View Full Version : The Return of Terror Creek 666: It Came from the Sticker Bushes! - October 31st

I'll post more details later, but I just want everyone to mark their calendars for Oct. 31st this year. Terror Creek 666 Doubles will be back again to strike fear into the hearts of chunderous partners!

Like I say, more details to come, but what I can say for sure now is it'll be one day, Sat. 10/31. This year will be 2 rounds of 666 format, but they will be different. Also, I'll be adding a mixed doubles division for those that are interested. More to follow!

UPDATE: I've gotten most of the details worked out, see the attached flyer. I'll write more in detail later when I have a chance, but check it out and let me know if you have questions. Major change in addition to 2 rounds of 666--this year, costumes will not be optional. It's Halloween, and I want everyone to get into the spirit, not just a handful of teams. For those that still want to score well, make sure you wear something you can still throw in--I'd suggest dressing up as a famous person, though not one with a big fake beard and ram-horned hat. :D

In a word, no. We actually still have a surplus from last year's event, due to the overwhelming amount of support that everyone showed, even after building the (mutha flippin') kiosk (http://www.nwdiscgolfnews.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1946). I won't say that there won't be any fundraising involved, but it will not be as focused as last year. Or I guess to answer the question that's not being directly asked: yes, you can expect the payouts to be a little higher. ;) I should also set out a disclaimer though, that even with more money coming back to the players, the emphasis on this event is fun, not necessarily a fat purse.

You mean fun, as in torture?

Chris, will team GreenLight be gracing the tournament with some incredible scores again?

I would like to but I can't say yes or no at the moment. But I think that defending the title is great motivation to try and make it happen.

Online registration is now available, I've added the link to the original post. Also, I noticed a couple typos in the original flyer...they've been fixed now.

I hope people get a chance to come out and play in this, I think everyone had a good time in it last year, and I'm expecting it to be even better this year. Just a note on the "new 666" of the second round, as it states in the flyer, all of the second round will be best shot doubles, but with tweaks to the game.

First of all, there's Putter Only, pretty straightforward. I know there's bound to be some wiseguy who says "But I putt with a Boss, that count's right?" No. Basically, if it's listed as a putter on a manufacturer's website, it's legit. The one exception I'll make is if someone wants to use a Super Class disc, I'll allow it (most current disc golfers can throw a putter farther than a Super Class anyway). If somebody tries to argue to let some other disc in, well, I'll make them play with a Whitler. Or Turbo Putt. Or 10 M Brick....

Then there's "Island Purgatory." Basically, I'll mark off greens as islands, but in most cases will have a safe zone you can lay up in. Play safe, or play aggressive, you make the choice--a much easier choice to make in doubles. ;)

And then the "Tees of Evil." Basically, this will take us all back to our first days of disc golf, and finding our lies in places they shouldn't be at all. Yes, it'll be ugly, and you'll want to make sure you have all the shots in your arsenal ready to go. The plus side, unlike the early days, instead of the rest of your friends standing by their shots in the fairway, laughing at your misfortune, we'll all be suffering together. I would say that this will be like having to play from one of my lies, but I'll do my best not to make anyone have to tee off from a thicket of blackberries. :D

Oh, and one final note regarding costumes, I realize some people might not want to play for money when they're dressed up, so I added a cheap, non-competitive division for people who just want to enjoy the experience. I hope most people still want to compete, but most of all, I want everyone to have FUN.

Tim this is so genious, I am still working it out whether I can go and who my partner would be and what costume to wear if I do get to go. Any other Intermediate players who want to go and need a partner, let me know.

p.s I don't have a huge arm but the basket looks huge to me at thirty feet, kinda like the huge basket that Papa has, hehe.

Update: Andrew (cefire) has volunteered to run a side game after each round called "Throwbot doubles". I'll let him fill in the details, but this sounds like it's going to be ridiculously fun--heavy emphasis on ridiculous! I'll just say that it's lightheartedly sadistic and should provide plenty of entertainment for anybody involved OR spectating.

If you haven't signed up already, do so soon. You won't want to miss out on this! :D

Tis' true! :jumpspin: If this event weren't already guarenteed gold, I'm adding a little Virgina-style with "ThrowBot" doubles side game.

Invented by perhaps the most devious evil genius of disc golf, Tommy Donelson  ThrowBot doubles is essentially played by an "operator" and a "robot". The "robot" is given a blindfold and directed to the first teepad, at the teepad they are spun around several times so they don't know where the hole is. The "operator" then directs them any way they want (talking, physically moving them) on how to throw the next shot AND guides them to safely get to the next lie!

To keep this short and to try to fit in a bunch of teams, each player is going to get 1 hole where they play as the operator and one hole where they play as the robot (2 holes total). I'll be running this during the lunch break and directly after the end of the second round. I'll probably ask for $1 per team so I can put together a little trophy :trophy: for the winning team.

If you want a little sample, check out this youtube video starting at about 2:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OE-RyLrlmQ

Throwbot Dubs sounds like a blast. Does a team ever actually post a good score?

cefire
October 1st, 2009, 06:57 PM
Each time I've run or played in these, I've made a prediction about the score and each time I'm stunned by how much a team or two exceeds my expectations.

The other curious thing is that each time an "underdog" team has won these things. It seems to be more about understanding what the hell your partner is trying to communicate to you than disc skill. Or perhaps the force is just strong with some :merlin:

"Jackass and me" How does Stengele feel about that title? :puke:

"Double Bogey Men" That sounds more like my play during the Highway 9 tourney, in fact so does "Three Putted Monster"

"OB One and Toby" How about this instead: "OB One Can Bogey"

We went out and figured out the Tees of Evil yesterday. They should live up to their name pretty well, though, I suppose their full name should be "Tees of Evil That Actually Have a Soft Spot Deep Inside Their Blackened Little Hearts." That's just doesn't roll off the tongue as well. Point is, all the tees are difficult, but there ARE legitimate, fair lines that can land you a birdie, or possibly even an ace! Best of luck hitting them though!

Also, if you are planning on playing this weekend and haven't officially registered, PLEASE get in touch with me. I've gotten a number of legitimate registrations, but have had far more, "Oh yeah, I'll be there for sure! (....most likely)" type responses from people. There are a limited number of player packs, and a limited number of spots. I really don't want to have to turn people away, but in addition to limited resources, we're also running on very limited daylight. So if you want to make sure you get in, get in touch with me ASAP. Online registration is closed, but the important thing is to get your name on the list NOW.

Oh yeah, BTW, I forgot to mention it earlier, but the regular doubles ace pot will be up for grabs this weekend--it's at least at $300, and quite possibly higher, especially with the tourney.

Cool, thanks Toby. Last year, there were hardly any "official" pre-registrations and we almost filled the course. This year I've got probably twice as many, and I really hope to avoid playing the part of the asshole and having to turn people away.

Here is the list of entries I have confirmed so far, some have team names, some don't, some are subject to change (and of course, if a team doesn't come up with their own name, I get to name 'em):

Open:
Ancient Chinese Secret: Gibson Holub and Erik Wilson
Team Hawks: Peter Land and Bjorn Pinney
???: Aaron Holley and Mike Werth
Honestly, whatever: Thor and Old Bones

Mixed:
Turd Ferguson and Penis Mightier: Andrew Rivers and Sheila Teves
Who Are Dey?: Nate Bell and Jessie Westphal
???: Mike and Jessica
???: Brett Vintertun and Chelsea

Advanced:
Mukilteo Misfits: John Stengele and Toby Cheff
Little Lebowski Under Achievers: Tim and Chuck
Natorvision: Shane Ervin and Mark Halverston

Intermediate:
Team Magnum: Thomas Little and Kelly Smith
???: Dan and Banger
Beavis & Butthead: Robert and Robert's friend
???: Evan Troka and Curt Mott

Casual:
Team Awesome: April Little and Clayton Pomeroy

If you think you had signed up with me, but don't see your name, get in touch and I'll get it straightened out.

