Hello friends!

I'm letting you know about another tournament in the works...

It's called Hope Open and it is a fundraiser tournament benefiting the American Cancer Society.

This event will take place October 31st at Willamette Park in Corvallis and is a "women-friendly" event. That means that we are holding 40 spots for women up until 2 weeks before the tournament.

This will be PDGA sanctioned CEP, so minimal PDGA fees per player (which go to American Cancer Society) and no non-member fees.

A couple other things to mention: all players will receive a player's pack and because this event falls on Halloween there will also be a costume contest :D

Attached is a flyer. Start getting excited!!

Sounds awesome, I plan to sponsor and sign up right away. What's PDGA sanctioned CEP?

Oh, and I added the event to the calendar...

CEP stands for Competition Endowment Program, which is for all charity events and any events that help promote disc golf to different members, create awareness, etc.

It's pretty awesome for charity events, way less PDGA fees which hopefully will encourage more people to play!

I'll be signing up for this for sure and either buy a tee sign or just donate. My father was taken by cancer, my niece was taken by cancer, close dear friends have been taken by cancer, my wife has family members that have been taken by cancer. If you have not known somebody close that has been taken by this ghastly disease, you WILL. We can all sit around and wait for somebody else to do something or we can do our part NOW and give HOPE to those that otherwise don't have much hope. Science has come a long way in recent years towards finding a cure but there is still a lot of work to do.

We have here an opportunity to compete in the sport we all love at a great course, in the off season and for what? HOPE! We now have the opportunity to give HOPE where it is most needed. Join me in supporting this tournament, join me in helping to give HOPE.

Thanks,
Bob

Cindy and I will be there for sure. As a survivor myself I'm ready to give a little back and help kick cancers butt.

I should also make note about other special things going on at this tournament.

If you would like to donate to the ACS, we are hosting $25 tee signs that can be dedicated to someone in your life touched by cancer. The sign will be posted at one of the tees on the course for the duration of the event and 100% of these proceeds goes to the ACS.

The registration form has also been updated so we can include a spot for survivors to check off and be recognized. There is also a place to put a name of someone you are playing for that will be printed out on a special bag tag.

If we can stick to the schedule and each round doesn't take longer than 3 hours, then you should be done by 4:30, which should allow enough time to get back to Eugene.

Please keep in mind though, I'm a new TD, and there is a chance for inclement weather (which could make rounds longer).

I'd love to have you come and play. I will do my best to keep things on time, but you're obviously taking a chance.

We also have some other cool sponsorships in the works, so keep a look out for upcoming news :)

This is going to be an awesome event that will benefit a very worthy cause. Whom among us has not been personally touched by cancer be it themselves, a family member, or a close friend. Even if you cannot attend the event you can show your support by purchasing an honor sign with 100% of the funds going to the American Cancer Society. Also you can donate directly to the ACS, or the event, and you can do this all from the PDGA sign-up.

So the count is at 31 total players, 20 men and 11 women.

That being said, that means that half the spots reserved for men have reached, only 20 more spots left!

But, two weeks before the event is this Saturday... so ladies who want to make best use of the spots reserved for them, get your registrations in this week! And as Cindy said, first 25 women get a pair of handmade earrings from Julianna Korver.

And as another reminder, if you can't participate in this event you can still be involved by donating an honor sign for someone in your life touched by cancer. So far, 14 signs have been purchased. 100% of the proceeds from these signs go to the American Cancer Society.

The last thing I want to say is I hope you all are working very hard on your costumes!

"The next ratings update is scheduled for December 15th. Please note that tournament directors must submit their TD report no later than Tuesday December 1st in order for their event to be included."

Saw this on the PDGA website, so The Hope Open will be the last chance for Orgonians to get a couple of rounds in at a local tournament that would be included in the last update for the year

There aren't any scheduled doubles for Friday, though I'm sure you could round some people up to play. There are the local doubles at Adair on Sunday though, if you're looking to make a weekend of it.

As for the camping, I'll have to look into that. There is no group camping set up for this tournament. However, I and other local golfers have backyards if it comes down to that :)

If there's at least 3 in a division I'll leave it, I suppose it depends on what division it is. There will probably be some moving around this week.... unless more people sign up for that particular division.

I'm really surprised that Luke Jenks is the only Advanced player around who is going to play this tournament. Is someone playing a Halloween trick on me?

I am planning on going to the Hope Open, but unfortunately I have been having some car trouble. Is anyone from Portland driving down with whom I could catch a ride?

Leaving for the Hope Open soon. Spending the night at our TD's house, so we can finish up the bag tags. We got the tee signs done last night, and they look great. I just heard from our TD a little bit ago, and we have 5 more players, which brings us to 60 :yay:

See everyone in the morning

Probably should have been mentioned earlier, but do note that there is a Beaver football game the same day as the tournament. The game starts at 1pm, so keep in mind traffic before and after the game.

I like being able to walk to the course in the morning. I might start running more events at Willamette :)

First round done. As far as I know Chandler, Nate and myslef are in the lead with 47s in the first round. Kinda wet, but fairly good conditions overall. I haven't heard any scores (walked back to the casa for lunch) so who knows...

Thanks Shavonne for stepping up and making this a great event, thanks to all thr volunteers and satff and folks who donated awesome stuff! See ya after round 2 :)

Shane Waters shot 44 in the morning for the lead, however his solid 46 in the afternoon was not enough to withstand the blistering 41 that was posted by Mr Nate Sexton. Wow!
I am not going to try and give you the tournament results but they should be posted soon...
Great tournament, great fundraiser and the weather was much better than forecast. Thanks to Shavonne, Cindy, Teresa, Tom, Toni, Jay and all who helped make it a success.

Cheers

Awesome tournament, I'm really glad I was able to go (thanks Bob for giving me a ride). I'm really hoping this will become an annual event because it's an awesome course and a great cause.

What a fun day of discing. I'm pretty much recovered now from having so much fun. Shavonne and crew ran an outstanding tournament, I'm really looking forward to next year. The best part of the event was raising $1500 for the American Cancer Society. It really hit home while waiting at the backup on hole 5. Met a local couple that were watching the action and cheering everyone on. They just happened to be walking in the park and stopped to see what was going on. While talking with the couple I found out that the lady had just beaten cancer for the second time and she was so happy to know that so many people cared and were helping out.

:cheers:to everyone who participated and helped to make a difference.

This one was at Willamette not at Adair so it was only a tourney record not an overall record. Still it was my best round there in a few years as I have not been playing there as much as I used to. It was a great round with only 2 big mistakes, a terrible drive on #10 in the short (one of the easier holes) and a missed 20-25 footer on #13. If I could have corrected those it would have been a -9 back 9.
I do owe some credit to Dion for a pep talk on #18 though, I had just taken a 2 stroke lead and I was about ready to lay up and get a safe win with the -12, but he said I shouldn't be a wuss and I should just go for it, so I took his advice and got one more birdie to secure the tourney record. Hoping for 1070 when the results get posted.

Great shooting Nate!

For those curious the course was actually set a little tougher than average.

1- Right – tougher placement
2-
3- Right
4- Right - tougher
5- Left - tougher
6- Left - tougher
7- Right – tougher
8- Left – easier
9- Long – tougher
10- Left – easier
11- Left – tougher
12– Left – easier
13– Short? – easier
14
15– Left – tougher?
16– Right – easier
17– Long – tougher
18- Short Left – this one could be argued as it is protected better and brings OB more into play.

It was epic, Kent! McMAhan dressed as Tigger relished in flipping off random groups of DGer's (or maybe just this particular golfer).

Cabal and his legendary smack talk was on par.

All in all it was a much better show than watching the pro's shoot it out.

Do you have any idea how distracting it can be to putt when a 47 year old man, dressed in a tigger outift walks into your line of sight without ROGLing. Impossible, I tell you. Impossible.

It was actually closer than the results show. Steve shot a 66 in the afternoon round not a 60, so it was a 4 stroke win. Couldn't quite come all the way back in the afternoon but it was a fun round. I do wish he hadn't kept calling me Pooh all day though. Or was he saying I played like Pooh? :chinscratch:I think Tigger is ready to take on the Advanced Masters now. Look out Smo! :shooting:

Have to echo what Bullseye wrote.

A ton of work went into this event. Great player's pack (mug, disc, shopping bag, etc.). The organizers made a huge push to get plenty of sponsors and the cash raised was considerable.

And it was sobering to see all the memorial signs around the course and think of those who've faced C's great hurdles.

While I always enjoy fat pro payouts (just look at what the WDGC did at the WO, that was sick) I much prefer chances to help, in any small way possible, others who can't get out, can't play a round of DG and would love it, absolutely love it, if their biggest worry for the day was smacking a piece of plastic into a tree and taking an extra stroke or two on a hole.

Those of us who enjoy good health are so lucky. Thanks to the Hope Open staff and volunteers for giving us a chance to count our blessings.

So now that I've had a moment, it looks like the official number for funds raised for the American Cancer Society is $1,882.75!! Great work everyone!! :cheerleader:

Odd, that number resembles Nate's PDGA number of 18824...interesting. I guess he was destined to win and put up a course record rated 1075 (18824 +1075 = $1882.75?)
