Thanks for all of the ideas and feedback guys. Much appreciated, well most of it anyway. Up to this point nothing is set in stone, but we are looking to expand the league to include more players and teams. This could possibly, and I mean "possibly" have two divisions.
I will be gathering with the powers that be in the coming weeks to come up with a plan for the season.
Keep the feedback coming, I'm always interested to hear your ideas, but please don't be disappointed if your ideas don't get used.
Stay Tuned,
Chris

Sorry for the delay guys, I will be getting things going shortly. Life is busy these days! It sounds like Eric Lund is out of the picture this year, he has a lot going on too!
Thomas, I would love to see you on board again. I would plan on a similar schedule as last year starting early January.

I would love to be on board again, too, though my new duties at Chainbangerz are taking Sunday away from me and that was the day we used last year. Sad to hear Eric is out of the picture, he seemed to be a great asset with lots of good ideas. I'm sure you can pick up the slack and make team golf as fun or more than it was last year which would be hard to top. I look forward to hearing more.

At this point I'm still waiting to hear back from all of the original captains. I will leave it up to the captains to decide who is on their respective teams.
I am looking to expand this years TDG. I already have a couple of new captains lined up, but If anybody is interested in captaining a team you can contact me. Keep in mind, that I'm still going with a "course represented team", so have a course in mind before you apply.
Thanks folks, and captains get off your butt and reply!

Yes, it is a possibility. I'm working out the logistics of keeping travel to a minimum, but I am shooting for a North/ South sort of split.

Im out of town, so I'll be brief. I have all of the captains lined up. There will be ten teams comprised of 9 person rosters. The teams that are represented: White River, Riverside, Oly, Steilly (x2), Terrace Creek, Shelton, Sea Tac, West Sound (2x). There will be only one division. I was shooting for two divisions, but logistically it didn't work out this year. There will be a total of 8 events. One rating establishing round (mandotory for non-rated players), Six regular season events, one Championship event.
Next week when I get home, I will finalize the schedule and post/email all relevant info to the captains.
Again, I appologize for the delay, but like I said before, life is busy! Thank you to Sammy Huff for helping me do the leg work, there is no way I could do it without him!

I thought it was a north/south league as well. Other than Terrace, there are no north end teams. There is a lot of interest up here and we were hoping to get in on this. So Thomas, yes...Lake Stevens will represent if we get a north end league going. You can put together an Arlington team, Jub a Silver lake team and Cajun......a Snohomish team....
oh...I just realized Thomas was talking about next year already. Damn...I was really hoping we could participate this year.....Hmmmm..

I guess "getting screwed" wasn't the right wording; people from Shelton aren't going to want to drive to Lake Stevens and people from Everett/lake Stevens aren't going to want to do the same and most of the basis of Chris' TG is from that area so don't think I'm bashing Chris, that was not my intention. I understand why it is the way it is but it would be nice to get the North end players who want to play who can't do all the driving involved.
@BA: Maybe a late summer/fall league would be the closest I would be since details need to be worked out.

Dont get too excited yet guys. Wait for Chris and make some suggestions for next year. Let Chris work it out. It is only the 2nd year for the format. It would be cool to start a little earlier next year and have 2 divisions and do a championship between the winners of each division at a neutral site. Just be patient and the format will be all you hope it to be.
If you want something for this year and cant get on a team do a northside winter series with an event on the weekends that team disc golf is not playing. That would be awesome.

Because a course can only accomodate so many players at one time. 10-nine person teams is already pushing it!

Because a course can only accomodate so many players at one time. 10-nine person teams is already pushing it!
But not all teams are playing the same course at the same time.
With 12 player teams and everyone playing, only 6 holes would be in use at any one time on any one course.
How is that pushing it?
If the finals are limited to 6 teams, that is an even 72 players. Perfectly enough to fill 18 holes.
Our teams here have 16 players and everyone plays every round. We have yet to run out of room or daylight.

Here is the guidelines for WA TDG 2011. Thanks to Sammy Huff for all of his help.
Washington State Team Disc Golf (2011)
OVERVIEW
There will be a total of 7 Events, 7 Courses, and 10 Teams. In order to keep the season short, each team will not play every team during the regular season. There will be a random draw to determine team match ups. TDG will conclude at the Final Event with teams being matched up by the W/L/T records (1 v. 2, 3 v. 4, etc). The league will start in January with matches approximately every other weekend for 12 weeks. The Final event will be April 3rd at Shelton Springs.
EVENT FORMAT
Each event will match up two teams against each other for two rounds. The format for each round will be 4 matches of handicapped singles and one match of handicapped doubles. There will be no California doubles allowed. If a team is short players for the round matches, then the doubles match is fielded first then all other matches are played as singles. The team will forfeit one point per each match that they can’t field.
One team will be designated the “Home” team and one the “Away”. The first round, the home team will turn in their roster to the away team, the away team would then determine the matchups for that round. The second round, the away team turns in their roster for the home team to determine matchups. The winners of each match will earn one point for their team. Any match ending in a tie will award ½ point to each team. The team with the most points at the end of the day gets the win for the Event.
Teams will be matched up at the Final Event by their W/L/T record. If at the end of the season, 2 or more teams have the same Win/Loss/Tie record, the total Match Points will be the tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, whichever team won the match during the season determines the winner. If there is still a tie, all present members of the teams will throw a CTP, the closest shot wins.
COURSES
The TDG teams will each represent a "home" course. The courses to be used this year are; Fort Steilacoom, Riverside, White River, Sea-Tac, Shelton Springs, and a new West Sound course (TBA). Each team will host or co-host one event at their course. The “host team” will decide on the course layout, and be responsible for making sure the course is ready to play. The “Host” is responsible for any special rules regarding the course. PDGA rules will apply; there will be NO TWO METER RULE.
TEAMS and PLAYERS
Each team will have at least 6, but no more than 9 members on the roster. There are no division restrictions or guidelines for a team, although a mixed team of AM’s, Women, and Pro’s would be preferred. Only 6 members need to be present at each event. Players won’t be allowed to switch teams. Rosters must be submitted prior to the start of the first event. Players shall only be allowed play in one doubles match per event. In order to compete in the TDG Finals, a player must have at least two regular season TDG rated rounds.
COST & PAYOUT
Each team will “buy in” to the league at the beginning of the season. Cost will be $135 per team. This breaks down to $15 per player (9). The “buy in” will cover TDG payout and expenses. The end of season awards for teams and individual accomplishments will be based on the W/L/T record and points won throughout the season.
ACE POT
There will be a voluntary rolling Ace Pot throughout the series of the TDG events. Each participating player must buy in at $1.00 per each event. If no aces are hit, the pot will go to a CTP at the Finals. The Final CTP, if necessary, will be available for everyone that participated in the Ace Pot throughout the Team Disc Golf season. If the Final CTP is not Aced, then the three closest shots will divide the Ace Pot.
HANDICAPPING
We will be using the PDGA rating system to determine the player ratings. The rating system uses the course SSA, existing PDGA player ratings, and TDG player ratings to determine handicaps. Handicaps will be calculated before each event. There will be a preliminary round rating event prior to Week #1 to establish a TDG rating. The system used for determining the starting handicap will be as follows; the player’s average of PDGA rating and preliminary round ratings. Players without PDGA ratings will use their first two rounds of TDG divided by two. All Players must have a TDG rating prior to playing in an official match.
After each event, the new rated rounds will be added to all the previous rated rounds and divided by the number of total rounds. Any individual rated round that is 50 points below a player’s rating shall not be used in determining that player’s rating for the following event. This rule will be used to help prevent sandbagging. Doubles rounds will not be rated. Handicaps for the Doubles matches will be determined by using the highest player rating of each team. For Example, 915/960 vs. 935/940 = 960 vs. 940.
The course SSA will determine the handicaps as follows:
SSA Rating points per stroke
42-43 14
44-45 13
46-47 12
48-49 11
50-54 10
55-59 9
60-64 8
65-67 7
68-71 6

pierce county disc golf has a contract with the county to pay 1200$ a year to use steily and riverside. we have a rule in place that says anyone that plays an event at either course must pay 3$ per head. EVERYONE MUST PAY, that is the only way to keep it fair for the A-tier to the deaf disc golfers that only have 20 players. The club can not waive this. need to know if the players will pay 3$ to play at our courses for team golf, or if we should find other courses to play

we are already paying just to PLAY in this team disc golf league!!. we really dont need any other expenses on top of that in my opinion. plus if your team is planning on wearing jerseys then you have to worry about shelling out cash for a jersey as well.
i think that this should be the cheaper the better for a winter time team disc golf league that is about HAVING FUN, not trying to make it seem like another washington state series. i can understand the fee for stilly and riverside because if we want to keep those courses then the club has to raise funds somehow to continue to pay the lease each year, but for all other parks that dont have a big lease agreement like stilly then we shouldnt have to pay to play at the course.