I've got a few helpers on hand for this, but could always use some more and help things go that much more quickly. 2nd - Team Magnum: Thomas Little & Kelly Smith 63 59 122
3rd - Nad Rognab: Dan & Bangor 65 58 123
4th - Gilligan & the Skipper: Evan Troka & Curt Mott 66 60 126
5th - Beavis & Butthead: Robert & Luke 72 ???

Doin' their own thing:
Team Awesome: April Little & Clayton Pomeroy 68 69 137

Also, there were 2 aces Dan and James on Evil 12 and Evil 7 respectively. That landed them $194 each...guess I didn't make those tees evil enough!

In the costumes, Sheila won best costume for her Gogo Yubari getup, and Mike and Jessica won the best team theme with their coordinated and well accessorized swashbucklers outfits. Unfortunately, Chuck and I both neglected to snag pictures of the cool dyed discs they got. :headbang:

And also, last but not least, Old & Angry took home the prestigious Throwbot trophies, with a solid score of 8 on the two holes, which is really solid, considering I saw some teams take 8 strokes just trying to putt on 1 hole alone! I think this could become a new tradition in the area for casual tournaments, it was just too much fun!

Oh, if anybody didn't get a pint glass, let me know please! I've got some left over, and by my count, not everyone grabbed one. I've also got some extras for sale if anybody's interested, at the entirely reasonable price of $5.

Thanks again to all those that helped out, especially Chuck, Aaron, Evan, and Quientin, couldn't have done it without you guys.

Hope everyone had a good time and a Happy Halloween!

The Dude abides.

Yeah, Beau & Mark L. ended up winning the throwbot championships in an overtime duel with Eric M. and Aaron T. (see throwbot scores below)

I've got a video with some highlights from the ThrowBot - some pretty funny stuff in there. I'm going to add captions when I have a few spare minutes so people know what the hell is going on in some places.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjBMxAiASa0

Also, here is a picture of GoGo's awesome trophy which lit up our room on Saturday night  The dye on this thing is superb and crystal clear - of course the picture does not really do it justice. Awesome job Chuck! :bowing:

Here are throwbot scores:
Beau & Mark - 8
Eric & Aaron - 8
Bjorn & Peter - 8
Tim & Chuck - 11
Gibson & Erik - 13
Aaron & Mike - 13
Sam & Ian - ???
Jeff & James - ???
and there were a couple of pairs who couldn't finish due to darkness but weren't 'on track' for the tie/win.

Looked like everyone had a good time out there so we'll have to do it again! :biggrin2:

On another note, thanks to everyone for an awesome tourney. I loved all of the doubles formats for this years event. It was super disappointing to have completely f'ed up my ankle on Friday night right before the tourney but there was no way I was going to miss out, even if it meant hobbling around all day.

Looking forward to next year already.

Get your panties out of a bunch now, fellas. I know I've lagged on it, and I apologize, but I actually sent an email off just this morning, and I should have the lettering in early next week.

First off I don't wear panties. I go commando! Second, I just assumed after 3 months that the trophies were going to not happen. I was just flipping you some $@#%. I was content with the pint glass and you outfit tim. No worries either way. ;)r

Maybe the guy on the other end is busy as well. I'm assuming it takes a little extra time to do stuff when people donate their time and materials

First off, I apologize as I could have used better words then "dropped the ball." We all appreciate the fact that you volunteered your time as I know in your profession it is not easy to do. However, I don't think it is unfair of us to ask what's up as it HAS been almost three months since the tournament. I wanted to stress to Tim and now you that we can wait, it would have just been nice to know what was going on as it seemed like the trophies fell by the wayside. Once again, sorry if I upset you in any way just some of us wanted to know what was up. And again, I appreciate your efforts as everytime you do something with your skill set it always turns out great. No hard feeling I hope Q.

None taken. I just got offened, because the ball was in my court and I called time out instead passing it. I guess I'm just mad at myself to keep you guys waiting. It should have been done a long time ago and I apologize. But the lettering will be cut, weeded, and finalized this weekend and at the latest will be in the mail to Tim on Monday morning. He might have it sooner if he comes up to Enjoy Sedro this Weekend.

Well I look forward to it. I also would really like to get a round in with you soon. It has been too long. I will try to get up to sedro sometime in Jan. or early feb. Take care.
