What does everyone think the worst disc still in production is?
Sam

Starts with a D and ends with a T and rhymes with Schmishpraft. That's right... all you Schmishpraft throwers heard me. I said it. That's right.

Can you say Quest ______!
Sam

Just so it is clear... I was joking. 3 of my 13 aces have come on Schmishpraft discs - two on the Glide and one on the Drone. I like them... just figured out how to make my Roc and Gator do the exact same things and they are much prettier discs.

Hands down it has to be the Quarter K. I have never seen a disc warp the way these do as a result of hitting a tree. Not on the rim like you would expect but the flight plate itself would warp like it was sitting out in the sun too long.

I had to think about this one a bit, as it seems even the least popular discs have some redeeming quality. Like the Quarter K Sam mentioned, I've never thrown one, but I understood that up until that first tree hit, they fly far.
Out of all the discs I've thrown though, I'd have to say the Aerobie Sharpshooter was the worst. Ridiculously overstable, short, uncomfortable in the hand, blah stamp, and all are in an almost made-to-be-lost brownish gold color. Pretty much, a round, plastic turd. Hey, it even floats!

my vote would be the 10 meter brick. I don't know why the hell I ever bought one! Thank God I found somebody even stupider than me to trade it off to!
Someone said Lightning. If your are at all interested in Lightning, collectible discs, or Airplanes then check out:

Although Lightning has some tremendously bad discs as well...

Here's some flamebait - those quarter K's kinda sucked as soon as you hit something with them - including the ground, flat. I have a very similar opinion of the R-Pro plastic - flies long, but like DX and Pro plastic it works in so fast that after a few rounds in heat like this, whee, you've got (yet another) roller disc!

My vote is for the Monarch, although I agree Aerobie, Lightning, and 10M brick are junk.
I just never saw the point of groove on the "Groove" and "Monarch".
Just get a Roadrunner and a Wraith.

I just never saw the point of groove on the "Groove" and "Monarch".
If I have to venture a guess, I believe that the "groove" on the edge of these discs is modeled after a supercritical airfoil, which provides airplanes with much greater wing performance, less drag, and greater stability at high speeds.
"The Wheel" is obviously the worst disc in production. At least the discs that other people are mentioning here could be of use to someone. They may not work well, or they might work much like other discs, but at least they have some semblance of working. "The Wheel" is a novelty that is only bought because it looks funny--the thing doesn't even come close to doing what it is supposed to do, and can't be used for any other type of shot. "The Wheel" is to disc golf what "ball in a cup" is to children's toys.

"The Wheel" or the "Turbo Putter." It's a toss up. Does that company make any non-gimmick discs?

the aerobie "epic" is a very strange disc and i would say it is one of the worst that i have thrown, yet i have seen other people throw it well. if anyone ever sees any of these, they should take the chance to throw it once or twice. its flight path will blow your mind

I vote for the epic, its the one disc i can't get out of my head for "odd-ball"... Found one a few years back when I was a mere newb. I was always confused why the heck anyone would throw this, let alone make it...

Epic's are fun, you are high! I did launch a coulple 450+ thumbers with them back when I actually played around with them. Reliable? Not so much but they did serve a purpose and did perform.

I would have to say the polecat. Maybe I did not like it because it only weighed 145. I can't handle any wind, can't throw it more than 30 feet, and it's too floppy.
Brian

I would have to say the 10M brick is about as worthless a piece of junk as you will ever have the displeasure of using. But I also found a couple Wham-O disc golf discs and they sucked super bad also. The difference is they Wham-O discs were standard driver type discs and I think they were trying not to suck. Which makes it even more pathetic.
As far as quest discs go ..
I have a Scorcher and they go pretty well. I putt with a Quest odyssey and I have a T-bone I am testing out. I used to have a raging inferno ultralight and it was more overstable than any disc I had ever seen. I lost it. Some Quest discs are actually good discs. The DOuble D is a good disc also.

Is it true that the Double-D floats? I heard once that they all did, then read somewhere else that they only floated in light weights, and I couldn't find any light weights.

Worst disc compared to the hype it created prerelease has to be the quarter k. I was so excited about this disc when it was being promoted and tested. Nothing but praise was said about the disc and when I bought one it was awesome for the first 5 throws. Then it was crap, hyzer flip roll, uncontrolable for sure. Maybe not the worst disc in production but the worst disc for living up to expectations.

i vote for the epic also. i have thrown it a few times and i never knew what it was going to do while in the air.

OK - lots of votes for the Epic, Quarter K, and anything by Lightning or Quest. But I'd love to hear what people think the worst Discraft and Innova discs are ("None of them" and "all of them" are not acceptable answers).
If that's too hard, perhaps we could rephrase the question to "What is the most over-rated disc by Innova or Discraft?".

for innova, i would have to say the monarch, i threw it , still do throw it for fun, but it just dosent seem to do what it was hyped to do consistently...

For Innova, I think the Groove and Xcalibur are two discs that didn't live up to their hype. As far as overrated Innova discs go, its gotta be the Roc. Bleh.
As far as Discraft goes, the Challenger is overrated. In fact, though I like a number of Discraft drivers and mid-ranges, I have never found a putter of theirs that I like. Regarding an over-hyped for Discraft, I did not find the Force to live up to its hype.
The Monarch still holds a spot in my bag, though I am finding I can get a flight similar to it with a lighter Avenger SS.

I'll second that...one throw with my R-Pro Boss and it was garbage after hitting some rocks. The throw itself was kinda garbage too.

