Here's the real goal for a modern day disc golfing dad who wants to spend loads of time with the kids while balancing work and disc golf.
Improve my rating by 20 points while only doing the following...
1. Practice putting only prior to rounds and during lunch break at work.
2. Practice dives only prior to rounds plus one additional hour per week at the nearby school field.
3. Play only one casual round per week; that round being a weekly $5 random doubles.
4. Play only 5 tournaments.

If you're driving 400 ft and looking to drive 450 you shouldn't be playing int anymore. If you're crushing 500 you should probably be playing pro since most pros don't drive that far.

Thread drift.. but yeah I agree, I average 350 and place well in Intermediate.
As for putting practice, I find 15 minutes a night to be the biggest factor in my improvement, and I got a 3 year old who loves to play disc golf and lasts 9-18 holes every time.
Add to my goal, get my boy to last 18 holes more often.

I was going to say the same thing. i dont care how bad your putting is. if you can hit 500 you should never even consider intermediate.

He's probably talking about downhill with a tailwind, because I know of maybe 3 people in Spokane that can do close to 450 consistently.
Of course, one of them plays Intermediate and belongs there due to severe consistency issues :D
My goals for 2010: Learn to drive accurately consistently, learn to approach with finesse and accuracy, and learn to putt.

If you're driving 400 ft and looking to drive 450 you shouldn't be playing int anymore. If you're crushing 500 you should probably be playing pro since most pros don't drive that far.
400 feet is at the top end of my comfort range. Hole 3 @ Highbridge is a good example. I can get to within 70-100 feet on a drive. Still have never birdied the hole. I have to be within 15 feet to be 90 percent sure to hit my putts. Thats pathetic.
As for not playing intermediate, thats a different story all together. Chump Challenge was my 1st tourney this year. Threw a 94 the first round (13 over the par). It was all because of putts. Was so upset because it should've been a 85 or better. Second round threw a 83. 11 strokes better and two off par for the course. Intermediate winner threw par the first day and 3 under par the second. Sand bagging? Probably.
As for 450, thats a goal. Would love to see it but I'll have to bulk up with more muscle.
500 is my goal for spin throws since I can get like three times the whip and speed from my arm. Unfortunate that its a very hard thing to get down and not something I'll bust out in a tourney unless it's a very wide open hole. Most of the time they end up nose down. Every once in awhile they stay flat and thats when they soar.
Oh yeah, and to settle the downhill shot argument. Cherry Hill, hole 6. I've thrown to the bottom parking lot twice and the upper one at least a dozen times. 550 to the basket. 600 to the edge of the grass, 675 to the edge of the top parking lot. Convert all the angle into flat and it turns out to be about 400 feet. So :nahnah: Hehe.
I'll post some videos so everyone can see I can actually hit 400 feet.

My goals for 2009 were to:
1. Get player rating to 950+
Rating is 959 as of oct.
2. Win a B teir event in Adv.
Won Willamette Open.
3. Get an invite to 2010 worlds and go.
Haven't come out yet but hope to get one, looks like i am going wether i get one or not.
4. Win Oregon Series points in Adv.
Got 3rd so no complaints here.(Thanks Mike)
The goals that i set for myself were reachable for me but towards the end of the season i thought it wasn't going to happen. I called Nate Sexton and got some lessons from him. Mostly to work on my putting. My golf game was greatly improved and i got my first B tier win.
I haven't set my goals for 2010 yet, but I can tell you for sure i will be calling Nate for some more lessons and hopefully shoot in the top 20 at worlds. Maybe some goals more but not to sure yet.
If you are serious about improving your game in any areas get ahold of a local pro (Nate if you are in Oregon) and get some lessons. It is a great way to support our local pros and improve your game. Thanks Nate and i will be calling you in the early spring.
