetting who helped setup and tear down... Thanks to everyone who brought baskets!!!
Thanks to the PARK HOST!!!

Thank you and good night. see ya next year... Sanctioned? Burgers? :)

Please note that Sam was not the biggest bagger at this tournament... the winner in Int AM would have been one stroke out of the cash in pro.

Pass Creek is in the running as the worlds best nine hole course! Think Trojan with a couple of big bomber hole thrown in the middle. Very challenging, especially #3 an island hole with water less than 20ft from the basket on two sides and #4, the bosses office, a 400ft straight gap with water and OB on both sides and within 20 ft to the right of the pin (I watched half of the lead card in pro lay this one up off of the tee, AWESOME).

Highlight of the day... Andrew Rich CTP'd a hole that I would guess measures out at over 500 ft... he threw a destroyer (i think) to about 8ft. WOW... Derek can you post the video?

Thanks again DGO... you guys continue to put on innovative quality events.

Thank you, so much for your kind words, Andy . . . I continued this subject/thread within the "new courses" area until Pass Creek DGC is added to the DG course list . . . Pass Creek Park DGC Final Layout (http://www.nwdiscgolfnews.com/forum/showthread.php?p=48354#post48354)
