I'll be in the Long Beach/Los Angeles area for Thanksgiving (probably) and I am going to want to play a course or two while I'm there, anyone know of great courses that I should play in that area?

El Dorado (in Long Beach)
Huntington Beach (in HB, duh)
La Mirada

Eldo and HB are are both typical SoCal courses, very lightly wooded with minimal elevation. LaMa is easy to get to from Eldo or HB, it's in a huge park, very lightly wooded with very nice rolling hills and good use of elevation. LaMa also has a pro shop with a bunch of plastic on the course. There is a doubles tourney at LaMa on the Saturday following Thxgiving, so I would avoid that Saturday, unless you wanted to play the dubs.

You could play all three pretty easily. Both LaMa and HB are within 10 miles of Eldo, albeit in opposite directions. You can get back and forth to all three really easily without ever getting on a freeway, which is nice in LA.

If you're in L.A. proper, check out Chavez Ridge.

What's up Thomas?

I have played the Huntington Beach course a few times over the years. I really like that place. They have a little pro shop and the people there were extremely friendly. They had a weekly doubles when I was there that was fun.

I believe there is also a lighted course nearby. I didn't make it there, but a lot of people booked over there after doubles one night.

If the Santa Ana winds pick up in the late afternoon, it will can add about 10 strokes to your game.

There's a little 9 holer in Aneheim that has lights. Nothing special (think Orchard or Rockwood), but it's fun to play after dark.

Hey what's going on Brian?! I haven't been playing much golf since I bruised my tail bone after a nasty spill on hole 18 at Terrace in the pouring down rain and 20 MPH winds during doubles, anyway. Yeah I'm probably looking at HB and La Mirada for sure at this point. I found the lighted course, it's called Twila-Reid Park in Anaheim. Not 100% sure if I'm going to get to go but I am hopeful as I want to play some golf and I guess it would be nice to see my sister. :p

Ridgecrest in Palos Verdes is the birthplace of disc golf in L.A. county. Wish I could be there to show it to you!

I can't find any information on this course from www.discgolfcoursereview.com

Maybe it's not listed?

H.B. is sweet, la mirada is pretty cool. Eldo is kind of boring & twila-reid is also known as tweaker-reid, dont play there.

Thank you for this information as I will most likely being playing with my family. I have played many courses that were otherwise ok except for the kinds of people who played there.

LaMirada~Great Course, Very Cool Pro Shop... Great So~Cal experience! Then if you have a chance go and at the "Higher Flyer" course at Hunnington Beach. Two great disc golf venues!!! Enjoy

If you have a chance you should check out the "original" course, that being Oak Grove in Pasadena, fun course, not very challenging but fun none the less. Also when at La Mirada get a map for the Golden State 18 and play that, makes the course brutal. Plus I don't think the Chavez Ridge course is worht it, unless you like the view of Dodger Stadium.
