Hey all, I have this scheme I'd like to put out there and see what kind of response I get. After playing Crystal for the first time two weeks ago, and for the second time a couple days ago, I feel like I could never tire of playing this course, and it really occurs to me what a unique disc golf experience it is -- there's nothing else like it anywhere close to Seattle (save for maybe Thousand Trails in Leavenworth, but assume that would be a more difficult carpool to arrange). Still, Crystal Mtn. isn't that close to Seattle, and it seems unlikely that anyone would want to drive there alone from the greater Seattle-Tacoma area. So anyway, the idea is this:
From now until at least the 2nd week of September, I will be posting the times I'd be available for a trip down to Crystal during the upcoming week. I invite and encourage people to reply in this thread with any/all days they would be able to make the for that individual week. I will take everyone's suggestions into account, maybe post a summary of everyone's availability, and then I will choose what I deem to be the best day to make a carpool on one of the days I can make the trip. I will proceed to take full responsibility to organize the carpool, including working out pick-up locations & times. Now granted, the starting point here is me saying what days I'm available, but this is why I want people to post their own availability publicly, so that if there are a few people who want to go on a day when I can't, this thread can still serve as a way for them to coordinate a carpool amongst themselves.
During these hot summer months, I would suggest the carpool leaving the Seattle area around 7:30-8 to allow time for everyone to rendezvous and still be able to get started no later than 10:30-11. It takes 2 hours driving straight there from Seattle, and can take nearly 4 hours to play a round with a foursome. I suggest leaving as early as we resonably can so that we get the uphill hiking portion of the round done before the hottest part of the day, and also because some of the days that I'm "available" I still have to be back in Seattle to work at 6 PM. If we have enough time after the round, the Snorting Elk lodge at the base serves some tasty brews, and there's a restaurant upstairs.
I expect my availability to be roughly the same for the next month, with only one weekend free, unfortunately (that's 8/22 & 23. I'll either be playing in tournaments or going to Bumbershoot each of the other weekends). That having been said, here's the first list of times when I could make the trip, for the week 8/10-16:
Tue 8/11
Thu 8/13
Fri 8/14
When can YOU go?
I really hope to get some response from this. Anyone who has played Crystal before knows what a challenging treat it is, and anyone who's played any other mountain courses knows how fun it is to throw mid-ranges and putters 600 feet, or to watch your watch your disc turn over unexpectedly and sail into another time zone. :jumpspin: Come on, Come all, to the Crystal Mtn weekly carpool!
