I am really wondering why I haven't been overly bombarded with calls and emails about the Eugene Celbration. It's been kind of relaxing. :)

Well folks, I just wanted to let everyone to know that registration is live!!!!

Please note that the pools will probably be changed but I will let you know as soon as it does.

Any questions? Take care and I will try to keep the list updated as much as possible.

I cant wait to play this event, probably next year though. my only 2 rounds at Dexter were +2 and even. The course played really easy for me, and I am a very shitty am at that, hahaha.

gosh that intermediate division is the smallest I have ever seen in Oregon in a long time... Makes me wanna move up, but there too many bullies in the ADV division... There a trophy for first place in int? If there is, i'm fighting for that.. if not... gosh i'm in a bind... 9 players kinda sucks...

Hello eveybody. Sorry I haven't been on here lately but I have been very busy lately.

For those of you who haven't heard, I broke my arm pretty severely and typing is a nightmare.

I just updated the list and I have one spot left which will probably be filled with an online registration that will be emailed to me tonight.

I can now start working on the pools to make the rounds go as smooth as possibe. I'll be contacting a few people to move into a different division. I have never seen an intermediate group as small as this one and a Pro and Advanced group as large for a long time. Needless to say, the Pro and Advanced will not be playing together. This I know and the rest I have to figure out.

We will be playing 3 rounds at Dexter in the long and short pins both.
Also, for those of you who play poker---there will be a poker tournament on Saturday night. Details to come so bring extra cash.

This took entirely too long for me to type:slapface: so my future posts will be a lot shorter until I get this cast off. Which is the day after the tournament..

Thanks for your patience. Details and finalized schedule to come soon.

I'm always looking for sponsors and volunteers :dancing:

Yeah, I'd keep the 'rowdy' out of the RV park (Dexter Shores). There're mostly weekly/monthly RVers staying there. They do have a quiet tent camping area and it's about a ten minute walk from the DG course.

Camping will be in the trees along the lake shore, but bring water since there isn't any drinkable stuff in the park. There are cement outhouses.

Camping will begin Friday night.

And the lake is suffering from a bit of an algae bloom which is resulting in some nuerotoxins in the water. Not recommended for pets or kids, but I'm guessing a quick rinse after a hot day of DG won't have any lasting effects. (I hope.)

I've stayed in the tent area a few times at the camp ground across the street from the park, they have a tent area that is in the back right of the campground, wasn't being quiet, not roudy loud, but not quiet, could hardly hear the music at the end of the tent area, lady running the place said we were just fine, just don't build to big a fire, they have decent bathrooms with showers, play room with t.v. and pool table,

Last year there were a few trailers staying in the parking lot and plenty of those VW buses taking up the rest of the parking lot. It was a camping frenzy for sure. The rv park is nice either way you do it and the tv is a plus, especially with football on saturday and sunday...

Sure, the whole parking lot will be available for campers. One good thing about the lake's algae bloom is that very few rec boaters are using the boat ramp, so there's lots of blacktop available.

Full hookups are available across the street for $30/night at Dexter Shores.

It looks like the A-pool is carrying a few more players than the B-pool, with A-pool at 86 players and the B-pool at 79 players.

If the numbers stay the same in the pools, are you playing to have more ghost groups in the A-pool or are you going to send out a couple five-somes?

How will the courses be set up this year? Will Saturday be all short with Sunday being all longs? Or are you going to pick an overall good setup and leave it alone for the weekend?

EGDC Poker Payout Table (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Al8fu2YyIwkFdGQ4Q3pKRnIybHByYWVSTWhkSTdVX 2c&hl=en)

Looks like a good stake would be in play if it fills. Of course everyone thinks they will win when signing up so I have marked the areas in pink where your finish in standings may suffer depending on the number of people signed up due to the overlap of the take and number of buy-ins.

So if you poker players come out in force and have at least 20 enter the payout will be good to all that finish. With last cash at least getting their money back for 4 hours of entertainment, and rest assured it will be quality entertainment.

Ther will be ghost groups carefully placed so not to interfere with the flow of play too much. I'm still considering the 5-somes.

After careful consideration----I have decided to do an overall good setup of the pins and leave it for the weekend. This will keep the scores closer throughout the tournament. However; if we need to make up some time, the pins will be moved to short placement after the first round on Sunday. This way all players will play the same layout the same amount of rounds.

I totally missed that post but caught the one after it because I responded to it weird. I was hoping to use the same pins all weekend so that one pool is not playing a much harder setup. With the longs and shorts scenario of years past it always felt like two different courses. The shorts become a bit of a birdy fest as where the longs felt like a parballoza... If we had to choose though I would rather play the longs then the shorts for three rounds!

For all of you coming down for the Celebration this weekend here are a few stats to think about.

First Eugene Celebration/Frisbee Disc Golf Tournament: Sunday October 2, 1988 at Westmoreland Disc Golf Course. Entry fee: $5 for adults, $3 for kids. This tournament was to help raise money for baskets at Westmoreland. Wonderful Dave Battaglia and the City of Eugene ran the event.

There was no tournament in 1989.

Eugene Parks ran the tournament in 90, 91, 92 at Westmoreland as part of the citywide Eugene Celebration party. It included doubles disc golf and foot bag competitions on Saturday. On Sunday the singles disc golf tournament took place. We all thank Dave Battaglia for those great times.