This begs the question: do you charge this fee for the summer weeklies that use these courses all season long?
As most weeklies are like a $5 buy in, do they actually play for $1 payout with $1 going to the series final and $3 going to the club for park fees? :chinscratch:
Just asking since the total cost for WTDG per player is like $2/event. And they will only be at your courses once for each of the two courses during the winter when the course gets the least amount of use. I have no problem with paying course fees, but are they closing the course to other users during these events like they would during a PDGA tourney?
When OTDG plays at say Horning's for example, all I do is mention that everybody needs to pay the $3 day use fee in the morning meeting. But if the course wants the money then they should have someone there to collect the money, since I am surely not going to add that to the list of crap I have to do to get the event off and running smoothly. Likewise when we play at a State Park there is a fee to park your car in the park. And all I do is mention that in the morning meeting and it is up to the park staff to police the compliance of the golfers.

This year, I donated at least $50 extra to 12+ events that I played. That $50 barely made a dent for each individual event, but if I would have just wrote one check for $600.....
At the end of the season, WA TDG will be making a donation to a new local course. My hope is to be able to donate over $800. The amount of this donation is directly affected by "course fee's".
With 7 courses being played, we could divide up the $800 and each course would get player fee's in the amount of about $120.
$120 doesn't go very far for an established course, but $800 for a new course goes along way!
REDFIVE
December 9th, 2010, 09:47 PM
How is raising money for the courses we use going in the wrong direction? Is $3 every two weeks that much to ask? Why not give back a little? Donating a few bucks to the course isn't going to make team disc golf like another series. It is only going to help give back to courses during a time when they aren't able to raise as much. I like playing disc golf and I know that the clubs that are in charge of our courses need our help to keep them going. I am greatful to the clubs and to the people that donate their time and effort so I can enjoy myself during a round of golf. Donate $3 and know you are doing something good for the sport in our area. What is wrong about that?

there is nothing wrong with the thought of giving $3 per course. my hesitation is that i dont want this to end up snowballing or evolving into something else. when i agreed to play in team disc golf it was 15 dollars fee per player, and $1 ace pot per event. i dont want to hear later down the road "now we each have to pay for this new fee or that new fee" or something like that.
the only time i actually am ok with paying money to play disc golf is at an organized tournament (prefereably pdga), or if i was playing at a pay to play course. there are other times i pay to play (weekly doubles) but i would always rather play for free.
the bottom line for me is that i expected to pay 15 dollars entry and 1 dollar each tournament for ace pot. nothing more than that. (exept stilly and riverside i guess)

I vote for raising the team fees to $180 ($20 per player) and creating a course improvement fund of $1200, thus leaving $600 for TDG expenses and payout.
The local Clubs that represent the courses used in this year's TDG will then create a proposal to allocate funds for thier courses. The proposal will include actual projects with involved costs and a brief explanation of why it is needed. For example, "Purchase a new basket w/collar and concrete for $400, Collars and concrete for 6 new pin locations for $150, or Concrete and forms for three new tee boxes for $300". Explanation example, "Purchase of basket is needed to replace a tone pole or Concrete is needed to upgrade the dirt tee pad on hole 4,7, and 12."
Clubs will submit thier proposal to the TD of WTDG (Chris Gilberts). Chris will then create three or four alternatives (multiple courses in each alternative) to allocate the course improvement fund based on the submitted proposals and then the TDG team captians will vote for one. The courses in the winning alternative will be the lucky recipient of the fundraising efforts of Washington Team Disc Golf. The funds will be awarded to the winning clubs at the TDG Finals.
Now that would be some serious fundraising efforts for the off season.
Later,
Sam

i was meaning payed back to the players as in more cash to be put up for winning teams at team disc golf. i would rather see cold hard cash. especially if i am investing some of my own money (as in entrance fees ect.)
i believe that each course or club that takes care of a course should be responsible for raising money for their current courses or for future courses, i really dont think that team disc golf should be used for raising money for any courses, just the players in way of cash or prizes.

I think the vision of using this series to raise money for the courses we all know and love is far and away the best use of my 15 dollars I can think of. Team Disc Golf IS FOR FUN, i mean it's handicapped golf for crying out loud, definitely not to be taken seriously. It's about getting out and raging against the oppressive winter(until it gets dark and we retreat for hot cocoa) and not payouts script or otherwise.
I hope no one see this as anything more than keeping your skills honed and possible picking up some bragging rights(at least till somebody points out the handicap thing again). If someone told me for a 20 dollar donation to the greater good of disc golf I could go out and compete in 7-8 organized events this winter with my buddies against my friends at their courses and somebody would be keeping track of it all for me I just had to show up and have fun....
I would say "Where do I sign up?" What would you say?
Maybe you would have questions about how your donated money is spent, fair enough, that is a conversation worth having. Sam had some ideas on that worth pursuing and I'm sure other folks have ideas as well. But if we all were to look at this from a perspective more along these lines it makes answering some of question brought up so far a lot easier.
It's possible I'm being a little too idealistic(wouldn't be the first time) but really where else could you get so much back for donating so little to your favorite cause?
I am speaking as a player here any numbers or intentions mentioned above are for the purpose of conversation and contemplation.

Im not entirely sure the timing is right for these issues. Solely my opinion, but it is sounding more like when the teachers of a school district are going on strike a few weeks before school is ready to start. Isnt it a little inappropriate to bring up any other fee issues at a time where the team captains are designated, the schedule and rules have been posted, the teams have pretty much been filled, the listed fees to play this year has been posted and currently being collected and all there is to do is wait to begin another great year of team disc golf at the beginning of the year.
Kinda think things should be grandfathered in by now and any other issues should be brought up next year before the rules and/or any other information is formely posted. It is $15 per person as i understand it and if psdgc does in deed require a fee to pay an event at fort steilacoom and riverside without and chance of being waved then so be it.
All suggestions i have read are great and i fully respect every one and i hope to have the same courtesy paid to me with respect to this post. Maybe....... just maybe we can save all this energy for next year. As i see it.........your going to need every bit of it.

Dan, you are quite right. The teams are established, the rules are in place and the $15 per player buy in is set (regardles of what happens).
The only thing in question here is course fee's. And this question was just brought up Thursday morning.
So we will deal with it, and a solution will be found that will suit everybody.

The Jan 2nd, Lakewood round is not mandatory for players that have a PDGA rating or a rating from WA TDG last season. That being said, I need to have at least 7 rated players playing the round to qualify the rating system.

I do not claim to hold any kind of copyright to the Team Disc Golf method, in Oregon or elsewhere. I am just glad that the concept has caught on up north. They do things a little differently, but as long as they are having a good time and getting players out to the course over the winter, my job is done.
I am pretty jealous about their sweet webpage approach though, I just don't have the skills or the time to do that for us.:bricks:

I definitely plan to put those up. Just have to decide how. The spreadsheet that has all the data is kind of a monster, not the most user friendly. so I am kicking around the idea of adding it the results page, more work but much easier to digest. WA TDG made its first contribution to Mason County Disc Golf. We donated $500 to the new Shelton Springs DGC, in Shelton, WA! The remaining balance of WA TDG funds will be given at the end of the season. I'm hoping for at least $200 more!
Thanks to all of the TDG players, and those who kicked in a little extra to make this happen.

I'm still undecided if I'll make it East this year. Probably not, but If I do, it will be for the LCO. I ordered a new baby, he should be here the end of April sometime, he is going to determine my tourney schedule this year! I'll let you know Joe.

Hey Bob what is your timeline for EWTDG? The spreadsheet we have is still undergoing some tweaking (thanks to the talented Mr. Huff). Are you guys trying to start something this year? If so we should talk soon, otherwise I'd wait till after our season we should have the thing perfected by then. If you want to see what it kind of looks like this is what we used last week (https://sites.google.com/a/watdg.com/wa-team-disc-golf/2011-results/t1r1?pli=1). 49 = 11 RP/stroke.

We are having a spectacular year! We already donated $500 to Shelton Springs (MCDG), and it looks like we could be donating another sum (hopefully enough for a new basket) to the winning teams' club. Add in a fully catered meal during the Championship's, and I'd say we have had a successful year!

It's somewhat of a calculated guess....I have about 15 scorecards from "established" PDGA rated players. By established rated players, I mean at least 8 rated rounds, most of which are 15-30 rated rounds. Some of these players are Riverside "locals" some are first timers to the course.
I didn't add it in with my SSA calculations, but I do know of one local "Lobsterbush" that threw a -13!

With 12 teams You might consider making 2 divisions of 6 and having some sort of playoffs for the top two from each division. This way each team will play every other team in it's division.

A new year of WA TDG is upon us. Schedules and rules have been emailed out to all of the captains. First event of the season is 1-08-12 at Lakewood. We have made a few major changes this year, the first being the addition of 2 new teams to take us to 12 total. The next change goes right in line with the first, and that is the fact that all of the courses that we play will be shut down to casual golf during WA TDG events. Id like to thank all of the host clubs that have generously donated the use of their respective courses, because of this, we will make a very size-able donation to one lucky course this year.
I'm looking forward to another great season of WA TDG!

I did not notice that when preparing the schedule. I checked with my church (The PDGA), they didn't have anything planned, I guess I should have checked with the christians. We will have to see if we can possibly arrange something, maybe they can reschedule easter. Or maybe we can change our date....

Nathan,
You can still play in the afternoon. Morning service and afternoon golf at Shelton Springs. Does it get any better?
Actually, the dates were hard to set. Based on the previous two years of scheduling conflicts and a total of 8 TDG Events this season, the decision was made to set TDG dates every other weekend with the only consideration being the Superbowl. April tends to be a busy month for other DG events and the so called "start" of the tourney season. The TDG staff didn't want to have back to back weekends of events (one exception, 1/22 & 1/29). Possible burnout from players and to allow other events to pick potential dates. I'm sure March will see a few PDGA events on the open weekends.
Yes, there will be conflicts, but TDG has become too large of an event that has to be planned and dates set in advance. No more mid season date changes. The players will have to decide what events to attend.

Not very religious, but do spend Easter with my family. It is unfortunate that the finale is that day but it is what it is. I know you all have a lot to deal with when planning and appreciate all that you, the captains, have done to get the third season on its way. If you do happen to have it on the 15th however, I wouldn't mind. :)

Yeah, a lot of us won't be able to get away on Easter Sunday. It's a pretty big day with the family for most people..especially if you have kids.
I'm hoping it gets moved too. I hate to miss out on my new favorite course and my new favorite pizza and micro beer place (Grove Street Tavern rocks! Oyster and clam pizza and a pitcher of IPA for $20).

Easter Sunday wouldn't be a good date for me either, and I'd be super disappointed to miss the finals at the Springs.

I don't usually post on something that I am not involved in but this one intrigues me. While I am not a person that attends services, I am a person that RESPECTS those who do. To say that you worried about scheduling on Superbowl Sunday and not worry about scheduling on Easter Sunday is fairly amazing to me.
Sam, you tell Nathan that he can attend church in the morning and play in the afternoon? The silly game that you are worried about won't even start until well after your rounds had finished. I still am trying to figure out whether your post, or Gilberts' post about not checking with the Christians is more insensitive.
I know that I am not involved with your TDG, nor am I a person that attends church. This does, however, make me the perfect casual observer with no ties to either side. I will say that as a TD I have always tried to be considerate of all special days and I would consider this (Easter) a biggie. I find it totally offensive that Home Depot has decided to be open on this day now and keeps people away from their families. I will personally try to take anyone's schedule that needs that time off.
But hey, I guess the only way that we can learn whether this is important to many people is to schedule something on that day. The good news is that amazing things come from those that do their own thing and pay no attention to convention. The bad thing is that they can be amazing triumphs or amazing failures. I am anxious to see how this turns out.

The church has decided to reschedule Easter Sunday..... They understand the importance of WA TDG and were more than willing to oblige.... Just kidding of course.
We have rescheduled the WA TDG Final to Saturday the 7th of April @ Shelton Springs DGC.

Hm, might have to miss it. It's the biggest Atheist convention of the year. :pullhair:
Even as a person that is indifferent to the holiday, it's still good to see things work out.

However, I'm looking forward to the improved finale date. Hopefully I and the NADs will be playing for first!

There has been a couple of changes to the WA TDG schedule. The only date change is the Final event, it will be Saturday the 7th of April, instead of Sunday the 8th. The other changes are course changes. January 8th, (1st event) we will be playing Seatac instead of Lakewood. Feb 12th (4th event) will be at Fairgrounds instead of NAD. Feb 26th (5th event) we will be playing Lakewood instead of Seatac.

I can't really figure out where to find the actual info for TDG... the website doesn't really have anything. How do I find out more? Where is this schedule that everyone is talking about? What are the costs associated? ...basically ANY information. Is just an "in the know" kind of thing?

Chris is the official spokesman for Wa TDG, but I'll offer up a few bits of info.
1) Yes, the website needs to be updated. It is being worked on. Hopefully, it will be up and running soon. It will be the go to place for all info, stats, and standings relating to the 2012 TDG season.
2) The best place to start is with the Captains for 2012 Wa TDG. They have already been informed with the details and would be the most help for now. Here's a list of the Captains. They should be busy with setting their rosters. Most teams are probably already set, but ask around.
Chris Auseth, Shelton
Andy Foster, White River
Sammy Huff, NAD
Carl Wark, Fairgrounds
Ian Markeson, Sea Tac
Sean Hadly (Jub Jub), Lakewood
Matt Broers, Way Outs
Ron Weimer, Fennwick
Dan Lilly, Steilly #1
Chris Blankato, Steilly #2
Jeremy Frieling, Riverside
Chris Gilberts, Team Oly
Hope that helps for now
