Bummer. If a basket has to die, though, better an oak tree than vandals.

Will there be enough fire wood from the offending tree to buy a new basket?:whistler:

I'm more bummed about the tree than the basket.

Hopefully we can make the tree a cool part of the hole with out having to change too much. I say trim the tree and leave it as a natural barrier to the longer pin position.
Sorry to see you go basket three, you will be missed.
On a side not, get rid of the tree on ten. If a clean up crew gets out there, tell them that was the tree that fell and that they need to take it away...

That tree could give back a good number of benches - sawmill anyone?
And yes- the tree is by far the larger loss to the course.

Leave it as is and call it a par 4.

That's a shame. That hill side will be pretty bare now. Hopefully those native plants on the right hand side will fill in sooner then later. Beautiful giant tree. Would have been impressive seeing that thing come down.

Now that's what you call a double suicide... so romantic... guess someone read Romeo and Juliet by the tree and... well you see what happened...

The limb that damaged and trapped the basket has been removed. The basket has been pulled and is now awaiting surgery. We happened to have a replacement basket and it is now in the seldom used, short left position.
The main trunk and the bigger branches (to about 12" in diameter) will be left as an obstacle with plans to reposition it across the fairway in the spring. The tree canopy will be cut up and removed by Benton County Parks and County Work Crew in the next couple of weeks.
It was truly a spectacle to see it on the ground Saturday afternoon. It also took out three or four small cherry trees on its way down, not to mention a sizable limb on the oak tree up the hill. The tree was on the Parks department's cut down list because of its severely deteriorated condition, but Mother Nature beat them to it. :seeya:
