I'm considering a move to Yakima and I'm really stressing that I can't find a course within a two hours drive.
What's the deal with Yakima?

Have you checked the DG map? There are courses in Wenatchee, Moses Lake, The Tri-Cities, and even Pendleton. I live in Pendleton and it takes me two hours (Well according to Google 2hrs 9mins) to get to Yakima.

Tri-cities would be your best bet. ~1.5 hours from Yakima.

90 minutes! That sucks. I play everyday. Washington/Oregon has such a thriving disc golf community and Yakima has 80,000 residents with 200,000 in the metro and no disc golf! This might really affect my decision to move.

You know you could always get a course put in if you do move there. I’m sure there are local business that would sponsor a hole or holes. The Rotary Club, Kawinas, and other service orgs are also a place to look for grants a such.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some folks in the Tri-Cities that'd be happy to help in getting a course installed. Not to mention, some college kids in Ellensburg that'd be interested in seeing some disc golf in the area.

I agree, I had 18 holes put in at my current hometown (Las Cruces, NM) thanks to the university. Guess I'll have to get down and dirty and start selling DG upon my move.

The 1999 PDGA Course Directory shows a 9-hole course in Yakima at Sarg Hubbard Park. The contact was someone named Markham Reed. What happened? I know I played it on the way to a tournament at Kennewick. In fact, I was demonstrating how to throw one of the holes to some non-players sitting on a bench and threw an ace!

It's also listed in the 2000 Directory but not in the 2006 Directory so I'm not sure when it was pulled. I can't find my copies between 2002 and 2005.

I don't think the maps should show "dead" courses unless there's reason to believe they may appear again in the future.

The Yakima course was pulled around 2000-2001. They are installing a course in Grandview, WA which is less than 20-30 minutes from Yakima if im not wrong. Stafford Park I believe is the name. Im not totally positive thats the right name let me see what I can find.

Yup, the guy who runs the http://www.stimpiridge.com/ Pro shop and course (Nate Sexton sponsor) went to Grandview to map out a course. I don't know when it will be installed, but you could probably shoot him an e-mail or call to find out.

I would just move to walla walla... :) 1 hour away from tri-cities and the new 2-rivers course near finley. Of course you have Fort Walla Walla :) Hmmm seems like a no brainer to me. :)

Well, that seems easier said than done, being that the job I'm being offered is in Yakima, not Walla Walla.
Good to hear about Grandview, that certainly helps.

technicalities...and details.... :) To be truthful a day trip to tri-cities would be worth it though. :) Better yet a day trip to walla walla :) Guess I am a tad biased :)

Hey kat, im from the area, or was. I live in shoreline now, but Ive been back to the other side of the mountains recently and talked with the manager for sportsman state park. He said he was interested in a course being put in there. Im working on a presentation for the man, so he can show it to his bosses and pitch the idea for us. He also said there was 30 acres of unused land adjacent to the park that might be suitable. When are you planning on moving over the hills? What for? My names Jesse. Hit me up and keep in touch. Im over there quite a bit and it would be nice to have others interested in the sport to go over a few things with. Hit me up later. Jesse

If you can't spend the day playing DG, though, you could wile away the hours munching on fruitlets and tartlets and cotlets. If you're not sure what those are, consider yourself lucky. :)

Ignorant you say? Like how far is it from Cashmere to Yakima? or from Kashmir to Nirvana?

I'm (orginally)from Yakima and I had to wonder the same thing when my husband and I went there last month. We went up to Stehekin so we got to play the course at the park in Wenatchee but when we went back through Yakima to visit relatives on the way home we could not find a course until we came back through the gorge.
Being from Yakima I know they can sometimes be lame about new things but really...still no decent place to play? Very sad indeed. And the person who posted that Grandview was 20-30 minutes away was not correct. Grandview is about 45 and very flat so I would wonder if it would be worth the drive. The next closest is Tri-Cities which is another half hour past Grandview. After that you are looking at a good two hour drive for another course.
You would be our hero if you could get a course open there. Sportsman's park would be okay, or Eschbach park could be good for it too. It would be nice to see one out towards the Naches area so that I would be cool enough to play at in the summer time.

Wow. Markham Reed was an Albuquerque pro years ago. Wonder if he made the move up North.

Hey Kat, you still thinking on moving to Yakima? Ive talked to the manager at one of the state parks about installing a disc golf course there. He was agreeable with the idea and wanted some more information about disc golf in general. Wanted to hit you up and see if you actually moved there or not. Hit me back, my names Jesse.
