I heard it from Kyle....

He was asking me for some advise/help finding a place to crash mid-trip. He will be leaving from Santa Cruz after the Faultline Classic (Cali St Open Championships) on Oct 31-Nov 1.

He is a MUCH better golfer than his rating shows....he has played less than 1/2 the events this year that he has played in previous yrs.
And has cashed 2 of 3 times hes been to USDGC.

Not sure WHY he picked Tacoma...But thats where he had been looking for a house the past few months. A few of us knew he was making the move MONTHS ago. :whistler:

He may not finish first all that often in Cali, but look at the guys he competes with. That's like being able to beat up everybody except Superman, Spiderman, and Chuck Norris.

The average WA player rating is certainly going to go up, as Kyle will inspire our 99x rated guys to push over the top.

Allow Kyle some transition.... first he needs to get used to the idea of moving up, so therefore he is going to be saying "Oregon" for a while until he gets used to living where he is and just then, when he is ready, will he say "wash-in-a-ton".... Let's take it easy on him for now, no need to rush the transition...

Kyle,

I'll drive up and throw a $20 spot on a head-to-head round at Seatac with you! That'd be a great time.

The -3 is a little misleading as the course par is old school, "everything is par 3" stuff. It is probably more of a par 57-58. Anything under 58 is pretty decent.

The front nine is pretty straight forward but then you have 12, and 14 thru 18 that are legit par 4's. 15 is possible to deuce but it isn't easy by any means. 56 is around 1000. Good track.

DoubleDees
October 15th, 2009, 06:03 PM
I would give it a higher par than 58... hole 12 par 4. hole 14-18 are all par 4. that makes it at least a par 60 and i would give 14 a par 5 for a 61. steilly is just a mini delaveaga. seatac is just seatac lol. speaking of seatac, i smell a new doubles record coming out of this weekend :) casual record is -4, Bjorn and Cain... pdga record is 51 by Brody Miller(he did it twice). Then Avery, Waugh, Werth, Leslie, and myself all have 52. I could be wrong but thats all I can find :) there was a year that a 20 hole layout was played and im not counting any of those rounds.

Frank Lewis shot a 51 in a casual round at SeaTac the other day. He was -6 after hole 10, then only got 3 fours the rest of the round, otherwise getting 3's. Not bad for a 46 year old.

Don't worry Kyle, I won't bring any video cameras. I'm just a tour guide that enjoys watching elite golfers. I've spectated many tournaments that I shoulda played, just in order to watch the lead card throwdowns. Time well spent.

I don't have 20 bucks on a round, but I will give you a dollar if you card a 3 on hole 14.

Nice job. That is very impressive.

We have a standing payout called "Amen Corner 5 for 5", starting on # 14. You get $5 from everyone in the group if you par (or better) the last 5 holes at SeaTac, par being 54 for 18 holes. I have yet to see it in four years of playing the course. The Amen Corner is a reference to Golf's Agusta course, "the second shot at the 11th, all of the 12th, and the tee shot at the 13th hole at Augusta".

Dr. Zaius
October 17th, 2009, 03:15 AM
i just want to state, that i love seatac, and have rightfully been humbled by its presence years ago. i just thought that this was funny.... via Wiki

The second shot at the 11th, all of the 12th, and the tee shot at the 13th hole at Augusta are nicknamed "Amen Corner." This term was first used in print by author (Herbert Warren Wind-HWW) in his April 21,1958 Sports Illustrated article about the Masters that year.In a Golf Digest article in April,1984 ,26 years later,HWW told about it's origin. He said he wanted a catchy phrase like baseball's "hot-corner" of football's "coffin -corner" to explain where some of the most exciting golf(the Palmer-Venturi rules issue at twelve in particular ) had taken place. Thus "Amen Corner" was born. He said it came for the title of a jazz record he had while at Yale University in the mid-30's by a group led by Chicago's Mezz Mezzrow, "Shouting in that Amen Corner." In a Golf Digest article in April,2008,writer Bill Fields, added some new updated information about the origin of the name. He said that Richard Moore,a golf and jazz historian from SC, tried to purchase a copy of the old Mezzrow 78 RPM disc for an exhibit, about the name, he was putting together for his Golf Museum at Ahmic Lake, Ontario. Moore found that after extensive research however, that the record never existed.Wind himself a jazz buff, must have,as Moore put it; "unfortunately bogey'd his mind, 26 years later".While at Yale,he was no doubt familiar with, and meant all along, the popular version of the song ( with the correct title-"Shoutin' in that Amen Corner written by Andy Razaf)which was recorded by the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, vocal by Mildred Bailey (Brunswick label No.6655 )in 1935. Moore told Fields that being a great admirer of HWW 's work over the years, he was reluctant, for months, to come fotrh with his discovery that contradicted Wind's memory. However, another golf wrirter friend convienced him that he should. In time, Fields heard about it and contacted Moore. So perhaps now Fields and Moore, have set the record straight, so to speak. , In 1958 Arnold Palmer outlasted Ken Venturi for the Green Jacket with heroic escapes at Amen Corner. Amen Corner also played host to prior Masters moments like Byron Nelson's birdie-eagle at 12 and 13 in 1937, and Sam Snead's water save at 12 in 1949 that sparked him to victory.

great golf history, with great golf humor...