I'd felt similarly about the Monarch before, but from a couple recommendations from friends, I got one of the CFR Star Monarchs with some scrip at the Fernburner. The champ Monarch I found to really fly when you threw it just right, but it was really touchy--either ended up too stable or not enough. The star, for whatever reason, seems to perform much more consistently. I was throwing it yesterday a bunch, and the issue I kept having was that I kept throwing it too long and too straight.
As for the worst discs by the big 2...hmm. I never really liked the Skeeter, though it's probably not a bad beginner disc. And though I've never thrown a Spectra, I'm not sure if I've ever heard anyone say a positive thing about them. The Buzzz GT is pretty worthless too, IMO.

I love my Champ Monarch for its predictable turnover. I never thought of it as a distance disc, but one day with a hard left to right crosswind on one, I hyzered it just a bit and damn near got the skip ace. I never get a drive to the hole on one, like old Tim there.

August 3rd, 2009, 09:08 AM
I think for me it's the groove and the Monarch for Innova, I just have never figured out how to throw either one consistantly after many trips in the field.
For Discraft the Banger GT ... now that I think about it I just don't like the top of this disc and I don't like the "groove" of the Groove and Monarch from Innova.
I like simple discs, no wierd thumb grips or the turbo putt with the swirl garbage, You know why not just throw with a Teebird or an Avenger? A good old fashioned disc that works how it's supposed too. A Valkyrie never needed any of this crap to set a world record...

the "Dimple".... Hands down.. :rolleyes2:
So hard that it would break if you hit ANYTHING at a high speed......
So understable that it was nearly impossible to throw with any kind of accuracy......

Light weight Double D's are rare, but they are out there.
And I've never ever seen 'em sink, but with all the new plastics nowadays, I never say never no more or less. :pirate:

For Discraft, I would say any of the putters and the Buzz. What a crappy disc. If I wanted a Buzz, I would just get a Roc. :D
For Innova, I would have to say the Birdie just because it seems more like a caricature of a disc than a real disc.

You can't just say "Bleh" and leave it at that. Explain yourself, man! Why do you think the Roc is over-rated?
I've got two that I throw regularly. A DX/Glow that is beat to Sh**. It flies very straight for a predictable distance. If I throw it anny, it annies. If I throw it hyzer, it hyzers. The other one is a KC Pro Roc. Predictably stable, I know exactly how far it is going to go and when it is going to fade. In other words, it they do exactly what I tell them to. What more do you want from a disc? A happy ending?

Quest does have bad discs, a slightly higher 'bad to good ratio' than other companies, but they also are not afraid to experiment and try things that other companies are too afraid to do. Because of it, they've come out with some of my favorite discs, the T-Bone (dimple tech), the Double D (dimple tech - wider wing than a Boss), the Raging Inferno (a beat in one is a beaut), the Raging Inferno DT version, and the Backbone midrange (rounded edges).
They experiment with their plastic too, and they've come out with some very nice mixes. And since they're less expensive you get more bang for your buck.
With all that said, I agree with the people who say the worst disc in production is "The Wheel".

Ok. I do not like the feel of the Rocs that I have thrown. Maybe it was because it was a rare San Antonio Roc. Or maybe it was the Ranco Relaxo Roc. Or maybe it was the one Roc that was done on the 32nd of Smarch, at night, and was dark, dark, dark, dark, dark, REALLY dark blue. I just don't remember.
Or, I don't like the way they feel or fly for me. And, the comment was partially made to poke the (Sam) bear. :wink2: Which, I would like to point out, worked. Though Tim did accurately amend Sam's statement.

I am slightly saddened by the fact someone brought up the Xcalibur as an overrated disc. What didn't you like about it? To overstable? Have problems controlling it? Next to a Teebird I would place this is one of the most consistent disc in my bag. (I do have 2 champ and one eco in it)

Um, that it doesn't work for me. Same with the Roc. Same with the Reaper and the Xtreme (just so I don't get accused of slamming only Innova discs). I personally found its flight to be of no use to me. That's all. I figure for every person who says that one disc sucks, there is probably at least one person who totally loves it. Regarding the discs from the major manufacturers, I am sure the number is much higher than one.
Scott asked, I answered.

I would concur, with Sam on this one. The Birdie is perhaps one of the most useless Innova discs. I hate the feel of it and because of how deep it was I could never get my hand just right so the flight was always off.
Discraft... hard for me to say because I really don't like any of them very much. but I had a wildcat for a short time and it seemed to serve no purpose whatsoever. if I had 4 extra spots in my bag I still don't think I would put it in there. I do like the Buzzz though.

i have to stand up for Quest. I use the Crossfire putter and i love it, always have loved it! everybody that asks what it is, looks it over and says "that feels really good". but then nobody else uses them except my wife.
worst disc for discraft would be Banger GT for me. the big groove is just wierd for me to grip. and there are other discs that do the exact same thing.
for innova, it would be tie between the archangel, the sonic, and the polecat. the archangle is just useless, why not use a valkyrie or a roadrunner. the only person i have ever seen use a sonic good was Eric E. and he was really good with it. the polecat is just weird. it was one of my first discs and it was difficult to use. still is.

Absolutely love this as a catch disc. For short distances, it is easy to throw. Being so soft, it is very easy to catch. However, I have never thrown a golf shot with one. :nono:

Putters like this are a Lake Stevens favorite because of the crappy baskets and nasty roll aways. All over the course you see Chings, Blowflys, Gateway putters and any other soft/gummy type of thing that sticks in the "designer pro" baskets or hits the ground and stays.