In 1993 the newly formed Eugene Disc Golf Club took over running the Celebration event. Still held at Westmoreland Park, it included doubles on Saturday and Singles on Sunday. This format continued until 1995 when doubles was dropped and both Saturday and Sunday were devoted to single player disc golf. In 1997 the Tournament was split into two locations, Westmoreland and Armitage State Park. Players played two rounds at each course with the field split into two flights. 1997 was the last year the event was held at Westmoreland. In 1998 the tournament was moved to Armitage Park. In 1999 and 2000, Richardson Park at Fern Ridge became the host location. Two days of 27 hole layouts were played. In 2001, with the installation of Dexter Disc Golf Course complete, the Eugene Disc Golf Celebration was moved there. An additional course at Lynx Hollow was played in 2005 and 2006.

Some of the best rounds ever recorded at Dexter have come during the Celebration. Adam Carlson shot a 46 in 2004 and Lane Mason another 46 in 2005. But the lowest Celebration tournament round ever at Dexter is 45 and shot by Erik 'Buck' Smith during the 2002 event. It was his final round of the weekend.

One last thing. Just remember when preparing to tee off on Hole 6 this weekend, you have almost a 30% chance of getting a double bogie. (This is based on 150 recorded rounds from 2001-2003, and is an average of a wide variety of players and abilities, so keep in mind some PDGA divisions may have a better chance than others of achieving this stat.)
Have fun!

I didn't forget Oakway. I choose to erase it Soviet style from the history books.

Dang. I did totally forget about Oakway. Doh'

what an awesome stat. i wonder what the percentages were for 2's and 3's on that hole. i would guess >1% and around 10% respectively.

i friggin' love hole 6. i just hope it loves me back this weekend. http://www.panicfreaks.org/images/smilies/voodoo.gif

Good article, but you ever notice that every article about DG HAS to include a complete tutorial? Seriously, the only thing that really changes in these things is the town where the paper is published and the names of the golfers mentioned. Other than that it's like they pull the info from an internet school paper outlet. And all I was hoping for was first day results....

Eugene Celebration was a blast. Of course like everyone else I wish my scores were lower but I did manage to shave a stroke per round.

Thanks to the EDGC and all involved in putting on the event. Well done! :kissflowers:

I had a lot fun playing with everyone on my card. Sorry you were stuck with us Luke but it was fun for sure. Highlight of the weekend for me though was getting the opportunity to spend two rounds with Jub.

Now to try and recover from the weekend and get ready to head up to Oly at the end of the month to raise some $$$$$ to send Chandler to USDGC.

Here are some results, you and I got 2nd place for doubles on friday. LOL... oh yeah, I won my first PDGA tournament whooo whooo.... yeah so, it was intermediate but the ending was way cool, parking that uphill teeshot to the practice basket in the sudden death playoff... if I had lost, i prob still be driving home...

I had a good time, very relaxing, everyone was so quiet at night, and the lessons from Sexton were good, mostly adjustment tips and strategy concepts, like sidearming hole 10, before I would have never tried it, but worked perfect all 3 rounds. My only real big blooper was a 6 on hole 7 in the 2nd round, my putting was just awesome, which I'll have to give credit to the current Deaf national champ for that part of my game, and the practicing 20 mins every night heh... my fiance now can understand why i must practice heh..

There were a few fun highlights for me:
- Will's shirt design (awesome! we need more like that)
- McGruber rolling it almost all the way to 18 for the birdie putt in the 3rd round
- listening to McGruber's turkey calls
- the last round was on of the most insanely bipolar and funniest rounds of my life
- trying not to break my neck playing glow golf in the woods without a light

Congrats to Leland! Wish I could have watched it.

Should Treelove really be banned from bag tags? I don't think so.

What happened to his tag last year was a freak accident. I have seen small, very intense fires break out in driveways a lot, actually. That this one only consumed PART of the tag only shows that Gawain might have considered a career in fire safety rather than IT. The strap was saved as was the Stumptown logo (for the most part). He should be commended for his bravery for rushing into the fire and saving as much of the tag as he did.

Come on, Jordan... don't be a hater. :)

For the record, my offer to help get the tags distributed and enter round data was/is genuine. It had nothing to do with the tag I won at the event (I sure don't deserve the #1 tag). In fact, I didn't know what tag I was getting until reading Jordan's post. I had to leave Eugene as soon as my round was over, so I was unable to help get tags sorted out on Sunday. Jordan told me that he didn't want to get stuck taking care of them. I am just trying to help where I can.

I was being facetious with the "Why" posts. I felt the need to poke at Snap for inserting himself into the conversation even though he didn't help with tags at the event, nor does he have a tag.

Turns out this was a PDGA mistake... their online registration service didn't send us our check in a timely fashion and so we could not pay the PDGA our tournament fees. Seems to me that the PDGA should have eaten the bullet on this one and posted our results, instead of making the local club look bad. I know that the online reg. service is a seperate entity but as it is on the PDGA website I feel like they should stand behind that product.

Please be sweet and nice to Rebecca she really does a lot for disc golf in Eugene.

Well I'm glad to hear that. A little communication goes a LONG way. I sent emails to everyone I could think of, including all EDGC officers, asked around in person, read this and other threads here and never heard any explanation. So my apologies if my criticism of our club is taken the wrong way, but why was this a secret? And if it wasn't a secret, why didn't anyone just say what was up? I'm a big EDGC supporter and one of Rebecca's biggest fans. This could have all been a non-issue for several months with a one-line communication in any one of several venues.

Or I could get my lazy ass to a club meeting. :whistler::kissflowers:
